Take special note of the wording on the callout verse. It's not saying "Get out; there's no place for you here and there never will be." It's saying "You're hurt and afraid. You must change for the better, friend, because you can't keep being like this. We want to help you." Hate cannot defeat hate; only love can defeat hate.
I have made it to 3 Home Free concerts in the past 15 months. They have sung this at all 3 concerts and the audience joined in enthusiastically at each concert.
I love how Home Free is willing to use their platform and celebrity to speak out on real issues. Yet one more reason to respect this amazing group! ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
An amazing group of men who aren't afraid to say what they believe in. This made me cry the first time. I'm so glad that you were letting your emotions show, too. Thank you.
I am so proud of Home Free for doing this! It just makes me love them even more than I already do if that’s possible! Thank you for a very heartfelt reaction, it brought me to tears the first time I saw this video because as a 68 year old it pains me deeply to see my Country that I love being torn apart. Thank you Home Free for saying what needed to be said. ❤️
Thank you for this reaction, Mortius. I had to watch your reaction twice because I was too teary-eyed to take it in the first go-round. These are the types of reactions fans truly watch reactors for. When the emotions are just pulled out of you from left field and you just lose yourself in the song and the message, and nothing can be hidden or faked because you are truly moved by what you are witnessing. I am thankful that Home Free has been able to do that for you. I was a fan before I heard them do this song, but man, like you said, my respect for them rose immensely when I finally got around to listening to this song. Tim in particular got a lot of flak and hate for not just this song, but for his outspokenness on this other political/human rights issues as well. And it made me so proud to be his fan and to be a fan of Home Free, knowing that they were "in my corner" so to speak, and they could be heard in places where I couldn't reach, and sent a message that I was too scared to touch on, especially when they just as easily could have swerved around these issues and just continued singing sea shantys and good ole' boy country music. So again, thank you for this reaction, and thank you for sharing this song and talking about it with others and spreading the word on how amazing it is. And a big thank you to Home Free for helping me weed out my friends list of so called HF "fans" that I needn't have wasted any more of my time on.
Thank you so much for your heartfelt reaction. Our boys are always willing to go out on a limb and challenge for things they believe in. From bulling to patriotism, and just being kind to each other. So proud of them.
From "sea shanty but on land" to flipping fascists, racists, and bigots the bird to the wholehearted embrace of this song's message is why we love you , Mortius ❣
The message was, we're calling out your behavior, telling them they can change and we're praying for you, my friend. Not giving them an FU finger, which will just get you more hostility in the long run.
Home Free took a lot of flack from people who basically self-identified as racists, fascists, nihilists, and bigots, and then got mad that HF was calling them racists, fascists, nihilists, and bigots. It was wild. But HF is better off without those fans.
When I see a comment or a song or whatever where someone says, "White people / women / Christians / etc. who do X upset / offend / hurt / etc. me because..." my first response is "Do I do X?" If I don't, then it's not about me. Still worth considering so I can avoid hurting someone, but I don't need to feel defensive. If I do do X, then I need to take some time to reflect. I still don't need to be defensive because this person is talking about a behavior -- not my particular subcategory of human being -- and how it makes them feel. I may conclude they're right and try to do better. I may conclude they're wrong or only partially right, but even then I might consider better communicating the next time I do X. You get the idea. What I *don't* do is assume they're complaining about all white people or women or whatever when they have specifically narrowed the category further than that. There are several categories of people in the song to which I don't belong. If you (in the generic sense, not you specifically) don't identify as both a mother and a father, then why would you think all the other labels are intended for you? The reaction completely mystified me. HF essentially said, "If you're a racist, we're calling you out on your crap," and 5000+ people went, "How dare you call me a racist!" It was utterly unhinged.
This is truly one of my favorite Home Free covers. Absolutely unapologetic and such a meaningful message. The guys did a beautiful job on the vocals as we have all come to expect, but what gets me most is their willingness to stand up for what is right and just. Your reaction mirrors mine, thank you.
What a great message. I am tinted (indonesian blood) and know how it is to be judged and discriminated against on my skin color. I'm not like that at all. But to be honest many of my "kind" are doing exactly the same to the "whites". It doesn't matter if you are white, brown, black, yellow, gay, lesbian, fat, thin, etc. Appreciate and respect each other. Nobody is perfect. It's not an original but with the way Home Free thinks and their personalities it could very well be theirs. Because what good guys they are. And then they sing it so unbelievably. The two incredible low voices of Tim and Chance. The great background vocals and adlibs from Austin and (gospel-) Rob, the harmony is grazy. And Adam with the incredible sounds he makes in combination with the bass just sound fantastic.
I think this song ties in beautifully with "Brothers in Arms." No matter who we are, we all have the right to express ourselves individually because we are granted that right as Americans. We are fools to make war on each other.
In fact I think that the song is saying almost the opposite - that it doesn't matter what country you belong to. Not everything is about America! And Brothers in Arms is far from patriotic - what Mark Knopfler was saying was that we are fools to go to war since *all* humans are our brothers. The song is widely misinterpreted, which I know Mark finds annoying.
Another great message song is Undivided. For some reason that one never got any traction in the reactor realm. Its a great video that everyone should see.
I have always said that Home Free gives us what we need to hear and when we need to hear it. This was one of those songs I was so impressed by. I wanted everyone I know about this song, yet I was a little afraid to. Watching your reaction brought back all the feelings I had then. Thank you so much for reacting to this.
Right there with you on how amazing it was of them to make this but also the sadness that it's still so needed. I listened to this one about two weeks before starting my channel, and it was the moment that I knew for sure that Home Free wouldn't be a short term distraction for me, but a long-term source of comfort and hope. I haven't regretted it in the least, they're just such good people and the music is fire too.
SO …. WHATS THE SURPRISE? It’s only Home Free delivering excellence once again! 5 fingers, forming a single FIST, supported by the arm of faithful fans, punching you rite square in the emotions! Vocally, visually, and messaging perfection. Pare for the course with these guys. A play-list must.
I’ve always liked Home Free, but I’m not that into country music, so I’d never heard this. This song, which I’m sure offended some of their fans, just made a new fan in me. The message is amazing, and I gotta say “Amen.” This will be added to one of my playlists. Way to call people to cut the crap and come together in a crisis.
💯 You're right, of course. It is so very sad that three years later we not only need this, we need it even more. Props to Home Free from a fellow Southerner.
I really don't know how anyone could not like Home Free. Everything about them is wonderful. Someday my friend, we'll learn. I think music is playing a massive role in this battle against hate. I'm a 66 year old gay man who has faced a lot of fate and truly appreciate messages like this. Great reaction, I enjoy watching your reactions, keep up the great work, God Bless ✌️❤️🙏🏳️🌈
Thank you. Exactly. Very much my experience hearing this first time. Then I went to share it with friends and no one was hit like I was. I was so confused. So seeing it hit you helps me feel less alone. So much to do, but we are "soldiers till the end".
We need to hear more songs like this. I'm sure they took a lot of flack about the contents. Let's all just get beyond all the anger and get back to being united.💗💗💗
I saw them perform this one live just two days ago, over here in the Netherlands. Somehow the message feels even stronger that way, especially when performed on an international stage with everyone singing along.

hope they do this song when you go to their concert, it was incredibly powerful every time I saw them. What was just as awesome was that almost everyone at the concerts knew all the words and sang along
When I introduce people to this country group made up of white guys mostly from the south, if there is sometimes resistance I direct them to this song. The singing is amazing. And it could be read as a public response to getting picketed by an infamously hateful church in Topeka.
No, they lost a lot of fans when Tim told them they could F off. I still don’t agree with his word rants on his Facebook page around that time and he personally lost a fan then but I love the rest of the guys so I keep on listening to them.
@@shortybarnesyanik Was it his use of a vulgarity that made you mad, or the fact that he spoke his mind openly? I haven't seen the post, so I don't know what he said or what provoked it, so I am sincerely asking.

Now you can fully understand why we love Home Free so much. HF is truly a one of a kind group, that's not afraid to say what they mean & mean what they say. Great Reaction
Those "friends" need to be called out to change and be part of this great nation. Great song and I'll be listening to it again and again. THIS is my favorite song by Home Free.
I just did a TH-cam search for the name I thought I heard Tim say, at the end. The original artist's name is Paul Cauthen. Worth checking out the original.
It's reminiscent of something Woody Guthrie would have done. He was known as a folk singer. His songs are protest songs written during the great depression. The 'dust bowl' occurred at the same time and Oklahoma and other states were devastated by drought at America's lowest economic ebb. It was an awful time.

They are very patriotic but not blindly. they see and want us to do better. ( I did not include their patriotic songs because they have a whole album of those) Anyway, my point is how could you not love them.
With the Montgomery Brawl that just happened this past weekend, this song needs to make another appearance. It’s a powerful message that this will not be tolerated anymore, and anyone that takes part WILL be called out.
Only 1 correction. HF isn't saying not welcome they're just saying we'll pray for you and hope you'll change. They didn't even leave themselves out or off the hook "Look at me you can change" That's Class right there. Love the Boys so much. They left the door open for any that will shift their perspective , heal, to be able to come back. That's Love That's compassion Mad Respect for that.
I echo your sentiments. They are calling out the current enemy to all of us. Mortius, I get it. They have addressed the issues which are important to you and me and our fellow brothers and sisters. We have attained the tipping point; it's frightening, actually terrifying. Cast your mind back and sing a chorus of We SHALL overcome. Be humble and kind everybody, much love fam.
I first heard this song on Spotify, and I never really thought about it’s message, I just figured it was kinda like an army chant. However, watching this reaction made me think about the message, and I’m glad Mortius pointed it out to me. Side note: watching the patreon list get longer and longer makes me really happy since I can’t currently join without an income (I’m a minor without a job yet).
Yes, all the people shown are Home Fries that submitted clips. This is a very good song and I am truly surprised that more reactors haven't picked it up (and disappointed too).
This song shocked me too -- but in a good way! Go Home Free for saying a lot of what we are all thinking. God bless America and may we all learn to get along to save our country. Great reaction to a great song, Mortius! ❤
“Everybody Walkin’ This Land” is a song by Paul Cauthen. It is a swaggering, boot-stomping country tear that calls out everyone from the fascists to the angels across a percussive, bluesy stretch1. The song was originally released on his 2018 EP "Have Mercy"2.
I’ve been waiting for you to react to this for sooooo long, even though I knew it would absolutely destroy you. Or maybe because I knew it would absolutely destroy you. 😈 I’m sure I’ve suggested it at least a couple times, but it’s been a while. I’m glad you finally got to it, and really glad I didn’t miss it.
This is my favorite HF song, even over some of their originals, because of the message. I tear up every time (which is annoying but wonderful). Thanks for finally getting around to it, and glad you're as excited about it ;) Also, the style is called various things (some rather racist), but we always called them Field Songs - those easily sung while working away from electronics. And yes, it's a great tune to keep people going. Even if we're sniffly while singing along.
I saw them live when they came to the UK in October and they started the second half with this. Holy crap are they amazing live! you have to see them when they tour next!!
Thanks for your wise and correct understanding.
The line "Look at me, you can change" hits harder when you realize Paul Cauthen is a reformed racist.

Nice slow deep breathes and listen to your own breathing .
With the Montgomery Brawl that just happened this past weekend, this song needs to make another appearance.
It’s a powerful message that this will not be tolerated anymore, and anyone that takes part WILL be called out.
A great song and message. I hope they performed it at the concert you went to. They have been doing it recently and it is so powerful.
Aww, you made me cry. Knew you'd love this one.
Just when you think you've got Home Free pegged, they throw something like this out there. Brilliant!!
I have been watching this on repeat. I love your reaction - it’s so genuine.
This song has a regular place in my "background" playlist. As much as I enjoy the fun stuff, this is one of the songs that made me a Home Fry.
Chance's voice reminds me of Leonard Cohen in his verse. Such a powerful song beautifully done by our favorite guys.
Thank you, Mortius! I was moved exactely like you when I first heard this song! You spoke directly from my heart!!❤
thank you, Mortius for showing us your honest emotion. It brought the same out of me
This was wtitten by Beau Bedford snd Paul Cauthen and was first released by Paul Cauthen in 2018. Home Free released this in July 2020
Love your reaction, Mortius! I wish everyone could hear this song and take it to heart. I love Home Free!
Tell home free I said Thankyou for this song and AMEN
And this is why I love Homefree ❤️
Thank you for your love and appreciation for this message.
We love you.
Yes, all the people shown are Home Fries that submitted clips. This is a very good song and I am truly surprised that more reactors haven't picked it up (and disappointed too).
Every time I watch a new reactor, I always recommend This song, because I LOVE IT! Thank you for your reaction!
i like the fact they are not given them the finger but are really praying for them. Loving them.
this is good.
The impact of your reaction matches the impact of the video. Glad to meet you.
I needed this today. Thank you.
I love Home Free for their talent, their music and the joy they put out into the world. This is one of the songs that makes me proud to be a Home Fry.
This is the best song they have. It is one of my favorite songs period. I am with you all the way on your reaction to this.
This song shocked me too -- but in a good way! Go Home Free for saying a lot of what we are all thinking. God bless America and may we all learn to get along to save our country. Great reaction to a great song, Mortius! ❤
All we can do is try to be positive, friendly & pay kindness & respect forward one step at a time.
Absolutely love this song, and your reaction made it so worth it! So glad that you loved it :)
They’re Good People™️. Man, I love Home Free.
I think you were thinking Folk Song, but I"m not sure this would be considered as such. Love your reaction to this! Thanks, Mortius!
Right on Mortius, Right on.
Loved your reaction! And yes, Home Free is standing in their beliefs and “calling out” everyone else.
Thanks for finally getting around to it, and glad you're as excited about it ;)
Also, the style is called various things (some rather racist), but we always called them Field Songs - those easily sung while working away from electronics. And yes, it's a great tune to keep people going. Even if we're sniffly while singing along.
Your response is wonderful. Totally agree with you.
For another emotional roller-coaster from Home Free, please check out their version of Travelling Soldier.
An.amazing song I never heard before, but guaranteed not for the last time! ❤❤❤
Looking forward to seeing them in september.
This video is so cool and so is the message
Absolutely loved your reaction.
So appreciate your reaction for the message in this song.
I saw them live when they came to the UK in October and they started the second half with this. Holy crap are they amazing live! you have to see them when they tour next!!
