    4:16 "there's no actual cab model here" - but he's using the amp+cab block on Helix, not just the amp block...? I think this is why the opening clip and a couple other clips sound really dark and just not great: he was essentially running through two cabs in series.

    • @bossgt100presets3
      @bossgt100presets3 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Alex.Guitars Yes,but even when you select amp+ cab block in Helix,you can switch cab off but amp+cab stays on display!

    • @ourawkfist
      @ourawkfist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Youre so correct technically, but the configuration is a little lazy to say the least. Its like when i copy a patch that was set for a mixer and rename it so i can put it in front of an amp, i remove the "amp+cab" blocks. Then i modify the heck out of the tone because you just have to for it to sound right in front of a real amp.

    • @AlexStrabala
      @AlexStrabala 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, the opening clip and a couple clips around 4:16 really sound bad, like Helix's cab block is on when he's running into the PowerCab with its cab modeling on as well.

    Ok, so I am going to run my helix into a mixer all day every day. Thats why i bought it. At home, I use an Alto TS212 powered monitor so i can actually hear the tone I am configuring my Helix to generate. I only heard one good real world reason to buy this. You play a lot of smaller gigs/fairs where the house is already setup to mic your amp and this will do the job. I can still haul my TS212 around, same weight, same tone, dont have to reconfig my patches. Its just not $800 or $1000 cool. Bring the price down and i might buy a used one just to check it out. Otherwise, im sticking with my Helix to do what it does the best, right into the mixer.

    • @ShredRexGuitar
      @ShredRexGuitar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rob Long - I use my helix with an Alto TX and we have a few L2Ts at rehearsal, as well as studio monitors at home. I don't see any reason to spend that kinda cash on this at all. However someone who owns a Pod HD 500 or any other modeller that doesn't have the capability to use IRs will want the plus version for that feature alone. But Helix already does everything and sounds killer with any FRFR solution or direct to FOH

    • @mikedfurman
      @mikedfurman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a helix and I play it at home through an EV ZLX 12P, and it's great for that already mic'd sound but if this does a great job of emulating the 'amp in the room' feel without having to mess with lots of settings then that's definitely worth it to me.

    • @RicardoDLF
      @RicardoDLF 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, this means that you can connect the Helix direct straight to the Alto speakers without using a (small) sound mixer? I have a HD500X, then in order to use a PA speaker, since my POD doesnt have IRs I do need a sound mixer? (As if connecting direct to house mixer).

    If "just the speaker" is modeled, does this mean then the mic is not?... like finally, amp in the room sound?

    • @tomulator
      @tomulator 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      YES. Exactly. Then...if you send the DI out from the Powercab to the FOH, you can select mic emulations with the ability to choose mic type and distance that will only affect the DI send. So, this means you send the sound of a “mic’d speaker in the Powercab” to the FOH while only hearing the sound of the speaker model “in the Powercab enclosure”coming out of the front...for your stage sound. Like an actual amp would sound.

  • @napalmhardcore
    @napalmhardcore 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I saw another video where it was said that they can be mic'd like a traditional speaker cab, but surely you would have to pay very close attention to where you place the mic in relation to the compression driver. Or am I mistaken and the "raw" mode is used for speaker emulation and FRFR is just used for when it is being used as a monitor?
    I've often thought it would be better to use a single driver with a wide frequency response as a base rather than a coax or traditional horn and tweeter arrangement. You can get full range single drivers, however they normally don't compare well to two or three way designs when it comes to hi-fi application. However, for this kind of application, you don't need hi-fi like response. You just need a wider response than the speakers you are trying to emulate.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there,
      You can definitely change the shape of the sound depending on where you would be placing the microphone on this cabinet. And yes, you are correct... you would have to consider the compression driver as it is a bit different than a standard guitar cab.
      There are a few different voicings available: FRFR, LF Solo, and LF Flat. If you didn't want to utilize those settings, you would be able to use the the emulations that are included with the speaker. You would be able to use the FRFR mode for more than just a monitor. It ultimately depends on the settings and sound you are trying to achieve.
      Thanks for reaching out!

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, Jacob. Yes! Since the PowerCab has cab/speaker models built into it, you don't need to have a cab block set up on the Helix.

    Honestly I already spent the money on the helix and I don't think I believe I need the extra speaker modeling in a cabinet. I am not seeing the advantage of purchasing this as an addition to the helix. What I want is a speaker, perhaps with that XLR, that sounds great with the already build in speakers in the helix and the IR's I bought and loaded into the helix.

    • @circadevices
      @circadevices 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This does exactly that? Or it has its own speaker mode if you want to save the DSP on your Helix. The Plus will also model IRs so your Helix doesn't have to.
      What you're asking for is exactly what this does....?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions! It depends on your mixer. If you want to use one of the XLR inputs on your mixer it's probably set for mic level, or you can use a line input if you have them available. There isn't any easy way to link a plus model and standard together for stereo, but if you're using a Helix or any device with a stereo output you can send the left output to one speaker and right output to the other directly. Two plus cabs with the L6 link cables is the most versatile and convenient setup, though. Let me know if you have other questions!

    He gave a really poor explanation, shifting between amp/cab, amp, PowerCab... Sweetwater should make them do it over again.
    1. If you select one of the speaker models, it's like that 12" speaker inside of that 1-12 cabinet.
    2. If you select a typical IR, which (similar to a cab model) is the sum of a speaker, cab, mic, etc: is it (for example) that IR version of a Marshall 412 with greenbacks, mic'd with an SM57, as if it was all stuffed inside that 1-12 cabinet?
    If the PowerCab's own cabinet affects the modeled speaker, it must also affect the IR.
    Or is there some kind of compensation going on in Flat Response mode, to make the physical cabinet transparent to the IR?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Aziz Aziz. The Helix LT can work with either version of the PowerCab. The Plus model does allow you to store IR's so if that is something you need, that would be the version to get. Both versions of the PowerCab have built in cab models and can run as a flat response speaker, so they'll both work great with all of the Helix products.

    • @sweetwater

      Hello, Shy! You wouldn't want to run the power of a tube amp into another power amp. If you were going to use a head with this, you'd want to run from the preamp send. I haven't heard it that way yet, as this was really designed to work more with amp emulators (Helix, Kemper, etc.). Thanks for your question!

    Great stuff but its too expensive for us hobbyist guitar players at home use only (not pros playing live). I need an FRFR for home use only that I can hook up my Firehawk FX or Helix modeler into to get all the Amp cabs and Efx from my unit and play electric or acoustic guitar and have also some way to play my backing tracks to jam along with. But it needs to be < $350. what are the options? the Line 6 L series PAs are too big and powerful and expensive so I was really hoping this would be my solutions but it seems not so. :( Please Line 6 think of us at home who love our modeler and need a simple and inexpensive option. These are almost as much as the modeler itself!

The product is actually confusing to me too, but the fact that he spends the first 6 minutes screwing around with the helix controls instead of the cab's, really frustrated me. We got it - the helix is great, and has its own cab sims etc. But I just want to see you using the powercab, and using the powercab controls. It is already a product which most people are not going to be sure of...Demo the basics (Helix WITHOUT CAB sims on, going into the power cab!!). Don't mess around with the midi controls/connectivity features with the Helix before doing that that!

    I was hoping he was going to demo how great the speaker modeling sounds with classic amp models. Too much talk. Not enough rock. Looking forward to more. Please demo classic tones and not weenie metal and delay and reverb drenched schlock. TIA.

    do these work well with the HD500's via L6? I'm tired of my DT50's breaking down constantly. I'm literally afraid to use them.

      I was thinking of getting a dt50 on reverb. Are they really that unreliable?
