      Maybe an companion will help in my opinion, this only happens to me when I put her to sleep or wake up but she’s quiet most of the time because she has her best little buddy next to her, so she doesn’t feel alone or afraid to be by herself lol

    I had a NanSun for several years Sunny loved to dance. He could talk but you had to pronounce words as he was learning them. His favorite word was "What" but he didn't pronounce the "T" at the end. I ended up emphasizing the "T" at the end of the word. He eventually understood and if I did not pronoucd the "T" at the end he would come from wherever he was and climb up to tel me how to pronouce it. He would do this with just about anyone if they said what and didn't pronounce the "T" at the end. His favorite game at night after the lights were out was to growl. Who could growl the longest. He came up with that on his own. I would growl back and he would wait until I was done and he would try to out growl me. We went back and forth often before going to sleep. I am now geting a pure Sun Conure and I think Sunny helped prepare me for one. Thanks for the video. OH, sunny loved boxes. I would make boxes with various levels for him and cut holes all over for him to stick his head through. We woud play and he would go all through the box as if I had to find him. They are great girds.

    a tip to people who want a sun conure!! buy a tamed pet as they will probably be hand reared like this one in video so you can handle them straight out of box. if you buy a aviary bird it will take u maybe 1-2 years to get it to this level but remember you need to spend alot of time with it and also depends on the nature of the bird. and sun conure will NOT live around 25 years unless you feed them a balanced diet of fruits and seed. normally they live around 5-12 years just on nuts and seed. and finally if you want to get a another bird to accompany the sun dont get the same species as they will start ignoring you if you want a tamed bird. this is good if you work long hours as they will play with the other one. finally they are LOUD SCREAMERS!. i can hear my ones from outside my house and this may be bad for neighbours.

    To all those people wanting to get a bird
    (Please do research before owning ABY type of animal. There is no such thing as a "starter animal" or a "beginners pet"
    This applies for all types of birds
    If you are in school/work consider these things
    - Are you not gonna be around it for more than 8 hours?
    If yes then don't get one unless you get two or provide them with A LOT of toys or activities and people who can keep them company to keep them "social"
    If no and you will be home all the time after school/work hours then getting one is fine and toys can be moderate. Some in cages and some outside. Since you are around the bird you can keep it company and socialize with it. This way the bird will be happy and socialized so that it will not attack strangers or run from strangers (as in guests or friends)
    - Are you able to keep up with the birds costs?
    If no then don't try to even get one. Birds are costly and their vet bills are also expensive. Not to mention their cages, toys and food. Everything about owning a bird costs more than hundreds. Maybe you are able to moderately get everything but unless you can give them a proper life, don't get a bird.
    If yes then go ahead. When you first get the bird, get a checkup to ensure that they have no disease or problem. Provide lots of toys for enrichment. A cage bigger than their wingspan and proper foods such as pellets, seeds and fruits.
    Lastly, can you commit?
    Birds are a lifetime commitment. They bigger they are the longer they'll live. Are you gonna care for it for years to come?
    If no then please don't get one. There are so many birds up for adoption because people lose interest in them. Please don't buy on impulse because you think they are cute.
    When you get a pet, you do not own it. It owns you ;)

    sorry to be THAT guy. But 2 things to note. 1, those happy huts are death traps and are pointless. 2, having that fun on with him out is playing with fire. If he were to fly into that it could instantly kill him

    • @RedSoxChic193
      @RedSoxChic193  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheTriggerFingers I appreciate the concern but we're very conscious of potential safety issues for our bird. We don't keep anything with loose threads or anything that could be swallowed in his cage. We also keep his wings clipped, so when he tries to fly he can't do anything but flap to the floor.

    • @mattaki
      @mattaki 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      * If anyone has birds, they need to get rid of non-stick teflon cookware and ceiling fans. As we all find out the hard way sometimes, when we least expect it, clipped wings doesn't always mean they cannot fly!

    • @user-qp3pu5yv1e
      @user-qp3pu5yv1e 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You cannot fully bird proof any home so train your bird, do your research and don’t listen to trolls online. She’s had her bird 9 yrs. I think she knows what she’s doing....;)

    • @conuremom
      @conuremom 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I gasped when I saw the ceiling fan. I agree that the fan should not be on when the sun conure is outside the cage. No matter how careful you are even with wings clipped this is risky. My friend’s sun conure was injured by a ceiling fan. I have had my sun conure for 15 yrs and my rescued sun conure for 10 years and she is almost 18. Personally I wouldn’t have a ceiling fan on in my home.

    • @ehsaanyousef2273
      @ehsaanyousef2273 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-qp3pu5yv1e I agree! You cannot fully bird-proof a house, but you must try your best to. And train your bird to not go to or touch things that might be dangerous. I've had over 13 years of experience with birds and one thing I've learned is, disaster strikes when you least expect it. Coward man's right! These are hazardous things that I noticed as well. And even if you've had your bird for a long time, there's still plenty to learn! That's why I enjoy birds so much, you'll learn something new every day! That happy hut is not a good idea, and neither is keeping the fan on, plz do take our advice.

    Hi! Thank you for your video! My husband and I want to get a bird. We have always had parakeets but now we are looking into buying a bigger bird. We are looking for a cuddly bird. After doing some research we were determined on getting a sun conure since all the reviews said suns are known to be cuddly. However, we have been into a few bird fairs and every single person we have met have told us that the suns are too loud and the most returned bird 🙁 My husband now is not interested in a Sun. We are doing our homework before buying a bird because we want to make sure we give the bird the family it deserves. We know these birds can live for 30+ years so we want to be responsible. We never had children 😞 so this is going to be our forever baby 🤗 We are very excited!! I'm still in love with sun conures, my husband is in love with the other types of conures but now that I've been looking at videos and reviews about caiques I am falling in love with them....🙃 ah! Decisions!! What would you recommend us as new owners of a bigger bird? Which bird or birds do you think we should focus on?

      Makita Sakamura I own a sun conure and he used to scream a lot but if you start playing with it more it won't scream they are cute and fluffy birds they need a huge cage to play around if it's a baby buy some chewing toys for it and if it's 6 months then buy it some Hanging toys and some rope and give it apples 1-2 times a week they can speak but only words like kiss-kiss and something like cookie my bird is called cookie. but if you don't spend time with it they will become angry so don't buy it unless your home a lot

      Makita Sakamura Of course different birds may suit some families better than others, but in my opinion, many types of conures, as well as Quaker parrots, generally make good pets for owners who have never had larger birds or parrots before. It sounds like you're preparing and researching well so I'm sure whatever breed you choose will work out well for you!

    Our sun conures love nibbles are becoming aggressive seeming somehow. His feathers are coming in alot more and he's a month or so old. Hope it aint hormonal. Lil dudes been over the past few days becoming curious in the biting category. Like biting and tonging my finger. Its just nerve racking sometimes because how he looks when hes doing it. Sometimes he'll grip harder tho but, never to the point it actually hurts. He's only bit once painfully but, it wasnt me and it was after the family left for the day with him in the cage. He literally cried and bit my mom when she took him out. It was sad. Now he keeps opening his mouth and running towards me from his cage going at my nose. Not sure if its its something to worry about though because he aint tryna be aggressive when doing it. He just stumbles his way in my direction with his neck all stretched out tryna reach like he would to nibble my finger and do the weird licking thing or something. Its just he's so young I ain't sure if he's gonna suddenly start becoming mean or something and these are signs 😭 need to stop him while he's young if so

  • @belle369

    Dear RedSox,
    I have a 4 month old sun conure, and I love her to death. My whole family does. We all thought that we knew everything about these birds, and did our research about them. But in the morning, it seems to be a problem. She squawks and squawks like crazy! It starts at about 8 am and doesn’t stop till I take her out. It’s the summer so I don’t have school, so that means I spend lots of time with her, but that also means I sleep in. Not too late though. I think I’ve made a mistake with taking her out when she squawks, so I’m trying to correct that. But my family can’t stand it. My little sister goes and eats breakfast in her bedroom, and my dad has to go in his office to watch tv, because he can’t watch it in the living room. My mom even takes her out of the cage in the morning sometimes to stop her from making noise. My dad is at his wits end, and he says he can’t stand having that thing squawking when he is at work (he works from home) or in a meeting, and he could get fired. I love my bird with all my heart, but I don’t think things are going to turn out well. My dad feels bad for buying me the bird, because we have bonded, and now we might have to get rid of her if this still keeps going on. We’ve tried many different methods like putting a blanket of the cage, and not taking her out when she squawks, but nothing is working! We live in a very hit state, and he said that he will start putting her outside (with the cage) in the mornings, and it’s REALLY hot! Do you have any advice on how to get her to stop squawking? I don’t want to get rid of her, but we might have to.

      I am a year late, I might not help you at all, but just don't be scared. It doesn't hurt, sun conures can cut your skin, but minimally. I have sun conures for years, they never bit me hard enough for me to actually cringe from pain, unless i grabbed them (selling reasons). Most of the times when they do bite, they are just showing their confidence - they grab your finger or grab and squeeze, then it hurts a little, but not more than a bee sting. It's just a second of happening. After that it doesn't hurt at all. Also, you can learn something about their body language and biting, one example, if they wanna bite, they open their eyes widely and press their feathers to skin.

    • @RedSoxChic193
      @RedSoxChic193  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If at all possible, bring your bird over to the home she'll be staying at a few times before you leave. That way it won't be an entirely new and strange environment when she goes to stay there, and you can reduce some of the stress on her. Bringing LOTS of toys for her to play with is also a good idea. And even if she won't be let out a lot, have the person watching her be around and talk to her as much as possible. Social interaction even through the bars of a cage is much better than no socialization.
      I hope everything works out well!

      @ehsaanyousef2273 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RedSoxChic193 not to make you feel bad but you realize that people can see when a bird's flight feathers are clipped and when they aren't! Your conure's flight feathers (primaries) are fully grown in, therefore your bird can fly really well. And even if your bird had been clipped (which he isn't, unless he was given a professional clipping) the fan still shouldn't be on. It's common knowledge among bird keepers that a clipped bird can still fly, and they can fly pretty well!
      I'm definitely not trying to be rude! Just be careful, I don't want your beautiful boy to get hurt!

    • @ehsaanyousef2273
      @ehsaanyousef2273 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      also two more remarks, please DO NOT use those "happy" or "snuggle huts" in your bird's cage. Conures especially love them, but don't be fooled! Your bird can easily chew the threads and get strangled in them, or even get suffocated! And the tragedy is that most owners never even notice their bird is in danger before it's too late, search it up there's tons of horrific stories.
      And 2. is that please for the mental sake of your bird, don't clip them. I do not think you need to clip a bird's wings. I dislike the terms, "I only do it to keep them safe" and "the feathers will grow back". Train that bird to only go in places that are safe, work with it, teach it to come back when called, bird-proof your house. If you can't/don't have the time to do that, then why do you have a bird? Having a parrot companion should not only be enjoyable for you but your companion too, there should be a balance. You must realize that this creature is a bird, they need to have some sort of flight exercise in a large area. The feathers may grow back, but what most people don't understand is that these creatures are extremely intelligent. They can have anxiety, depression will hold grudges, they get frightened easily, and can/will feel vulnerable if they can't fly. Flying is their only defense. You have to remember that, inherently, this animal is wild. Those feathers may grow back, but the mental damage that the clipping caused, won't.
      Again, these are just things I noticed, people will disagree with me. And I think you're very knowledgable and helpful! and I don't want to offend you.

These birds require so much attention that if not given, they'll actually learn to screech and chirp so loudly, that you'll do anything to shut them up. If you want peace and quiet in your home, this bird is not for you. Their screech has been measured almost 100db.
    It will eventually get into your soul and you'll be wondering how long will it continue to make noise? At least 25 years! Did I mention don't get this bird? Unless you're in it for the long haul. I'm living this right now and she's only 14. Heed my warning! By the way, this bird is loved and cared for. Food, water, toys, regular vet visits, interaction. But when it's not enough for her, the wrath is unleashed in a fury of unhinged screeching. Did I mention don't get this bird?
