@@bigtractorpower AGREED! But what I want is this video to be 1-2 hours long! 12 minutes is too short! I use video's like these to help me sleep. The roar of the motor, and the visual of the mowing is like a lullaby to me! MORE! :)
Doesn’t anyone still do traditional square bales? Back when I was a teenager helping on the farms of various relatives, a bale thrower was the height of sophistication!
Not often that you see a 2 wheel drive late model cab tractor now. That John Deere must be one of the 6R series that was tedding the hay. Always have some good videos to watch on this channel.
Great video Jason... I’ve ran a 7290R with a Pottengier butterfly mower. That was in the neighborhood of 35’-40’. What a mower that was.... I can mow roughly 250 acres per day.
Wow. I used to make hay when I was younger but I didn't spend two million dollars to do it. I would really like to see the numbers that this farmer works with. That would be very interesting. Maybe you could interview a John Deere salesman and see what we could learn.
He’s a dairy farmer not a hay salesman… cows will pay for it. You can cut 30 acres an hour with that triple mower alone, so I’m guessing he’s running a lot of acreage.
Best comment ever. As a WV boy that lived in NYC for a few years as a young professional, cut hay was one of the smells that i missed the most. They also say that smell is the sense that has the strongest link to memory which is why when you smell something (good or bad) it elicits a strong and immediate reaction. Dang that's a nice cut with the Claas! I don't think my "little" JD 5055e would pull it ;)
first cut! ~ we're lucky if we ever get 1! ..let alone something that thick and full ..that'd be heaven ...you should come film here and see what real struggling farmers go through
Man,do I wish I could get into a big flat field and run that triple! I've run mocos, and they are fun,but have never even seen a triple,in my neck of the woods,to many hills, and fields to small.
Great video! Always good to see, that there‘s more than corona all ovee! I planned to start in about 3,5 - 4 weeks cutting the first gras for silage. After 5 weeks without a single raindrop we have now the 4th day of rain! You can almost hear the gras growing now! 😃 Greetings from south tyrol, the northest part of italy Wolfgang
To bad there wasn't machinery like that when I was a boy helping my Granddad with his farm. That hay looks like it was excellent quality for any grazer to have in the coming months. Great video guys...
could someone explain or name me the advantages or these driveable/ pulled mowers? Nobody is using them here so thats for me the only way to gain this knowledge😅
nice mowing machine cuts good lots of hay there where is this and you feed it to the cows and put it in a pile and feed it out all the time with grain i used to have a farm and had lots of hay field, thanks for the video .
This dairy farm is near Russellville. There is a WKY plow day in Cadiz just off I-24 on Saturday October 5, 2024. It is held at the Cundiff farm. Your son might enjoy seeing all the plowing and tractors. It starts around 9 am and goes until noon.
So are they done growing hay on that field permanently? Wondering if they are just replenishing the soil with different crops? I live in in the city and have no concept. Wish I was a farmer.
Alfalfa lasts about 5 years. After that it thins out and is not productive. The farm will harvest this field one more time in June and then plant sorghum. Alfalfa helps fix nitrogen to the soil and enriches the soil. Next year wheat will be planted and soybeans will follow. Then corn will follow. Wheat/soybeans and corn will rotate on this field for a few years and then it will go back into alfalfa
I used to cut hay. We had a rotating mower that let down on the side. Kinda like the single in this video but no wheels. It was worn out by the end of summer and had cut part of the cover off of it. We did not have a cab tractor. It would sling cow shit all over the tractor, and you. .... but as much as you had to watch for rocks and other things to keep from tearing up the mower... I can’t imagine trying to mow with a mower like that on the front of ur tractor.
Victor Bonnast I think the weight is the main difference. They can be equipped differently and are therefore more suitable for certain jobs. the lightest tractor will have advantages in terms of handling and maneuverability, since it is probably smaller. but he can lift or pull less because the limits of the load capacity are reached earlier. neither will he be as strong as his heavier brothers. i'm not a john deere specialist, but i think that's how it will be. Greetings from south tyrol, the northest part of italy. Wolfgang
@@carmfarm5 No the triple mowers have flail conditioners too. Personally I'd figure it's just different strokes for different folks. The triples are a little faster but need a bigger tractor and cost more and also are far more complicated. The center pivot mower is much cheaper and doesn't need as much power and simpler, but is slower and lore awkward to mow with. Just have to decide what's best for your operation really.
Thank you sir for take the time to film these tractors. You deserve all 200k subscriber's

I think the nutritional value and increased milk yield of feeding silage is the reason. I remember this as well though!

We are still roughly a month out on our first cut as it still fairly cool weather here in Michigan.

Taking the test already but if I don't have money
that looks more like a silage operation rather than hay to me!

That dairy farmer must be south or east of me. There’s only one or two dairy farms left in my whole area. And they are fairly small operations.

Wolfgang is correct. It's sort of like small, midsize, and full size pickup trucks.
Is this the same farm that you have shown in years past using 3 and 4 different 946 mowers? Do they still use them just not all together anymore?
What’s the benefit of the moco vs running two triples, other than cost.
The MoCo mows and conditions (crimps) the hay so it dries faster. The other one just mows quite a bit quicker

What is the name of the farm in the video
Lots of hours chasing an old Farmall throwing bales on a flat trailer
Haying has changed a bunch. When I was growing up kick balers and pull type choppers were main steam.
