Thanks to this Lockdown, I am sitting and home re-visiting the old movies that I had seen in my youth. I am eighty years old and when in college, as a member of the USIS Library Book Discussion Groupin Bangalore, I reviewed the book RK Narayan's "GUIDE". I readily agreed to do so. Waheeda Rahman is one of my favourite actresses and the "GUIDE" a favourite movie of mine. I am glad that I had the opportunity to watch this Interview. Both Simi Garewal and Waheeda Rehman were wonderful actresses and the empathy they had for each other and the thread of affection and friendship they had for each other is revealed in this interview. I've been watching Hindi films since I was a child, and one of the faces I can never forget is that of Waheeda Rehman's. Truly an unrivalled, classical beauty. This rendezvous is the episode I can never ever get tired of watching because it succinctly proves to me that Waheedaji is such a beautiful person both inside and out. Truly an inspiring woman. I must also add that the collage of her classic films presented at the end, as she was singing Waqt Ne Kiya, is so visually arresting and heartwarming at the same time! That said, I don't really understand what she was saying about Sanjeev Kumar and also the meaning of the term that sounded like ghareeb gaye or something, because my Hindi isn't really good. Could someone please enlighten me on the gist of these particular reminiscences? Thanks!
Gaby Poulain She said about sanjeev kumar that he was not punctual so once to teach him in a light way director said to usually patient waheeda ji to go back when he come late so that he can understand that him not being punctual bothers other people (all planned lol) so he realised after that incident. And gareeb gai means poor cow or one who is too timid so say anything or too domesticated in nature like a cow.

I have seen all Rendezvous's I think! I mean Simi ji you are a genius in making people open up. But this episode made me so sad, when Guru Dutt ji was discussed. It just reminded me of SSR ... something ineffable. This is so sad that genius and true artistry, sensitivity, kindness and genuine goodness is taken for granted, unless it is lost to the sands of time and then people notice the vacuum and say, oh we lost something big. 😭. It's like we never learn and this is bound to happen again to another true artist and good human being. I have seen all Rendezvous's I think! I mean Simi ji you are a genius in making people open up. But this episode made me so sad, when Guru Dutt ji was discussed. It just reminded me of SSR ... something ineffable. This is so sad that genius and true artistry, sensitivity, kindness and genuine goodness is taken for granted, unless it is lost to the sands of time and then people notice the vacuum and say, oh we lost something big. 😭. It's like we never learn and this is bound to happen again to another true artist and good human being. Frankly, who won't be depressed when everything good is so casually overlooked and everything bad is deliberately overlooked so it can thrive n thrive.
