Do you expect Boox to participate in the black Friday sales? From my limited search it appears they don't, the only difference being that buying through Amazon vs direct you get free extras.
Hi Kit, i got the Go 10.3 after much deliberation, had been holding out so long for the supernote A5X2, wish i had got it earlier when you first started coming out with the reviews. that being said i forgot to use your affiliate link! :( is there anyway you can run this through to boox so that you get something from it? im sure if i let you know my order number then would suffice?
No, I think most people really like the Go 10.3 look. But it has objectively less hardware and is a less robust build, so therefore correctly cheaper. 🙂
I have the 3c and 4c and I am surprised no one speaks about the slow Notes performance on the 4c compared to the 3c. It takes ~3 seconds for the "AI" features to respond on the 4c and the 3c is
I don't really use the ai features - is the slowness noticeable in other places? The only thing I really care about is straight writing notes, and annotating epubs, and navigating back and forth between pages.
Thanks for the review, Kit! I am considering buying the boox 10.3 or the Supernote A5X2 for work (the RMPP is too large for me). I don’t love the way the manta looks (plastic construction makes it look cheap in a work setting imo), but I have to ensure everything stays local. Does the Boox have to connect online or can I keep all my info local? And if I do keep it local, can I still import Kindle books through USB? Thanks again!
Argh I'm so torn. I used to draw a lot of notes on my Surface book 2, until the battery broke. I used a lot of colour. But on the other hand, the Go 10.3 looks so much nicer and brighter!
All I really want is the 10.3 with an illuminated screen. Wishlist would include a slightly more powerful processor, better refresh, and micro sd - but if all I got was screen illumination I would be content.
Maybe they could take more from penstar, remove the touch layer, and replace it with a front light layer. Then perhaps you could have a go and a go +. The plus trades the touch layer for a front light, the tablet would only be able to be used with the stylus
Looking on the golbal e-inks market devices, in my opinion, e-inks shine in B/W screens while in Color it is Mah... Not yet there. Even if you are buying B/W only to use with Onenote, it is still better option then color e-inks devices. If you need color devices, buy Samsung or Apple tablet devices.
I'm having a hard time deciding between these two devices. I really love the 10.3's look without the backlight display and the cheaper price make it very appealing, but I've been watching short video lectures so I think the option to go split screen and have the video on one side and notes on the other would be a great workflow. It seems like the Air 4C has the refresh and cpu capability to do that so I'm leaning towards getting that one, but if it's at all possible to do that with the 10.3, I think that may be the better option for me. Does anyone have a video showing how video playback on the 10.3 looks?
I wavered between these two for a while and ultimately thought the best one for my use case was the 10.3. It arrived today, but my first impression is that the screen is too dark in the average room and lighting to read comfortably. Does the 4 c feel easier to read on? This is my first eink writing tablet, but I’ve been a kindle fan/user since gen1 (which I also found to be a bit dark… but I was a lot younger then!)
Hi Kit Love your TH-cam Looking to buy an Onix. Just looking to replace all my notbooks so i can organize and find my notes faster. Locationally while working at rhe shop, it is handy to take a picture, weite on it and share it with the team or my clients. Will I be able to do that with the Go 10.3 or should i upgrade to the air 4 c or even the tab ultra c? I don't necessarily need to take the picture with the table. I have my phone for that. We can ignore the price, budget is not an issue. Thanks a bunch!
My challenge Kit. Is that i would like a tablet that I am able to take notes while I'm listening to my Audible books or while I'm doing my online courses. So this will mean splitting the screen. The question is do I go for an E-Ink like the Boox note 4C or do I go for something like the Samsung Tab S9+ (because I have a Samsung S22 phone, rather than opt for an Mac based iPad)?
Curious on your thoughts, Kit--if we're still looking for a paper replacement and don't want the extra apps and potential distractions, what's your pick for the best? Still loving the channel and the deep dives you've given us--appreciate your continued work!
Boox confirmed on reddit that the go 10.3 will get firmware 4.0. Loving the battery life - I charge at the weekend and it sits on my desk next to my mouse all week without fuss. Transparent screensaver leaves the current daily task list visible even when in sleep mode but my sleep is set to several hours so during work hours it is usually awake
How do you find the standard pen, nibs and case? I see people saying the standard pen isn't good, any potentially getting titanium/ceramic nibs, and that they wish the case was like the nac4 case where you can stand it up vertically. I'd use mine the same as you, bare and sits on the table all week so not too bothered about the case, that is just to protect it when it is in a bag
@@ozwin2like many things, people get distracted by shiny new toys. Basic pen is fine but - it’s a basic pen. One thing I was wary of is some comments that the nibs wear down quite fast. I bought from Amazon so no spare nibs. So I’ve bought a lamy al-star pen which feels nice (pc/el nib) and am also trying some kindle scribe nibs in the lamy - they just swap over they’re a standard size. Not something you’ll need to worry about immediately but might be something you want to update as it’s in your hand a lot
@ozwin2 I am using titanium nibs with standard pen. It's smoother to write than normal nibs. Unless u r not doing sketches, titanium nibs are better. Saves the hassle of replacing nibs.
I have both I really wish 10.3 had a light. I just really love a light so I tend to use the scribe more. but 10.3 has a lot to offer depends on your needs
Can You Guys help me? Assume that we have the same Boox account in every Boox model. Do notes written in new Boox models (for example Note 4C) can be synchronized with older models (for example Note Air 1)? And what is more important, can You open end edit them?
Totally random: unlike my Kindle Scribe it seems my 4C adds the screen texture through a screen protector on glass as opposed to being integrated. This makes me wonder what to do if that screen protector detaches over time or gets damaged… Boox do not sell replacements…
Yeah, that's a problem, but also a benefit as you can technically replace the protector and it protects the screen. I have a Boox NA2+ for 2 years and started seeing degradation of the protector, so looking into options. AtFoliX seem to have something promising, and also maybe Healing Shield? Hopefully Boox will start selling theirs, but if not... Good news is that it doesn't peel.
My use case is mostly notetaking and annotating PDFs. but I do want at least a decent experience in writing and editing Google Docs via a Bluetooth keyboard. I’m leaning towards the 10.3, but want to make sure that I have at least a decent experience on Google Docs. Does anybody have any experience with this?
I would like to go for the Go because of many things, but the lack of sd-card reader and fingerprint lock is a bit of a deal breaker to me. Thanks for a good informative video!
I wish there would be a device that combine all the best feature all over the products. Currently I am using a RM2 mainly for notetaking and as a calender, as I love reading more on my kindle paperwhite. Also for the entertaining section I have an Ipad, which is fine for that usage. But it annoys me more and more that I have to carry at least three devices, not counting the MS Surface Pro when it comes to special programms. How are you handling the poor video quality on the e-inks especially that you are entertaining a you tube channel (love it ). Probabely an issue we will always have to deal with, as the e.ink devices are intended for other purposes then fast moving pictures and distinctive coloration.
It's the way the surround is made. I spent a long time trying to figure this out. The black on the left of the color one makes it more square, and the white on the bottom of the Go makes even the screen look taller. Also the lack of control between the outer surround and the screen on Go. It's basically a trick of the eye.
Kit is getting kickbacks from Boox. Good for him but I'd migrate to a more bias review. Note Air 4 C has awful battery life. Infant, i hear it's worse then last years.
Yes, I have an affiliate deal with all the major eink brands. So I've no reason to recommend one over the other. It's how all review sites work pretty much. The aim not to convince someone to buy a certain thing, but to be balanced and objective as possible, so that when someone does decide to make a purchase they feel they want to support the channel at no extra cost to themselves. I am one of the most vocal critics of Boox BSR devices' battery life, and frequently point out times when viewers should hold off on the allure of the shiny and new and "love the one you are with"! Thanks much for your well meant comment.

Grey borders as the grey of the screen is the best option
@px8867 yep mate, meant gray and white, yeah :)
I actually prefer the dark border that highlights the display clearly - helps when drawing and for the brain to ignore the rest of the tablet.

The 10.3 has a better aesthetic, that combined with its simplicity makes it an attractive package
No flashing even with color? All my e-ink devices flash on gray. This makes the reMarkable Pro look bad in comparison.
How well will the go 10.3 handle using apps, like Notion, chatGPT, WhatsApp, etc?
