This video was surreal to watch. I taught myself how to eyeshadow over the last two years starting with Kackie, Amanda, and HLP. Amanda is my skin and face twin between the three, particularly my deep-set hollow eyes. I do my eyeshadow EXACTLY the same way, particularly keeping darker colors on the outer 2/3. It took me a lot of trial and error so let me just say if you don't always like how your eye makeup comes out TRY THIS. I find it also wears better on my oily, deep-set lids because the shadows only touch very similar colors when my lids move and the darkest colors stop before the deepest part of my crease.
Not gonna lie, I love both looks! However, it's so useful to know these little tricks so you can actively choose what kind of look you want to go for. It's annoying when you go for a certain look and it doesn't turn out how you want. Videos like this are so helpful to get the look I want (even if I'm not super concerned about my hollows).
this video is CRAZY! I have been following multiple tricks from this video on my own for about a year now and never knew why I enjoyed them until this video! i have deep set eyes and i bet this is why i enjoy these techniques,
I know these types of videos don't excite the TH-cam gods as much as reviews, but I love this type of tutorial! Both looks are lovely but you're right, sometimes we want to lean into a feature and sometimes lean away and that's our call. This was super helpful for learning how to do both.
i honestly looooove the look of the dark eyeliner in your waterline. it’s so cool and grungy and even the hallow under eyes add to the look! it’s sexy in an “I’m not dealing with any shit today” sort of way. very hannah louise poston
I love more technique-based videos like this! Would definitely watch more! And I am going to be trying some of these techniques this evening for my own hollow undereyes.
As a Deep set hollow under eye sister, I Love this vid! So many of these tips i’ve never heard of or even thought about. I will definitely be trying these.
I'm so glad Kackie mentioned you and your hollow under eyes in her most recent video. I have hollow under eyes and I already know these tips are going to be a game changer. For YEARS I've just done eyeshadow without regard to them because nobody talks about this and just had no clue why it always looks like I've got so much eyeshadow under my eye when I haven't touched that area at all. This is awesome thank you so much.
I tried the mascara tip and it made a huge change! I usually skip mascara just because I don't like how my eyes look for some reason, and your explanation about round shapes made a lot of sense! Thank you!
This makes so much sense, the round shapes mimicking each other. I’ve always admired how you shape your eyes with shadow and I’m very appreciative of this video!
I really like both looks, I have very deep hollow with extremely dark purple-brown dark circles that I can never completely conceal and I tend to lean into it because it is just much easier to go full on grungy. But I think these tips look easy enough for me and make the right eye look so much brighter lighter and lifted. I'm looking forward to trying these techniques, thank you!
Thanks Amanda for the great tips. I’m been having an issue with eyeshadow weighing my eyes down and almost looking closed and this really helped open everything up as well as taking the focus off my under eyes.
The "no-no" look is actually a terrific look for at night, just as the "correct" look is perfect for day. Neither one is actually right or wrong; it's just a matter of setting a mood based on time of day. Sometimes, a hollow-eyed look is very beautiful and evocative, but it's not necessarily something you'd wear to work or in bright sunlight!
Thank you so much for making this tutorial - as a fellow sunken undereyed girlie I will definitely be using + being more aware of these techniques! Since my eyes are a bit uneven I will definitely (continue to) struggle with the eyeliner technique but as they say practice makes perfect
This is the most beneficial tutorial I have ever watched! Hands down. Brava! Your thorough explanation of placement and why, were spot on. This is why I watch everything you film. Hooray for us hollow eyed ladies!
So helpful, I have dark and hollow undereyes too. I've found myself doing some of these already (almost stopped applying eyeshadow on the inner element of my eyelid, use concealer there instead), some are new to me and super helpful. Thanks!
This was so interesting and helpful! I already do my eyes like your lifted eye with my crease color not too far in and dark outer corner as you showed and especially my lid shimmer shade in a gradient dark to light in my inner upper lid because of my hooded lids. I even do the touch of light shimmer above my iris. I discovered that going dark to light in a gradient vertically outer lid to upper is just more flattering. Now, sometimes I do halo eyes because I like them, but my go-to for what is truly most flattering on me is what is what you’ve found most flattering on you, too. I had to relearn what looked good as I aged and my lids became more hooded. Good news, if your eyes become more hooded as happen to so many of us as we age, you already have the perfect shape down to a science!!
This video is life changing! Thank you!! I have really struggled to wear any eyeshadow because I don't like emphasizing the hollows under my eyes. Can't wait to try these tips!
I have hollows too and they don't bother me, cause the alternative is having bags under the eyes. At least we can camouflage those! Thanks for the tips Amanda, they seem to really work.
This was so eye opening! Sorry for the pun I couldn’t help myself. But seriously this is beyond helpful for me and no one has ever explained or showed this in such detail that it makes sense to me. Thank you sooooo much! I’ve been having so much fun playing around with this technique and appreciated this sort of content so much!💛🙌
This is the video I needed in my life! Thank you!!! You can clearly see my hollows in my pic. Not wearing any substantial makeup there. When I was younger and wore makeup I played up my upper eye/brow bone just like you did here. Though I was younger and it was the late 90s/early 2000s so I was a bit more wild with colors and liner etc. I stepped away from makeup for a long time and am now rediscovering it so I’ve been trying to do the outer v, into the crease look everyone else does and I always feel like my hollows are so accentuated. Now I gotta get into your other videos because I feel like we have a lot of facial similarities 🖤
This is incredible!!! Such a value-filled video (all of your videos are!). You are so amazing at explaining techniques and why it may/may not matter depending on concerns and preferences. Thank you!!
I love these kinds of videos and you are one of the best at explaining why u are doing the things you doing. Seeing a side by side helps so much. Honestly both look great it kinda reminds me of some of the videos alex anele does where she a tually leans into her dark dark circles. Id have to say that you, Kackie and Alex are my go to's because you guys are such great teachers. You all have very different styles but i have leaned so much from you three. It's unbelievable how much of it i incorporate into my daily routine. Thank you so so so much for this video 💋✨
Honestly, both looks are stunning on you! I do find videos like this helpful just so know what yo do depending on the look you're going for. I can see the difference for sure though and how the one look really draws the eye upwards and away from the hollow under eye. That being said I also love a smokier grungier look too! Like, I said, both are beautiful, and thank you for sharing these tips!
Absolutely amazing video Amanda! I have fair skin and I have also had dark hollow under eyes all my life which didn't get better as I wore glasses all my teen years and early twenties. I really appreciate your tips in this video and for an everyday look or special events, I always try to not emphasize my hollow under eyes. I've gotta say, you're a timeless beauty and both sides look amazing! In fact, this video inspired me to try a more grungy look and I'm super excited about it! I'd LOVE a video on the grungy, undone, cool look of your "don't" eye, you'd totally rock the rock star look! :)
Love this!! The last few times I have done a Smokey eye I have really noticed my eye hollows a lot more than without makeup and didn’t know why it was happening. I’m definitely going to try your tips next time. ❤
Thank you, I was curious but I knew there was a reason you did that. Thank you for another lesson. Now, here's the harder one, how do I know if I have a hollow or not? Is there a trick for that as well or does it mean if I question it I haven't got it? Please say people were not mean in asking you why you didnt cover your whole lid? 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Very interesting! I'd say the 'closed' look could be taken even further, taking the dark shadow even lower for a full on grungy look. It's kind of a cool departure from your normal, ethereal style! (Which is lovely)
Thanks for this video! I love the two different looks! I have baggy hollows from being 68. I followed your one you did to lift it up. I have almost no moveable lid. It looked better. My problem is anytime I use a darker eyeshadow it deep sets my eyes in an unfavorable way. Hoping my Nira laser might lift this up some over surgery which I am not into.
I do think the "wrong" side looks hot 😂 I've always had hollows under my eyes, but really like the definition of lining my waterline and smoking out the eyeshadow a bit on the lower lashline. I do keep the outer corner angled up, like you, because I really like that lifted look (and don't want to have to do a winged liner every single day). Maybe it's not the "best" look for my eye situation, but I'll never get tired of the effortless sexiness of a kind of lived-in, imperfect, grungy smokey eye. It's the confident, carefree, badass chick of the makeup world.
LOVE this video! I have very hollow undereyes and everything you said aligns with what I’ve found for myself too. I’ve always wanted to pull off liner in the waterline look but it looks incredibly harsh on me and emphasizes the hollow. But you do low key rock this look lol.
I can never get a wing like on the elongated look. It looks so elegant. Could you please explain the technique more? And may be with a bigger close up?
Loved this vid & your eye looks, even if I don’t even see your hollow under eyes at all 😅 You are so lucky w your not dark under eyes & amazing hair & eyes 😘 But appreciate your tutorial, and would love to see it w darker emerald green or navy shades for night out?
My eye shape is very similar to yours and placement of shadow in the crease and on the lid has been the very issue I've been trying to figure out for a little bit now. I need to try this way.
Now I’m totally confused. I love your point here, but Shelbey Wilson (is I think her surname) does a third version. She always looks stunning. She does the thing you did with the second shade, but slightly different to the first. I’ll have to try both now! You’re both good at what you do. Arrgggg. I need to be a MUA right now!
This was super interesting. And yes: I would love to see a makeup look embracing the hollow under eyes. Would it kinda be a Lydia from Beetlejuice vibe? 🤔
Amanda help please! This is great information for hollow eye's and much needed, thank you. Couldn't turn smartphone sideways to get you on full screen (no computer) The open eye that you were working on was turned to the side. Also please how do you do this look with your cream shadows (Tom Ford, CT, etc). Please help. Even the Ulta one's that you recommend. Thank you! Best on TH-cam. 💕🐕🦺🐾🐾
Interesting video. I just wish you had been a bit more still and looked directly at the camera more. It was hard to keep up and see the differences while you were doing it - especially when you are looking to the side most of the time. Was helpful when you switched side views for the liner part. Maybe after each idea, stop and look directly at the camera for a long beat and not move your face so we can really see that clear difference. Also, I have hollows but a pretty angular face so I have to be careful I don't exaggerate the angles too much with a winged out look like this. Oh the curse of the hollows!

^ well said! I completely agree
I find that powdering under my eyes helps them look less hollow; the light reflecting off of them makes them more pronounced
this video is CRAZY! I have been following multiple tricks from this video on my own for about a year now and never knew why I enjoyed them until this video! i have deep set eyes and i bet this is why i enjoy these techniques,

I love more technique-based videos like this! Would definitely watch more! And I am going to be trying some of these techniques this evening for my own hollow undereyes.
Wow, wow, wow! How is it at 55 yrs. of age i am only just discovering the transformative quality of makeup? Thank you for your tutorial! :)
As a Deep set hollow under eye sister, I Love this vid! So many of these tips i’ve never heard of or even thought about. I will definitely be trying these.
This may be one of the most helpful videos. Please do more very specific technique videos like this.
I love this style of video. As a beginner it's super super helpful. Please make 5 million more of them!
Both sides look good! but I agree the under eye on the side with the more elongated shape looks almost photoshoped, crazy!

This was so informative and not something I’ve come across on TH-cam before! Love learning more about technique and theory over product/review.

Excellent! Never had to worry about hallow eyes, but approaching 60.

Thoroughly loved this and so helpful 💛
Thank you for this video! I have such hollowness, and dry crapey eyes!
Wow, honestly both look amazing! You look so beautiful with liner on your lower waterline!!! Super sexy look. Thanks for all the tips and tricks!

This was amazingly helpful, Amanda. Thank you so much!!! I'm going to give some of these tips a try today! ❤️❤️❤️
Great video!
I love how you explained and showed the technique.
Awesome.
Thank you for this video. I love your tutorials!

My eye shape is very similar to yours and placement of shadow in the crease and on the lid has been the very issue I've been trying to figure out for a little bit now. I need to try this way.
Can you please do an eyeliners vid ?
I would love to see different shapes of eyeliner in your eye ❤
Plzzz 😊

Awesome tips.
This was super interesting. And yes: I would love to see a makeup look embracing the hollow under eyes. Would it kinda be a Lydia from Beetlejuice vibe? 🤔
What's *your* dream blunt rotation?
Love both sides. But understand well what you mean, have the same problem. Just how you feel 💕
Amanda help please! This is great information for hollow eye's and much needed, thank you. Couldn't turn smartphone sideways to get you on full screen (no computer)

I’ve been watching you for a long time, and I never knew you were in Baltimore! 🤣 Hello from Virginia!
I'm going to do this opposite to enhance my hollow some days and whatever 🙂
Nice!

This is funny to me. I have the same eye shape and have developed all of these same techniques over the years! Every single one.
To be honest i love the ❌ side more😅
You’re so good at doing makeup that you can’t make it look bad even if you try 😅
I completely disagree with you! Of course it's your face and you can and should do what you prefer but I SO completely prefer the 'not to do' side
The cardinal sin is not curling your eyelashes, lmao
So basically every "cat eye" technique.
