I created the Vaniverse Gaming Channel in 2014 because I was having trouble figuring out how to do something in Elder Scrolls Online. I decided to make my first How to Guide on Lockpicking, and really enjoyed the experience.
The goal of my channel to create honest, informative, and hopefully entertaining videos on PC video games. My main focus is to create content that helps new players decide to purchase a game or figure out how to do something in a game that may be hard to understand.

Early on I tend to stick with Hyenas cause I like the Cripple that they add. If you have Rank 2 Strength, then that Cripple adds 25% damage to your attacks.
Also, don't carry spare animals in your inventory. WAY too much weight. Store them in your animal that is following you. If it dies, you can retreive it's inventory and pop down another animal.
I also raise Gazelle in the beginning because they're basically Bearers. They have 2000+ HP and 20 inventory slots as opposed to 5 for thralls, 10 for Hyenas, and 15 for Bearers. I bring a Gazelle if I'm farming and a Greater Hyena for everything else.
Greater Hyena's have the same HP value as Greater Shalebacks. I believe all the Greater versions of animals have the same HP.
Interesting ideas, the cripple debuff though is a 50% movement speed reduction, not a damage boost.
Although it's not an early game pet are you thinking of a wolf's Sunder debuff, which removes armour and allows your attacks to do massive damage?
@@devilsadvocate1597 The second rank of Strength gives 25% extra damage if the enemy is effected by a status chance. It's not Cripple that increases your damage, it's Rank 2 Strength bonus perk WHILE the enemy is Crippled, Bleeding, Sundered, Poisoned, whatever.

Every time I watch your guides it just makes me want to play the game for raiding content, perhaps if NW doesn't work out I will sink some serious actual time in to trying some series. Keep going.

You can also get grubs (up to 50 of them) from compost boxes.
What do you put in the box to get the fat grub?
@@cybpr8957 Fiber, Putrid Flesh/Meat, and Bonemeal. I prefer to place the cooked fish from my ichor cooking and let it degrade into spoiled meat. The compost created from those will attract fat grubs.
@hyper_noob, you have to make compost in the box. plant fiber + bone meal+ putrid meat, or plant fiber + dung makes compost. As long as you have compost in the heap, it will generate fat grubs. Cheers!

I love bears, they come into play kinda late game and are the bane of my life to fight, but using honey in pens gives a 20% greater bear chance and they tend to tear through anything and everything they come in contact with. Not to mention just how easy it is to get honey.

I'm playing on an official PVP server and the shellfish traps never need bait for me, still fills up with exotic shellfish
I play on official, and my traps had fish in them. As soon as I took all the fish out they now require bait. Cheers!
@@VaniverseGaming This is a known bug (pardon the pun). If you craft new fish traps, place them and never put insects or bugs in them they should start catching fish without them again. This can also occur sometimes due to server resets. They are supposed to catch random fish without bugs and specific fish with certain bugs.
I play on official servers also. The fish traps do not need bait for me. The only thing bait does is allow me to catch more of that certain fish the bait was intended for.Also according to the feed charts, desert berries are shalebacks food of choice.

I actually got the small percentage and got Biggie Smash with just grass..but this video did help me out when I started on a new server

same percentage just using desert berries. Just pick them on noob riverbank. It's the small bush, tons of them north side at the bottom of the mountain)

The king kappa is my favorite pet as well. I was using this trick that I would get the babies close to where a wild king kappa is and I was getting a lot of king kappas as pets, but I think they have fix that in a recent update, because I have not been getting them lately even from grabbing those babies close to the wild king kappa. I also have this new problem that my pets or thralls don't teleport when following even into a dungeon.

Another great early pet is hyenas. Fast, causes cripple and are also plentiful just across the southern river.

I've found greater hyenas are also really easy to get, but the shalebacks have better armor and are better tanks. They attack slowly, but the attacks are devastating. The hyenas rip stuff up fast. I also had better luck with getting greater hyenas, but that might just be RNG.
What do you feed the baby hyena to grow into a greater one?
@@cybpr8957 Supposed to be feral flesh, but I've had luck with human flesh and savory flesh as well.

@@cybpr8957 Yep. I think Van said it takes six hours. It's a long time. I think the lower level the pen, the longer it takes.

Maybe the latest patch nerfed this a little bit, as when i was using a medium pet tamer pens, with shellbacks and giving them the lobsters, the regular ones had 170 HP. And the two greater shellbacks that I have gotten has only a max of 3200 HP. dont think i messed up the taming as I did exactly what was done here.
I know that made some changes to things, but I did not know they nerfed greater pets health? I will have to look into this one. Cheers!
why my greater shaleback is 2k hp and not 8k ?
This video was made before you had to level thralls. Now to get 8k I believe you need to get specific perks as they level up through to 20. Cheers!
Also from level 1 you can hand pick Desert Berries (from the small brownish-green leafy plants by the river's edge) they also give the same 10% chance of a greater 🐢

Its now 2020.. Went out put 5 in, 3 out of 5 hatched greaters.. But hp were only 2600 not 8000 hp. Had mine running around with me for the day got him to level 5 ended up i think 3200 hp... Had a scorpion world boss pop up outside my base during a purge. Kited the boss scorpion to my base where I had about 10 thralls attacking him, including a frost giant, elephant, rhino that someone before me had and base decayed. So in total 13 thralls attacking world boss. End result frost giant dead, rhino dead, 6 thralls dead including my greater shaleback, and 3 other shalebacks. So he does not work for tanking a world boss anymore. But hey I got my first key..
You have to level up your thralls now. Before they came out 8000HP now you have to level them to 20 to get that kind of HP. Cheers!
Does it work the same way with lv 4 thralls? They take so long to break!!!!! Was wondering if better food brakes them faster and if so what would be the best
Vaniverse used server settings to speed up the animal training time for the video.
As to your question of food on Wheels, the only differance is the spoil rate for the food.
The only way to speed up thrall breaking is to use as high a tier Taskmaster on the wheel as you can get. Purge ones give 300% speed boost!

Update 2021: the pets no longer have 8000+ hp reduced down to 2350, I cooked 20 got 3 Greaters, all exactly the same specs, and all with the same health.
Yes, You have to level them up now. At dfferent levels they get different perks and by 20 you could have one with 8K+ hp, but not at level 1 anymore. Cheers!

@@VaniverseGaming Cheers, big bastard is still alive and well. Got through me through mid game confortably. Lucked out again and got poison daggers from archive, which is great when you have a tank like that.
Bait?? Wow! I was just thinking the other day - this game just isn’t grindy enough!! We could really do with some MORE GRIND!! Nothing like waking up with QWERTY written backwards on your forehead!!!
Get a compost pile the grubs just spawn in there till 50 are stacked aslong as 1 compost is in the box
Most survival games are grindy. It is kind of the point of them. However, I can say if you do not get thralls, and are by yourself it can feel like too much of a grind. Cheers!
what do you think is the best Higher level pet to get in the late game?
Greater Wolf by far for their move-set and Sunder status infliction.
The Locust Queen is by far the best pet in the game in my opinion for PvE. For PvP I love Sabertooth Tigers. Cheers!
@@VaniverseGaming Van is right, Queen is stronger than Dire Wolves, but she's just so unwieldy. HUUUUGE, bitch. Wolves are just more manageable.
Nerfed mine is max level with 6000 health.
This was before the leveling system existed for followers. back in the day, they did not level up. CHeers!
Why is it on xbox I always have to get hit for him to do anything..? Are they better on Pc?
You don't have to get hit. You can also attack to trigger their agro.

You can pick your hairstyle at the beginning, but cannot change it after that. However, this has been requested a ton and will be added to the game in the future. It has already been said by Funcom, but no date on when that will happen. Cheers!
Every greater pet ive made has same hps, so are they all the same other than their attacks?
Greater Animal HP is always the same. The only difference is whatever the animals moveset is and the status they apply with their attacks. Wolves and felines are the "best" (I use that loosely) because they do Bleed/Sunder and they have movesets where they dodge while attacking.

Oh boi if u get the the wastw box or whatevwr its caller u can turn rotten meat and stuff u need into essentially a lifetime supply of fat grubs like 50 per 3 compost made idk. Ivw gotten plenty od exotic fish its not even funny I treated it likw somw sort of commodity. Didnt know it had a higher chance at turninf ur pwt into a greater. Now I'm gonna go farm compost

On Xbox you can't loot other people's stuff in PVE

Can you really steal animals out of animal pens on a PvE server?
I read a couple peoples comments and they say you cannot. I do nto play on PvE servers, but was told one time you could. I was wrong I guess based on new comments. Cheers!
