" Every transaction is assigned a consensus time, which is the median of the times at which each node says it first received it."
this leads to some very interesting test cases.

I would argue there should be a more complex statistical analysis that detects outliers than a simple median

The hypothetical is that someone has major faith that 1-100 billion usd loss is worth a larger win for them in the future.(people can take option to not be included in Forbes richest)
Seems could take 46-51% stake on 46-51% of nodes to affect the median time of the network. If needed to make thousands of nodes to reach medium then it is more difficult... What happens if the medium time of the new block is before a previous block, does the network crash or just show a wrong time or what?

First of all, they are not blocks. This is not a blockchain. They go based on the Median time stamp and not based on which blocks came in last.
The answer to your other question is way more technical. A few things to keep in mind, if you decide to act as a bad node, the other node will come to consensus and vote you out. So you'll have to accomplish an incredible feat that requires 50%+ of the nodes to act badly at the exact same moment, do it out of order and they'll get picked out of the consensus shard, 1 by 1. This is assuming you can even control 1 of those nodes (you forget that the nodes voting power is staking + proxy staking, so if outside observers notice you acting badly, they could take their proxy stake elsewhere). Who would proxy stake where? The answer is simple, people would proxy stake nodes who had a good reputation and that means you would have to pull off another miracle, have 50% of the nodes convince for months outside users that you are a good node and then time the attack at exactly the same time. Oh, and all of this within a 5 seconds consensus window. After consensus has been reached, no amount of time manipulation will change the order and you risk being flagged for being a bad node if you fabricate a false timestamp after consensus reached.
Consensus is reached with finality. Once consensus is reached, the wallets balance gets updated, all attempt to add future timestamps to that transaction is irrelevant and are dismissed. Because they don't use a blockchain, they don't have the short comings often seen when chains of block are attempting to form new paths.
