I used to live in Warter as a child in The Bungalow on Addelkeld. I was a pupil at both of the schools in the video as the current school was built whilst I was there. My dad was Manager on one of the three units that Water Estate was divided into at the time. The Mercer family converted the Chapel. The Robinson family ran the post office and I was in Mrs Browns class at the time. Mr Shimmings was headmaster. We buried a time capsule when the school was opened. I think it was dug up in 2000 and replaced with a new one.
Hello Andy. I am a big Hockney fan. I saw his Bigger Trees in a gallery, so I went to Warter to find them. Thanks for the tour of Warter, it is just as I remember it. ilona
It was pretty cool to find something depicted in a famous painting. It's quite a eye opening thing, seeing what an artist saw and wondering why they picked that particular spot
Another really good episode Andy and as I'm a Hockney fan it's always good to see the places that inspired him. Once when I was driving around there I spotted Mr. H with his assistant and all the easel & paints set up down a lane. I must visit the church if you say it's a heritage centre now, thanks :)
Lady N was a tartar. She would drop by into tenants' houses unexpectedly and make an inspection. If the standard of housekeeping wasn't up to her level, or she found alcohol, you were out.
Really enjoyed your video today. Excellent history information. Many thanks.
Great video of Warter now imortalised in David Hockney's paintings of that area
Love your videos. Waiting for Fridaythorpe.

Yes she sounded like that kind of woman from what I was reading. Very strict, no BS kind of girl
