A SOUTH AFRICAN adventure - Tourist Guide to Lambert's Bay / Lambertsbaai West Coast

  • In this video, I explore the sights and delights of Lambert's Bay (Afrikaans: Lambertsbaai), a small South African fishing town situated 280km north of Cape Town. It is part of the beautiful West Coast and also nicknamed the 'Diamond of the West Coast'.
    I grew up in Lambert's Bay for a period and therefore have a soft spot for the town. Even though this video is not sponsored and I did not get ask to put in a good word for the town, I am unashamedly trying to promote tourism in the region as the town and the wider area could do with a further economic injection.
    We start our journey by meeting a local artist known for creating model boats and photo frames. Following this visit, we also explore the beaches of the town including:
    (i) Malkopbaai area, which is renowned for its beautiful beach trails (note - I previously posted a separate silent walking tour vlog of Malkopbaai so make sure you watch this one too!), and
    (ii) Lambert's Bay main beach, which is characterised by long stretches of white sand and perfect for long, peaceful walks.
    For a further cultural injection, I also visit several shops and markets as well as the local museum - the Sandveld Musuem - where we will learn about the history of Lambert's Bay, explore various elements of Afrikaner life and last but not least, the unique history of the HMS Sybille and its connections with Lambert's Bay.
    I also speak to several local Lambert's Bay natives and characters along the way, all with their own perspectives on life.
    I hope you enjoy this beautiful town and that it will broaden your perspectives about South Africa and what the Rainbow Nation has to offer outside the usual tourist trail. Please hit that SUBSCRIBE button!

    I lived in Lambertsbaai 50 years ago and always wanted to go back - but having seen this video I don't recognise anything at all about my favourite place on earth --- they say you should never go back, so I don't think I will now. Before we had our house we spent two months in The Marine Hotel run by Mr and Mdme Rousseau -- it was a tiny tiny village with nothing to do and nowhere to go. Many many happy memories, but I won't be going back. Thank you for posting this video x

    How's the cost of living and the overall quality of life in South Africa?

    • @willieexplore
      @willieexplore  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting question and there is no single answer, as South Africa has one of the highest Gini coefficients in the world (inequality) which means a huge difference in living standards for different segments of society. Having said that, compared to the UK, day-to-day items such as food is cheaper and alcohol is a lot cheaper. Luxury items such as electronics can be (and I think generally are) more expensive due to a lack of supply and logistics issues. South Africa is blessed with amazing weather but also have to contend with below par / poor public services and electricity supply.
