  • Veteran BBC Broadcaster Rajni Kaul, 90, tells Cine Ink her husband Mahendra Kaul, former BBC broadcaster, had a heated verbal dual with India's Prime Minister, Morarji Desai, during the course of an interview in the late 1970s. She also reveals that as far as she is concerned it was not a secret that her husband Mahendra Kaul used to flirt with the then Prime Minister of the UK, Mrs. Margaret Thatcher.
She opens up about her life in conversation with her her fellow broadcaster, Pervaiz Alam. She regales her audience with amazing stories from her career, starting from All India Radio to the BBC Hindi Service in London.
Born in the city of Peshawar on 15th July 1929, Rajni got married to Kashmiri Pandit, Mahendra Kaul, who would go on to establish himself as a legendary broadcaster, working with the VOA in Washington and BBC in London.
Mahendra Nath Kaul was decorated with Order of the British Empire in 1975, after the World War II for services to race relations through his BBC TV programmes. He was the first NRI to be awarded an OBE.
As Rajni Kaul shares fascinating anecdotes from her life of which large part was spent in Peshawar, Delhi, Washington and London.
Above all, Rajni says with a huge sense of pride, she will always remain a Peshawari girl. She gets emotional the moment Peshawar is mentioned. Her voice chokes and she starts reminiscing about her childhood that was spent in Peshawar.
She talks about her late husband Mahendra Kaul in great detail. He was 95 when he died on 11 July, 2018 in London. She met him at All India Radio where Kaul started his journey in broadcasting in July 1948 with Radio Kashmir. He later joined All India radio in Delhi, where Rajni met him for the first time.
Rajni Kaul was the first woman to join BBC Hindi Service as a staff member in1961.
This interview, broadcast in two parts, was recorded in the month of August, 2019, at Rajni Kaul's apartment in London.

I do not know which world did Rajini Kaul lived in or did she take opium everyday where she says that the houses and field that Kashmiri Pandit left behind were being taken care of and money was being sent to the rightful owners by the muslims who have been left behind. She did not obviously live through the turbulent times of the 90s in Kashmir when a community was systematically driven out of the state.

I am flabbergasted to hear whatever the hell she is talking about Kashmiri Pundits not being targeted by local Muslims. Some F'ed up hearsay account she is talking about. Every other person's immediate relatives were killed by local Muslims - Yes Sir. And I don't have Hindu Muslim hatred bone in me. But she is throwing salt on our wounds. She needs a psychiatric evaluation. Goddam it! - that I have to write like this.

At the present time, people in India do not like Nehru although he laying the foundation of modern India, but now these days youth and middle age people only know about the failure of his foreign policy (on the china and Pakistan - Kashmir )

@@CINEINK Yeah...and lots of others who're saying that they did...what about them?
Police evidence and administrative affirmations are of no consequence for her. Her Indian cousin who may or may not have been living in Kashmir told her this, and she's confident enough to vindicate all Kashmiri Muslims. Besides, they're the elites. No one would touch them usually. One or two Kashmiri Muslims don't constitute majority. I liked what she said about Nehru and I agree with that, but this remark was completely ignorant and dumb.

    • @amulyamishra5745

      @@gv6800 she never lived there
She was born in Punjab(today in Pakistan). Her husband never went there. They were just KPs in lineage. Manto, Iqbal, Nehru, PN Haksar, RN Kao a lot of Kashmiri Pandits (most of them) were born out of Kashmir and rarely visited the place. It's sad that the descendants of those who were forced to exile became such pathetic seculars. Go and ask the truth from those who left in 1990 and not those who are living in London since 1970s. And this Cineink guy is just speculating 'maybe her relatives'. It is highly unlikely that she has any relatives there at such an age given the face that she wasn't even born there. She is talking hearsay to portray Kashmiri Muslims in a favourable light. Whole world knows the truth. Go and verify it from leftist sources like Newslaundry.
