    Being contracted seems better for a beginner and to gain experience. Then, transition into independent. Just to be safe!

    Thank you for the info! I was in a zoom meeting today with a travel agency that was an MLM. I don't have an issue with MLMs because I do have my own non travel business with one, but the monthly fees with this travel opportunity turned me off. When I was in high school, you needed to go to business school to learn the travel industry. The school that spoke to my class is now defunct, and I'm learning the industry has definitely changed since those days, so I appreciate coming across your videos while I do some research.

    Im currently part of a host company, how difficult is it to switch and work for yourself? I don’t receive enough training to become a successful travel agent as they are more focused on marketing. If I am essentially doing all the work I want to receive all of my commission and not split it with anyone.

      Yes, you can transfer from a host to becoming independent. You’ll want to check your current agreement that is in place with your host, but since COVID caused a booking decline a lot of our Careers on Vacation clients are working with us to navigate that exact transition. 🦋

    Is it possible to do your hybrid geared course as part time? Your full course takes 3 months, but how much weekly/daily time is involved to complete it?

    We are a husband and wife team, leaning towards independent right now. We are already an established pop culture collectible resale brand and have offered trips through an affiliating agency with decent commissions but want to be able to offer packages directly to theme parks and pop culture destinations

    Thank you for info very helpful, if you independent travel agent do you need iata to book resorts?

    • @wanderlustceo
      @wanderlustceo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jenya, Yes, you need the right credentials to book for your clients. When you are just starting out, it is easiest to use your hosts but if you have launched independently you'll need your CLIA or IATA but you'll want to review the requirements for each.

    I've been considering travel for sometime. My issue is I'm an introvert and typically stay away from social media. My BA was internet marketing so I understand the importance of social marketing ans social media in building your business.
    That makes me anxious. I'm also quite anxious about how I will find clients and such.

    Hi Cyndi, I love your videos. I was wondering if I can ask you a question. I live in Canada and I just made the decision to become a travel agent with the intention of signing on with a very large and well-known hosting agency. I have no experience at all with selling travel but absolutely LOVE travelling, even as a solo travel . My question is...would you consider 40/60 to be a decent commission split - with 40% going to me and 60% going to the host agency? I would also have to pay $18/month for fees. I'm not interested in starting my own agency as I'm going to be retiring in 10 years. Thank you in advance.

      Hi Teena! Thanks so much for reaching out! Great question. I would not recommend joining a host with that low of a commission split. You should be getting at LEAST 60/40. I would suggest checking out your other options as a lot of other hosts may be able to offer you a better commission split. As for the monthly fee, that is pretty standard considering you are using their booking credentials to book travel for your clients. Most agencies will have either a yearly or monthly fee. I hope that helps!
