    This is so much better than any Powercab vids out there. I thought I saw somewhere that Line 6 recommends not only line out but also turning the big volume knob all the way up, and then adjust the channel volume of each patch. But I can't see that it would make a difference.

      EVH & Gear TV Network just a tip for Helix Native: you don’t want to be just below clipping. If you look in the plug-in window, next to the input meters on the left, there is a gray bar. That is the zone you want your signal to be in, either by using your DAW input gain control, or the input trim slider in Helix Native. If you own a Helix, but regularly use a different interface with Helix Native, experiment with using Helix hardware as the interface to Helix Native, with Native’s input trim set to 0. Then play into Native through Helix (Dry guitar default channel is USB 7). That’s where you want your input signal to be on the input meters of Helix Native when using any interface, especially if later on you want to transfer those presets to Helix/HX hardware. 🤘

    Good video. I've been putting off learning how to take full advantage of PC+ for too long now. Couple questions/points:
    I use the L6 link, not any of the other outputs from Helix. You didn't mention it, but I am assuming you don't configure send level for that. It should already be set appropriately, right?
    I also don't send to FOH from the cab. I prefer to go direct out of Helix. I don't even use PC+ in some gigs. I prefer IEMs and no cab. But one band I am in has 12 performers and it's a rare local sound guy who can do a great job with that. In that case I use it as a stage monitor so I can hear what I am playing in case I need to control that. For that reason I really should avoid playing with the "big knob" as you called it. So I guess I need to tweak input level, a capability I had overlooked before now.
    Thing is, my current approach is to create a separate Helix patch for every song to allow for maximum tailoring of the patch to the song. As a side benefit, Helix keeps track of my setlist without a hard copy. Down side is I have had a HELL of a time volume leveling all the snapshots across all those patches. Reason I mention it is you said to use your loudest patch. In my case, that may keep changing as the song list changes between bands. But, I understand your point regardless.

    • @SteveSterlacci
      @SteveSterlacci  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you want to use it the same way I do! Unless you are changing cabs on the PC using Helix, the aes/ebu is a waste IMO. I use it just as you mention here. Line out 1/4" and control it with the big knob. I sometimes have it, mostly dont on stage

    • @johnnyvlee
      @johnnyvlee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SteveSterlacci I went that route because I planned to change cabs (and was considering getting 2nd PC+). I just haven't put time into figuring it out yet. I have questions. Not sure what to do with patches that already have more than 1 cab or IR block for one thing. And those blocks are quite often NOT the last block but if I switch to cab em. it will ALWAYS be effectively the last block. I'll start with a couple simple patches and dip my foot in the water.

    • @SteveSterlacci
      @SteveSterlacci  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% yes. Helix modeling into a tube amp has too many factors affecting tone. It will be very difficult to make it sound good without really knowing what you are doing with the Helix. I would recommend the PC all day

    • @johnnyvlee
      @johnnyvlee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SteveSterlacci I'm torn. I kind of want to supplement PC+ with another guitar cab.
      I used to play through Mesa Boogie tube amps. My Helix is in the shop and I had to dig out one of my tube amps and set up a pedal board to get through a couple rehearsals. I had forgotten the sweet tone I used to get out of that amp. Part of the sound is the EV12 speaker with that 10-ton(!) magnet.
      I have another cab with that same speaker and I was thinking it would be nice to use that in tandem with PC+. As you noted, I don't really want to deal with the complexity of running through the actual amp, but I'd like to get SOME of that sweet sound using this EV12 cab. Not quite sure best way to go about that, though.

    Steve. You say that you prefer setting the level using global settings. How do you deal with variations in patch levels across different patches? Is it best to get an 'overall' signal in the right place using your methods in this video only or should I turn up the output block in the HX or Stomp on a patch by patch basis. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers.

    • @SteveSterlacci
      @SteveSterlacci  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're using an HX Stomp, use the channel volume of the amplifiers to match the volume outputs since it's the one parameter that doesn't affect the tone. You can definitely use the PC to level match but ultimately you have to just test out at full volume either at a rehearsal or loud backing track.. I would suggest both ! Lol

However, if you are doing FRFR then you do need a cabinet in your signal chain? Also can you control the powercab from the helix??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Love your videos!!!

    Hi ! The video is three years old, so not sure you'll see it. This is how I set my PC+112, BUT I realised that turning the speaker emulation up (in the preset parameters) will make the LED go to the Red area ! I thought this parameter was just affecting output, not input. Have you noticed that ?
    The problem is, then, that if I output the signal from the XLR, it is too loud (even if I choose a mike level) and if I lower this parameter, the input LED goes back to green.
    How come ?

      @@jeromes2240 I just picked up a PC+ today and was fiddling with those PC+ preset parameters/volumes and noticed it too changing the LED. Makes me think those preset controls are effecting the signal pre power amp but post input gain. Best bet is to do a global reset which puts these preset volumes at their defaults and then leave them alone. Manual says little about this control. My guess is those preset volumes are to compensate for differing IR volumes someone dumps into the PC.

      If you're going to a mixing desk or FOH (basically any board) , you want to set to mic level.
