That's look awesome. It's nice how you manage to get curvature even across the whole surface. Nicely done. Keep up the good work

Is there a slight radius to the iron, the plane sole, or both? Really nice work Tom!

Thanks for the question. Yes, there's a 4" ( ...thereabouts-; ) radius to both. The iron is by Ron Hock, you can order them directly from him.
      all the best~

Great will that be hinged or on a track?

      Thanks for the question.
It'll be hinged using knife hinges....

Is that a Lie Nielsen I see there Tom! If so How does it compare to the Veritas low angle jack?

Thanks for the question and comments. It is...I picked it up this past winter when I 'donated' my Veritas low-angle to the school. It's great. No lateral adjust and a slightly different mouth opening mechanism but they're very similar to one another. Always been a fan. It's also easier to keep mine separate from the students as they all use the Veritas! - ; )
      all the best~

Great thanks. So you adjust with a mallet? Do you find yourself thinking 'man I wish this had lateral adjustment'?. Guess it's more like a wooden plane in that regard and that's what I have, apart from two block planes but I keep thinking a LAJ would be quite useful. Again thanks Tom; as soon as I saw your school I wanted to come! The average for a 1 year cabinet making course in the UK is £16-£18,000. Maybe one day I'll visit but for now it's youtube - the great encyclopoedia. I wish you all the best and hope you keep up the fabulous content.

Yes, I adjust with a small plane adjusting hammer-
      I enjoy that method.
Maybe we'll see you in Toronto one day!
      Cheers~

What are you rubing it with after you have planed the curve?

It's a Polissoir, basically just a tight bundle of straw used to apply a finishing wax. I think the one one being used is a French pattern.

Thanks for the question. As Barry said, it's a polissoir used to burnish some bees wax to finish. Here's a link: theunpluggedwoodshop.myshopify.com/products/polissoir-wax

How did you glue it up?

    • @theUnpluggedWoodshop
      @theUnpluggedWoodshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question -
The glue-up happens in stages, ( which is why I didn't have any footage ) ...start with the two pairs of outside staves and glue them up..., once they're done, you add a stave and/or glue the sub-assemblies together... for tighter curves, you may have to construct a cradle type jig that holds the staves together and wedges are driven to hold them secure while the glue sets up.
      Hope that helps!

      all the best~
