- Nick Saban The still-unannounced hiring of Kirby Smart at Georgia remains the secondary story as Alabama finishes SEC Championship Game prep.
A question about his defensive coordinator and assistant coach for 11 years nearly made Nick Saban emotional Friday in Atlanta.
Nick seems contemplative these days....he has a keen, sensitive, quietly intelligent side to him. Love or hate him, he is a remarkable person.
I respect the man as a person, sitting on top of that throne is hard, and staying up there is difficult.
I may hate the guy but this is the first time I have actually seen him cry as a sore loser let alone having a heart for other people than himself.
He is a good coach but he is an asshole with too much pride. I'm glad he finally opened up about this and finally I can say something good about Saban let alone good details about him.

Coach Saban and Coach Smart both understand that families enteust their young men to them. Not only to develop as players but more importantly to help them develop as men and preparing them for the next phase of their life, be it football or business. The men they help develop are a direct reflection on the coaches. As much as Coach Saban has aggravated me over the years I have nothing but respect for him. In the end I know he will be unbelievably proud of Coach Smart.

Uncle Lou’s Black lab Georgia came to play. They kicked our butts for 3 qtrs. They deserved to win. But, at the end of the day you have to win. Awesome game.
He's just top of the line. Worth every single nickel. If anybody ever had that "it" factor he does. He's a hellcat but he's also fair.. just a great great individual not withstanding the best college football coach that has ever coached period!!!!

This day feels like it was yesterday, I was born in 95 so remember the Shula days. I was one that always said we gotta be super thankful for these moments and understand they’ll end one day and he will deserve his time, that day is now and I’m so grateful and thankful to have witnessed that era. Bama is getting so much hate lately but it’s all because of all the success and championships we bagged. What a dynasty, what an era, what a coach. Just look at the success and mini dynasty’s going on that are from his coaching tree, it’s awsome. ROLL TIDE! God Bless Coach Saban, Mrs, Terry and family. ROLL DAMN TIDE!
These two great coaches, great recruiters, great player development experts will have one hell of a power struggle over the next few years. Should generate a bunch of interest!

Another Reason for Alabamas greatness was looking back... at Nick and Kirby... we see that they ran through teams and destroyed teams because it's like combining now Georgia and Alabama to create a SUPER TEAM... what do you think would happen if you see how successful Kirby has become in such a short time after branching off from the Alabama empire... now it's like Alabama vs Georgia... once an Alliance, now a foe.. as far a competition... now we get to see was it Kirby that made Alabama that great or how much of it was of Nick because Kirbys Georgia basically looks identical to the Alabama of old , just in different uniforms.....
We now know, Bama is still the standard.

I have been both an Alabama fan and a Georgia fan for 50 years. I am glad for Georgia and sad for Bama. I will still Love Coach Smart and hope he wins the East every year so Coach Saban can still show him how to win. Thank you both guys for such a long winning tradition at Alabama. I am just so proud of both of you and may the best team win when you meet on the field of honor !

I want Alabama to win that one, and then all their other games, too. I was like the only guy in the country who thought the LSU/AL national title rematch game was like the best thing that could ever happen. The whole country hated that rematch situation and I was on cloud nine. :-)

Do they suddenly wind up playing in Athens instead of Tuscaloosa? Is there some rule on that? Kirby Smart does not look at all stupid to me.
Recruits choose where they want to go regardless of where the coach recruiting goes to.Well until signing day recruits can uncommit and commit
+ennis whalen There are often some rules in the contracts about that. But certainly, sometimes the recruit doesn't care because they want this program, not this coach. Other times, they may have liked the coach so much they will follow them to their new school. Or, they may have liked the coach, but not the new school they went to and will wind up going to a new, third place entirely rather than the original program without the coach they liked or following the coach they liked to a program they don't. It also depends on if they have already signed letters of intent. Those are very clear that you are committing to the institution, NOT the coach. If you've signed one of those and the coach moves, you are basically out of luck.

As a Georgia fan, Nick Saban and Alabama's success actually made college football more interesting. For 1 it's not often that dynasties of this nature become reality. Secondly, they have dominant. They are not a New England Patriot type dynasty winning so many games on last second field goals or controversial plays. They kicked Texas' ass, they kicked LSU's ass, they kicked Notre Dame's ass, they kicked Ohio State's ass. No teams since 2000 have won more than 2 national championships beside Alabama and LSU who owes one of their chips to Saban. Winning the national championship has become more important due to Alabama's dynasty.
