Even her resigning was a class act. As I looked at a 20yr old, Vanessa, standing at the podium, now it's like God was standing right there, with His arm around her, telling her He got her, and they will see it through. The reporters were acting like it was a side show, and we know what was behind all those photographers 5inches from her face, flashing bulbs. She probably was younger than all of them, but she showed more maturity in her little finger, than they have in their whole body. A real classic lady.

I remember this. During this time the pageant was done in September. All they had to do was wait two months she would have had to give up the crown anyways. A year later in 1985 the winner of Miss America was a lady named Susan Akin. Her grandfather was in the klan who was involved in the 1964 murders of Goodman, Chaney & Schwerner. She also had segregation beliefs as well. Point is..VW had to give up the crown just for showing some bare skin but Akin had ties to the KKK & murder, she didn't have to give up a damn thing.

Im 46 and i remember this so clearly. It was a bad decision but im just so grateful that she went on to have such a successful career. Being a pageant queen Was beneath her anyway ( but i know it was a different time then). I grew up on her music and the fact that she went on to have such successful acting career is wonderful. Its awful that this happened to her. She was so young. This would have taken most people down a bad path for rest of her life. Love her.

Who cares, the scandal didn’t hurt her at all. Everyone thinks of Vanessa Williams as nothing BUT class, talent, modesty, and decency. Oh boy…I remember this vividly as a kid because my mom had a few choice words about the situation and was disappointed with Vanessa Williams. I was too little to understand exactly what was going on. Now as an adult I do have mixed feelings about this. But kudos for Vanessa Williams to continue with her career as best she could during a tough situation.
As a huge fan, I was also a child around that time, and didn't really grasp the full magnitude. As a 19 yr old Child I've wondered; what did people like your Mother really expect, or what from her!? Despite being a "teenage child" when it happened it was people like your family's skepticism, and Judgment that forced this BLACK college educated, young lady to work three times, as hard than at times, her uneducted, and "basic" counterparts just to be considered equal. That most have cut like a bĺazing hott nife, until her efforts started to reap real respect and recognition, hence validation.
