  • It's not every day that you get to see two of the most polarizing sports figures in the same room together and it just so happens they both have ties to two of the most storied rivalry in the history of college athletics. In this AL.com exclusive video series, former Auburn basketball star and TV commentator Charles Barkley talks to Alabama head coach Nick Saban about his team and his vision for success but also takes us closer to his life off the football field.
In the final segment of this series, which you can view at the top of this article, Saban and Barkley discuss what motivates them, how they avoid the "noise" that comes along with high-profile success, and when they will know the time to leave their professions has come.

Maybe not even arrguble the greatest coach of all time. To listen to his life's pitch, not a football parity, is always direct and consistant. He is to me the best there has ever been....especially after this year's national dhampianship.....that was really really something to behold....not just for Bama folk but for the world......he wins because he cares and is the best.....the bank !

I don't know why everyone faults Bryant for initially coaching during in a segregated era. He actually won in both eras; integrated also. He was a prime mover in making the SEC overall integrated. If anything, I give Bryant more consideration because he took small, slow, scrappy all White teams and beat larger integrated teams with bigger, faster players.
I'm still taking Nick Saban in the debate between the two, but I don't see how segregation hurts Bryant since he beat integrated teams with more players with his little 30+ man roster teams.
Here's how I decide the argument:
"Nick Saban is the better football coach, but Bear Bryant will always be the bigger legend & folk hero"

Probably in 2028 when his contract runs out, but I wouldn't doubt it if he's like Bowden and Paterno. He loves being part of a team
