    I just went to look, at the humane society, and adopted our lovely dog Bo. Yup. We were loved by her for 18 years, so ya, worth the look. Have a blessed day and keep on with your sewing journey. So worth it!

      I read this too early this morning and I'm thinking "she must've replied to the wrong person" - and then I realized. Yeah - I've learned a lesson. Ha! I've also been there, done that. And now we've had Bingley for 9 years. But 18 years?!?!?! WOW! That's a long life!

    Just like any other skill, sewing does get easier the more you do it. Maybe I shouldn't speak for others, but I suspect most of us have had moments where we were *NOT* enamored with a project and needed a nap or a time out or a fire pit in the back yard. I've been sewing for what seems like forever and yet I still tend to sew my garments extra roomy. I think the reason I do that is because I can always sew larger seam allowances to take it in, but I can't add fabric if it's too small. And a large comfy garment can't be beat for days at home.
    I'm not really an animal print person. I did once paint a sheet to have a cow print on it and made a dress to wear to Chick-fil-A back when they used to give away sandwiches when you came in a cow costume. Even though my husband thought it was silly, it actually was a pretty dress. That same day I was standing in line in the grocery store and a little girl who was about 9 told me how much she loved my dress. That little girl was such a gift from the Lord. I really needed an affirmation that day and to have her admire my dress was such a blessing. It's too small for me now, otherwise I would still wear it just to remember that sweet little girl.

    • @thesewingpastorswife
      @thesewingpastorswife  ปีที่แล้ว

      I need to take both of those raglans in - because I love them both!
      I remember those CFA giveaway days - I never participated because I thought I didn't like CFA. WHAT?!?!?! What I finally realized was I didn't like the fries - but then I realized it was because they were never salty enough so long-story-short, I love CFA now and I'd dress like a cow in a second. Haha.
      What a sweet little girl! God is so good!

    I've been sewing all my life and I'm 62 now. I think just about every pattern has a head scratching moment in it for me. Some are worse than others. When I get stuck, I put everything away as soon as it happens, before I can get frustrated, and leave it for the day. Then I pick it up the next sewing day and do one line of the instructions at a time without looking ahead, and that usually works for me. If that doesn't work, I move ahead to see the outcome, and read the steps one at a time in reverse order, deconstructing it in my head and I can usually figure out what they are wanting me to do.

    • @thesewingpastorswife
      @thesewingpastorswife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stepping away has definitely helped. And looking just one instruction at a time is such a good idea - it will keep it from feeling overwhelming. Thanks for watching!

    Oh, yes, bless your heart... I've had sewing experiences like that! It's all for the good and the time is still profitable. As soon as you said said you went into Joann's "just to look" I knew better
    I suffer from the same malady. 😂 Thanks for sharing! Have a blessed week.❤

      Why is it so easy to fool ourselves?!?!?! Probably because, for me at least, deep down I knew I was going to come home with something. And it WAS on sale.

  • @michellelemesurier3106
    @michellelemesurier3106 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good for you for pushing through .. I've learnt that even though it may not be perfect.. you learn a little bit with each make.. and yes it does get better 😊.. 2 years ago it would have taken me a few days to sew a T-shirt.. and this week I sewed up a T-shirt and some shorts for my husband in an afternoon.. I try to sew in max 2-3 hour blocks.. this way I don't get too frustrated and I can set the project aside and possibly rethink how I'm going do something.. also because I don't usually follow the pattern instructions exactly..I usually go rogue somewhere with my own ideas..😅

    • @thesewingpastorswife
      @thesewingpastorswife  ปีที่แล้ว

      I kinda wish I'd gotten fabric to immediately make another one so I don't forget what I learned while making. And then the other part of me is like "MOVE ON!" Haha. I'm ready to sew another Laundry Day tee since I feel more confident with that and I know I will wear it all the time. So many things on my list!!! But that's what makes it fun!

  • @kerriekean7401
    @kerriekean7401 ปีที่แล้ว

    Loved this chatting time with you! I can relate to the frustration of not understanding the instructions! I have limited time to sew also and often I think to myself 'I'm going to get 'x' done but like you I don't understand the instructions, or even worse I do some sewing only to find I made a silly mistake like sewing the right side of one piece to the wrong of another piece! Then of course, my
    sewing time finishes and now I have to unpick and re sew it, BUT I am determined I am not letting the frustration stop me from sewing!
    You did a good job on the bodice-it looks so well done! Hope your next sewing session if more positive. Have a great week!

      Thank you! And yesterday I was able to work on the skirt/pockets. I have 2 steps left before I join the bodice and skirt! (And don't look too closely at that bodice. Haha.)

    • @kerriekean7401
      @kerriekean7401 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well done!! What a great feeling to start to get somewhere! If something is finished (and doesn't have right and wrong sides joined, lol) then I never look too closely! I just rejoice that it looks vaguely like what it's supposd to look like! Which your bodice does!

    I loved ❤️❤️your blog. I recommend the Plantain Tee from Deer and Doe.👍🏻The drafting allows for swing at the hips but not overwhelming. The bust is roomy no FBA needed. I found the bicep to be tight so check that. Bonus the pattern is free!Looking forward to seeing what you make out of your pretty fabric. ❤🧵

    I love your personality and your videos! I started sewing when I was 10 and I am now 58. I have lots of experience with Simplicity & McCall’s patterns. Within the last few years I have purchased digital handbag, quilt, and clothing patterns which seem more complicated than my old stand by Simplicity and McCall’s, but it may be my older brain. Lol. I just made Love Notions Rhapsody yesterday. I was a bit overwhelmed by 80 + pages of directions after I downloaded it. Thank goodness the Lord made it clear to me while sewing it.

      I so enjoyed your video and keep up the sewing as it gets easier with practice. I’m 77 and haven’t sewn in 40 years until Covid came and now I’m loving it and all that goes alone with it. I have done about 6 of Tilly and the buttons Stevie tops and can make them now without even trying on. The hardest part is to get your fit but once you’ve achieved that it’s all plain sailing. Sending positive vibes from Ireland 🇮🇪 😊

      Hi Sue. I am a fellow Victoria, Australia sewist so I just wanted to say 'Hi'. I also learned to sew at secondary school and I have always tried to have some sewing project on the go. I also find some patterns a bit overwhelming-I do appreciate TH-cam as someone somewhere usually has a video showing how to do what I am struggling with! Enjoy your sewing times, Kerrie

      I made the UGLIEST dress in home ec in the 9th grade. I didn't think it was ugly at the time but looking back - what was I thinking? I wish I'd paid better attention in that class, though! I do wish I still had that dress, just to see how I did. I don't think a picture of it exists.

      Hello Kerrie, thanks for your message. TH-cam sewing vlogs have been a fantastic addition for my sewing.
      Like you, somebody has an answer or a suggestion to help. Our stories of how we started sewing are almost identical. I had the opportunity to tell my sewing teacher at a school reunion a few years ago, how she started my love for sewing & how it has continued on. I mainly sew for myself now that our kids have grown up, although they do ask if I can mend their clothes every now & then! Lovely to hear from you. 😊

    You are a lot of fun! I'm glad you didn't let one difficult pattern get you down! I still feel like a beginner sometimes and I've been sewing on and off for 39ish years, only sewing garments for about 2. Yesterday I finally got to sew, tried to make a simple faux leather zipper pouch and it was a total disaster....don't know if it was me, or the machine, but yea.... As for the question I guess I'd say Leopard, and definitely in Knit (DBP💖)!

    Hi Candace!!! So pleased to meet you but you need to get yourself some legs 😂🦵🏼🦵🏼 I find a mannequin useful mostly for doing neck bands and things, I never use it for the fit .I really like that raglan top you are wearing, those colours look great together so not surprised you are happy wearing it. Oh I do love DBP as well but my supply is running low and I don't have a trip to your Country planned until next March! I can't believe you did a lined bodice, I am not surprised you struggled with that, wow well done! Re the animal print question, I am old fashioned and in our Country it tends to be a certain type of woman that wears animal prints, I am not a fan I will admit. I do have a t shirt that I made that borders on animal print but I feel really sassy when I wear it, that isn't me at all 😂. Give me flowers any day 🌸🌸. Thanks for a lovely video xx

    • @thesewingpastorswife
      @thesewingpastorswife  ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely love my flowers. I just have the hardest time envisioning how prints will look in whatever pattern I'm thinking about and I spend way too much time making decisions.

    Hi there! So nice to meet you!! I can relate so much to what you said about sewing instructions. I get so confused with patterns. I also have to make a few pattern adjustments and I think that all takes some practice. I am not new to sewing but I still consider myself a novice because I am always learning something new. Loved visiting with you this morning; enjoyed the chat! By the way, can anyone just look at fabric and not buy anything? I don't know. That sure isn't me!! LOLOLOL... Have a good one!

    • @thesewingpastorswife
      @thesewingpastorswife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice to meet you! I've definitely learned that telling myself I'm just looking so I can be inspired is NOT going to work for me. LOL!

    • @DebsWay

      I did a major de-stashing in my fabric a year or so ago and, at that time, I told myself that I was never going to have so much fabric on hand like that again. So far, so good. Now I just have to tell myself to get busy sewing; I have so many things I want to sew!

  • @karenegan2640

    The number of people who complain about their lack of instructions, you would think they would do something about it. I struggled with this dress too.

      @thesewingpastorswife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad it's not just me! But I think if I make it again, it will go MUCH faster. It makes sense now that I've done it. The key will be not waiting too long before I try again. Ha!

  • @dianewilliams7931
    @dianewilliams7931 ปีที่แล้ว

    While I watched your video today I, too, was wrestling with a Style Arc pattern. This is the second one of theirs that I have made and they have both given me pause when I got confused.. Their instructions are minimal. I've found that it's imperative that you refer back to your pattern piece to check for instructions written on there. Also, pay strict attention to the diagrams in the instructions so you're sure you know if you should be working on the right side or wrong side of the piece. And I have three more projects planned using Style Arc patterns. What was I thinking?!!! Keep up the perseverance. You'll get there.

    • @thesewingpastorswife
      @thesewingpastorswife  ปีที่แล้ว

      I traced out the patterns from my printed PDF - I didn't even notice what the pattern pieces said. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I only transferred the basic info. That might've been part of my problem . . . note to self for next time. There are a couple more Style Arc patterns that I'd like to make so that's a helpful tip!
