03:53 The people buried in that private graveyard are distant relatives of mine.
05:52 My Great Uncle's name is on the War Memorial - Arthur, aka 'Taffy', Cressey. Happily he did return from the war and lived the rest of his life in the village as a Farmer at Hill Farm on Beverley Road. 🙂

    Hi Andy
    A nice little village.
    Love the Jubilee statues.
I like how they remember their heritage by keeping the mill still in working order. Nice that they have a cafe too.
I imagine it gets very busy in summer, with cyclists.
    Visiting the Wolds..
    Thanks for vlog.

Nice village but desperately needs a shop, there used to be one at 39 main st and also the post office at 123 main st used to sell a few bits and pieces before it closed down.

I was surprised it didn't have one, village of that size. Mind you, I guess Cottingham/Willerby are close by. Even so you need a car

When I lived in Skidby in the 1960s, at Spittal Garth on Beverley Road, the village shop was known as 'Gilberts' after the family that owned it.
Every week we would take our Grandma's red Silverline book with her shopping list carefully written in pencil in it to the shop. On the Friday Mr Gilbert used to call with all the groceries she had ordered in a cardboard box. At the top of the pile was always her little treat: two packets of 20 Woodbine cigarettes! 😵 In addition a travelling Butcher used to call weekly. He had a white van and would open the back doors where his butcher's block and scales were.
There was also a small truck that called about every fortnight from a fizzy drink manufacturers in Hull. I cannot remember the name of the company but amongst the usual flavours they used to sell a drink called, I think, 'Gran Shan' so we called the chap who drove the truck 'The Gran Shan Man'. 🙂
In the Summer, joy of joys, an Ice Cream Van used to call. I remember Fab and Joom lollies and blocks of my favourite: Raspberry Ripple.
      Happy days. 👍
