Why wash the organs in the mortuary?

  • In this video mortician/embalmer Tracy explains the reasons she would need to wash the viscera, or internal organs in the mortuary - it's not something done for everybody, and for good reason - often the organs remain in situ because there is no need to remove them. And when there is a reason, it's never Tracy that removes the organs.
    It's an interesting and sometimes confronting part of mortuary work - to hold someone's heart or brain in your hands, but it's a job that sometimes needs to be done.
    Thanks for all of your comments of support - we love hearing from you.

    Dead bodies organs and blood does not bother me but feces absolutely will make me profusely ill. It takes a lot to do what you do and then I realize now that you have to get rid of the feces! Tere's a lot of intestines & there's a lot of feces. How you do that I have no idea but I have even more respect for you now. You are a special kind of person indeed and thank God you have a strong stomach right? Not me!

      Hi Colleen, I too hate poo 🤢 it's the one thing I struggle with at work. Thank goodness I only have to remove the feces when I am embalming an autopsy case. And as we don't do much embalming here in Queensland Australia it's not very often at all. All other preparation of bodies do not need this done. Thank you take good care 💚💚

    Thank you Tracey for being very caring about your clients who need care when they come to you. I don't think too many people understand how much you have to know in order to take care of deceased clients. I think it will help people who really didn't know understand not only WHAT you do, but they will also understand that you are very respectful of their deceased loved ones if they come into your care. Thank you for sharing. I enjoy your videos and learning from you.

    Why are the body parts put in a bag? Why not just put them back inside the cavity??? A black trash bag doesn't belong inside a body.... that just seems so wrong to put someone's organs in a trashbag and sew it up inside them

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It may look like that but it's a slightly different kind made for this reason. This is how we receive the deceased body back from the autopsy (as we are a funeral home and don't do autopsy here, that's a whole different department nothing to do with a funeral home) but we need to care for that body if any leaks need to be stop or to be embalmed.
      Take care x

    • @ElizabethLizziBennett33
      @ElizabethLizziBennett33 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Areyoudyingtoknow thank you for responding to me, I completely understand that you're trying to keep the body from leaking, or purging. I understand what you're saying, and why it's being done, I guess I just have a personal issue with organs being placed all together into a bag and sewn up into the body cavity. Seeing what's done, I don't want to have an autopsy done. It's just extremely upsetting. Personally, I find it offensive. I had no idea that after an autopsy that's how they package you up & send you off. So if you're cremated you've got a plastic bag melting into your remains? Would it be extremely difficult or inconvenient to place the organs back into the body into roughly the correct area, not reattach them, but place the ones where possible back where they belong? That would be more respectful I think than leaving them in a bag in your abdominal cavity.
      I love your posts. I've learned so much. I am so glad I stumbled upon your channel! You both a great! Very personable and inviting! Great job! Thank you again for responding to my comment. You've got a fan in Providence, Rhode Island USA

      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, thank you for your kind words ☺️
      In an ideal world putting the body back the way it was would be good unfortunately it's not possible at all. The reason is, at the autopsy the organ are dissected somethimes into small pieces. So the easiest way to keep all the organs together is in a sealed bag, so one, nothing goes missing and fluid is contained. I get what you say it does look the best but it is the safest and caring way we can keep the person as one 💚
      Take good care out in beautiful Rhode Island USA 😊💚

      @Areyoudyingtoknow I understand better now, I had a completely distorted understanding at what actually took place during an autopsy, I was under the impression that a small sample was taken, but clearly I was completely misinformed. Hi, no the organs won't bloat because they have been embalmed also. So when I embalm an autopsy case I removed the organs from the bag and place them into a container full of Embalming chemical where they sit for up to 4 hours. Then I rinse them and place them back into the body cavity. Thank you for your question take care 😊💚

    A little bit off subject, but kinda along the lines of not throwing away any of the parts and pieces. We have a very current case just broke open here, not involving a mortuary but a facility where bodies were donated for research. Anyway, a few select individuals had an operation going where they were selling off bits and bobs of the donated bodies. Black market of course and obviously not what the deceased had intended for the use of their bodies

I'm only saying that I didn't even know that morticians have to clean organs like this post autopsy. This is where I think I couldn't. Thank you for reading comments. Hugs from London! ❤

    Where does the name viscera come from? I’ve never understood the name 🥰🥰🥰🥰🫣🫣 xxxxxxxxx

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว

      The word "viscera" comes from Latin, where it originally meant "internal organs." In Latin, "viscera" is the plural form of "viscus," which refers to the internal organs of the body. Over time, the term "viscera" has come to specifically refer to the organs located within the abdominal cavity, such as the stomach, liver, intestines, and kidneys.
      Hope that helps ☺️💚
