FYI, Joe Bonsall is no longer touring with them due to an illness, and Duane Allen's wife passed away 2 or 3 weeks ago. They are on their good bye tour after 50yrs.
Oh I'm so sad to hear about Dian's wife. I knew about Joe no longer touring.
@@christyeckert3115 I guess she had been sick for a while and in hospital.
That's so sad, will be praying for the family. I'm hoping to catch them on their final tour, I use to listen to them with my grandma when I was younger. She has now since passed on.
This is such a fun one. I assume that you did watch the complete outro and learn that this was arranged by Geoff Castellucci. I enjoy the interplay between the two groups. And, of course, Adam's amazing beatboxing.
A huge statement has been reinforced numerous times over the last half dozen years when notorious artists have collaborated with Home Free in singing legacy hits and in several cases have reached out to Home Free. Home Free has shown extraordinary respect to these artists to the point there is mutual respect and admiration that is very visible both ways. Home Free is a very humble group of guys who know how to pay their respects as they showcase these well-respected and well-known artists. Just wow, and we are the benefactors of this wonderful trust as they deliberately give each other and us a chance to enjoy once again a freshness to the decades that gone on before us with a wonderful tribute. Home Free is showing the industry a strong core value of High Regard, Strong Consideration, Attentiveness, High Opinion, and Due Regard for those who have set the stage for the music we enjoy today.
Thank You Home Free, for your leadership by action that we all admire and appreciate doing things the right way!!!!!❣
Well said! Let us hope the industry will follow HF’s lead and revitalize itself.
The Boba Fett Sonic bomb is Adam - he does that for jets flying by in some American songs.
Great reaction!! The Oak Ridge Boys are Mentors to Home Free.Home Free and The Oak Ridge Boys sang another song together with Jeffery East called Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem.
The Oak Ridge Boys are a Country/Gospel group started in 1943 in Oak Ridge Tennessee with the name Oak Ridge Quartet became popular Southern Gospel Singers in the 1950’s.Their group name changed to The Oak Ridge Boys in the 1960’s they sang gospel till the 1970’s then changed to country/gospel.They released Elvira in 1981
Here’s a list of the Oak Ridge Boys
Duane Allen (lead singer) sitting next Rob
Joe Bonsall ( Tenor) next to Austin
William Lee Golden (Baritone) White long beard
Richard Sterban (Bass) Sang as bass for Elvis for 2 yrs 1971/1972
Love Star of Bethlehem, especially when Austin goes full gospel impromptu and the guys totally get into it.
Can’t tell you how many levels of love and happiness that this video gives me I’m so glad you had a chance to finally react
This is one of my favorites of theirs and I know part of it is because it’s Geoff’s arrangement 😅
You’re right that Geoff did the arrangement for VP but restructured it for Home Free because they sang it with actual OR boys.
@@LaurieRein It’s the basics of what Geoff did that was kept that is what I love.
The Home Free drop that's coming will blow your mind.
When will the general public get to see the new one?
I love the good-natured competition vibe: The side eye shared between the fellas singing the same voice parts, and Rob comparing his beard length to William Lee Golden. This collaboration made me happy in so many ways. Grandma was a HUGE fan of the Oak Ridge Boys and they totally won me over when they released Elvira in 1981. Seeing the love Home Free has for them, all the joy in the performance, and a Geoff Castellucci arrangement on top of everything else!?!? This is one of my all-time favorite videos! Congrats on your three year anniversary!
fun bit in the description: "Arr by Tim Foust, Geoff Castellucci and VoicePlay"
The Oaks weren't an accapella group but their harmonies are what made (makes) them awesome. They used to do the Star Spangled Banner accapella at the occasional sporting event.
There have been various fourpart harmony country groups, such as the Oaks and the Statlers, and while they used backing instruments that were acapella-adjacent and left a niche that Home Free has stepped into.
This is a great collaboration between Home Free & The Oak Ridge Boys. "Elvira" was a huge hit for The Oakridge Boys in 1981. You can see the great respect these 2 groups have for each other. The Oakridge Boys are mentors to Home Free & it is like they are passing the baton to a younger version of themselves. They have performed together on the Grand Ole Opry. Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is the best in the business. He can simulate drums & any other sounds perfectly. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are so talented yet very humble guys.
I grew up listening to The Oaks with my grandmother, so this Home Free collab makes me so happy! At the end, Home Free thanks Geoff Castellucci for his help with the arrangement. I mean who wouldn't want a Geoff arrangement. :) And yes, my fave part is all the sections/harmonies between The Oaks and their vocal range counterparts in Home Free. Just delightful!
In some of Austin’s earlier solo videos, you can see that t-shirt has been framed and is hanging on the wall. I’m glad you had so much fun with it! It’s pretty much impossible to watch/listen and not smile.
😂 that was a great reaction!! 🥰🥰🥰 itty-bitty Austin 😅
First of all, Chris Rupp is in this video, so it is even older than you think it is. ORB does perform with a backup band, but they sing a lot of a capella. The four members are: Joe Bonsall (tenor), Duane Allen (lead), William Lee Golden (baritone) and Richard Sterban (bass).
The Oak Ridge Boys do not typically perform a cappella. However they have performed so many decades as a 4 part quartet I am positive if all the power went out and their band wasn’t plugged in they would never miss a note. I saw them in concert this past fall and they did an awesome concert.
LOL! Its just like your Boys 2 Men, End of the Road reaction. I love it when you stop after 5 seconds.😂😂😂 You crack me up, dude!
The oak ridge boys been doing this for a long time. They are legends in country. This is one of their famous & most popular songs, everyone asks for it all the time. I love them.❤
This song live is such a party, no?
Last year was my first ever Home Free concert and I was kind of nervous to go there. As soon as they started this song I knew I was going to have one heck of a good time.
As for the music video... it's one of my favorites, in terms of video it's probably my favorite, in terms of songs... probably second place after Try Everything. I just love the dynamic between Home Free and the Oak Ridge Boys, you can feel the mutual respect between them, and the bonding between them seems to be oozing from the screen. It actually gets me a bit emotional to watch it sometimes, but only in the best and fuzziest feeling possible. And well- I mean, this pretty much goes without saying because we all have ears, but... they sound friggin' amazing together.
HF does sometimes join them on the road- the groups are friends
They are fabulous and generous collaborators.
Feels like the torch was being passed.
Especially
Joe and Austin
Duane and Rob
Richard and Tim
This is such a fun version of their song.
I LOVED this one!! I grew up listening to oakridge boys (especially Elvira) with my dad, “magic grandpa”! ❤
Elvira is probably one of my 6 year olds favorite songs from Home Free. And I love their collab for Christmas “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” its probably one of my favorite songs by Home Free
For the algorythm, for the harmonies
I had heard the Oak Ridge Boys sing Elvira when I was a kid and I remember loving it, this video never fails to make me smile and I can't help singing along with it.
Richard Steurban, bass for the Oak Ridge Boys had another gig in the early 70's before he joined ORB. He sang with the Stamps Quartet..who sang backup for Elvis from the 70 to 77 when Elvis passed away. Richard was only with them for a year or so before he joined The Oak Ridge Boys.
I love how you get legitimately into the songs as well as analyze them while you react! I know you are currently doing reactions to epic the musical and I think you would absolutely love The death note musical! Great video!
glad you enjoyed, this is such a special on from their back catalogue!
This was so delightful! Congrats on 3 years of TH-cam!
You made my day reacting to this!! Such a great collaboration and so much fun! Great reaction ❤
PS…that was a GEOFF arrangement…❤️🔥
I think this is one of my favorite reactions to this song. 👏🏻
What a great reaction. Loved every minute of it. Congratulations on your 3 year anniversary!!! I have totally enjoyed this journey with you. I got to be with you for the entire trip. Thanks so much Mortius.
The Oak Ridge Boys started out as a gospel quartet. When I was a kid, my Mom used to drag us to every concert they were in within driving distance. At the time, I was too young to appreciate them. Bill Golden, the long bearded dude, was such a clean cut guy back then you wouldn't believe it.
Love the comments from Mason ❤
I just love this collaboration! The Oak Ridge Boys are legendary and the affection & respect between the two groups is so touching. They have another collaboration with the Oaks & Jeffrey East on "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" that's jaw-dropping. They've also appeared together at the Grand Ol' Opry. Thanks for playing this & your comments.
I didn't realise you hadn't reacted to this before great reaction
I have heard that Home Free created their own version of Elvira that is very different from the version they did with the Oak Ridge Boys
Congratulations on 3 years. Always here for Home Free and Marc Martel and maybe some Jai McDowall.
One of my favorite Home Free collaborations!!❤
Agreed!!
I love this one, but your reaction took it over the top!!!
This video certainly have a good vibe to it.❤
This one is loads of fun! Better late than never, Mortius! The ORB’s and Home Free became fast friends with this video. Home Free even opened and performed with the guys at one of their stadium shows years ago. The also told Home Free that they reminded them of themselves when they were younger. Home Free has recorded a cover of “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” with the ORB’s back when they live streamed their Christmas special in 2020. The Oak Ridge Boys were guests. Also, Jeffrey East performed with both groups on the song.
Finally! Knew you 'd enjoy that!
PURE JOY! Love this video and really enjoy your enthusiasm for such a great moment.
such a great arrangement and they obviously had such fun ❤
Was lucky to see the Oak Ridge Boys in concert like 40 years ago. Lol They still look and sound the same with some grey is all. Loved your reaction … exactly how I felt watching the first time. Awesome! Haha.
Happy Third Anniversary, Mortius!🥳 I hope your conference is even more fun than you were anticipating when you recorded this.
It absolutely 100% was!
So good and so much fun. They really like each other. Tim has a lot of fun with this song during concerts inviting the audience to participate while he goes really low. So cute to see them all get along and really enjoy each other. Good one M!!!😄
Loving the glasses ❤
I love how Home Free and The Oak Ridge Boys show respect to each other. They also did Little Star of Bethlehem together with Jeffrey East it was amazing. Thanks for your fantastic and fun reaction
The bass players where just having a bass-off :))
oak ridge boys arent accapella but they are very much into minimal instrumentation
I was most hoping to see your reaction at learning Geoff arranged this…., but it was a good reaction.
I'm so surprised this is the first time you watched this one! Its SO good! Glad you loved it!
Geoff Castellucci arranged this for Home Free.
This one is ine of my favorites
Your heart was so warm because it was on fire for "Elvira" (as sung by Home Free and the Oak Ridge Boys:)
One of my favorite things about this music video is that you can see how much fun ALL of them are having.
#HOMEFREE....so fun, so good!
Not sure if you can find it here on TH-cam, but if you ever want to support an independent artist who is both incredibly talented, and extremely humble, my suggestion to you is the artist RYLAND. His style is a mix of Indie \ Alt- pop vibes. His song Don't Fall in Love with Me is my personal favorite. If you can't find it here on TH-cam, it's available to stream on Spotify. Great reaction to another Home Free bop! Much love to you man!😁💖
I love that Home Free decided to borrow (with permission) this arrangement after watching Voiceplay do it so many times on the Sing Off Tour 🤣 You should check out a live recording of Voiceplay’s rendition sometime, it is appropriately ridiculous 😁
I was so surprised you hadn’t reacted to this yet, but it was great fun to see! And having watched you almost 3 years, congratulations! I’ll be looking forward to more! ❤️🎶
I am rather new to your channel Mortius maybe a little less than a year. I love all your Epic Musical, Bass Gang, Home Free and Voiceplay reactions. This is one my fav home free song and I was shocked that you didn’t react to it!! I’m so excited to watch this!!
Oh, Mortius, that was a great reaction!! Love your joy and enthusiasm, together with all your clever comments!! ❤
This song rocks and I love how all these guys just blend so well. Love everyone of these guys.❤️❤️❤️❤️
You always make me smile and laugh
Love your enthusiasm, so glad you enjoyed it. Please watch Home Free and Oak Ridge Boys singing Beautiful Star of Bethlehem.
This really gives me the sense of "Home Free Past" meeting "Oak Ridge Boys future".
The ORB's bass, Richard Sterban, sang bass for Elvis Presley early in his career. Home Free definitely collaborated with true country legends on this song--and I LOVE this collaboration❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
#HomeFree #OakRidgeBoys
I love this colab. Im a huge fan of the Oak ridge boys and Home Free.
ORB are members of both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Absolute Legends.
Been a while since you reacted to home free. By the way do you happen to know that Austin is leaving?
Thank you so much Mortius! Loved your enthusiasm! Happy Anniversary! Here's to many more years of enjoying what you do and doing what you enjoy!
I’ve been watching your Home Free reactions for a long time now and I always love them! I don’t recall if you have reacted to Home Free with Kenny Rodgers doing Children Go Where I send Thee and if not it is a must watch, including the message at the end. Thank you for all of your fun reactions! #HomeFree
Congratulations on your 3 year anniversary. I've enjoyed watching you develop your skills as a reactor over that time. Hope you had a great conference. Btw, Home Free will soon be releasing a new epic collBoration. It will be amazing as well I'm sure.
Oak Ridges' bass used to sing backup for ELVIS!! ❤❤
that sound from Adam you could not identify close to the end was the sound of lighting a match. You know? Fire!😉
Happy three year anniversary! 🥳
I had soo much fun watching this reaction! Been waiting for it the whole time. 😄 I love this song and the video to pieces. The atmosphere and the harmony between the to groups are just so wholesome. Every time you react to a video that I love it's like I can watch/listen to it for the first time again with the added bonus of your joy and the qualified input that you provide. I love to see that you're just as happy as I am while listening to the song/watching the video. And even though I heard some songs many times, oftentimes you point out details I never consciously noticed.
Keep up the good work! :)
I love this country a capella collab, and think it really works. The finished product is another great Home Free tune. And I agree with you about ads- I hope the right people will make $$ from them, but when they cut off someone’s part it’s super irksome.
I fell in love with Bass singers thanks to the Oak Ridge Boys. Elvira was one of my favorite songs as a child.
Great one
2 legends!!!
Awesome. They are for me the young The Oak Ridge Boys and the old Home Free! I love it!❤
Awesome that you were able to get to do it!
I needed this today. I haven't laughed for awhile. Thank you!
If you get the chance to see the ORB live take it. They are retiring after 50 years. They are country legends. They also sing gospel. Love your reaction.❤
You should hear the oak ridge boys in their prime. They are all in their 70's here. They are from Oak Ridge Tennessee (about 20 miles from where I grew up)
Here's to three more years of Home Free with you. YAY!!!!!
The Oak Ridge Boys sing with a band, but like a lot of early country groups they came up in the southern gospel tradition. Typically, southern gospel is sung with four or five parts and as a lot of the groups sang in churches with only a few instruments (guitar and piano, maybe a banjo or mandolin) the style developed with strong harmonies. So strong, they could easily sing acapella if needed. In fact, I believe Austin's father was a member of such a group. Tim's mother's church (as noted in the credits on "God Blessed Texas") is a Church of Christ. I don't know for sure, but some Churches of Christ are non-instrumentalist. They both may have grown up in a musical tradition that was either acapella or close to it.
I am guessing the acapella arrangement came very naturally to the Oak Ridge Boys.
Home Free did great with this song Elvira with Oak Ridge Boys. I love Home Free. They are the best group.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Took a while for you to hit this one, but I enjoyed your reaction more than any I have watched!
I’d say that the end sound by Adam sounds like someone opening a soda can.
Richard Sterban , the bass for the Oaks , sang backup for Elvis before he joined the group ... love the way he competes with Tim ! The Oak Ridge Boys are country legends ... they sang at President George Bush Sr.'s funeral at his request . Quite the collab between the two great groups !
Happy Anniversary Mortius!
Thanks Mortius 😊
🤠❤#HomeFree. Wonderful reaction.
Great reaction!! Happy anniversary!
William Goldman, white beard, is a baritone's baritone! Emotion, rich, full, not operatic but gorgeous. Try to find Battle Hymn of the Republic on Kentucky or Tennesse public TV channel. I think his son is on it, wonderful bass!
The Oak Ridge Boys (this lineup) have been recording and touring for 50 years. Joe Bonsall, the high tenor, just retired from the road this past winter due to medical concerns. Geoff Castellucci of Voice Play did the arrangement for this version of the song. The Oaks deserve their own reaction from you and I will leave a link to a live performance of "I Guess it Never Hurts to Hurt Sometimes". It was recorded in the late 80s but the audio and video quality is excellent even from that long ago. th-cam.com/video/Qalz3lShyl8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FppezDZ_hbVGXkkH
Great reaction.. 😊
