    Hi! I have the titanium version that will never fit my woman's pocket. So I got rid of the pocket clip and made a kydex sheath for it. Now I carry it horizontally on my belt and it's great! I don't feel it, the grip is more comfortable and I can enjoy a longer blade. Take care, Irène.

    Awesome video! Got the Military in DLC S30V in camo G10 in 2022 and just picked up the Military 2. The original Military is placed in my left pocket so the blade stays securely closed against the pocket while the Military 2 is in my right pocket. Both are great knives and can't go wrong with either knife. Thanks for sharing!

    Best video on a knife I’ve seen in 2019. Bought a military as soon as I finished watching. Love bigger blades and not ashamed to carry them. Would love to hear more about how you use your military as a Park Ranger. Best wishes

    I have been carrying a military for years..I work in cable construction..So I’m working aerial,And underground.The long blade is legal to carry where I live..I’m cutting mule tape,Zip ties boxes,All sorts of tape and it’s my favorite knife...When I’m spicing,taps the blade on both the pm2 and military will even work as a jacket stripper.....In Texas the summers are brutal and they have stayed rust free with just basic maintenance...

      It’s a helluva tool for a working man/woman. It’s excellent in the “field”. For folks out in “it” getting after it, I struggle to think of a better knife to this day.

    I used to think that tip-down was silly. Then i bought the resilience (4.25" blade)...
    I quickly learned that there is a need for tip-down if the knife is long enough, you explained it very well. I currently am carrying the Manix 2XL, I'm on the fence about changing from tip-up to tip-down, tho I'm not sure that it qualifies length-wise, it's sort of a weird in between spot. Great vid!

    I've found in my experience that liner locks are good if they have standoffs or some support along the back of the knife at least halfway to the pivot..every liner or framelock I've had with minimal support that rely on the pivot and a standoffs or small backspacer at the butt end of the knife seem to fail under hard but not extreme use..the military and Spydercos budget linerlocks got it right..light weight isn't always good if you plan on actually using the knife support is needed

    Great content... I needed this comparison. Still, I find myself holding out for a PM2 in 204p/20cv/m390 instead of getting the Knifeworks exclusive Military in this video. Maybe I will regret that decision when Knifeworks runs out, and nobody has delivered a PM2 in that steel yet, but that’s the risk I’m willing to take!

      @rangerjonoutdoors6429  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks dude! I would NOT pass on the military if that’s what you’re waiting for. If you can get away with carrying the size of the Military for your needs, it’s just a much more capable knife than the PM2. The PM2 is also just perfection in its size class don’t get me wrong! But, if you’ve got no restrictions on size, man, the Military is just phenomenal. Either way though! Thanks for watching! It’s good to know some folks get something out of it. 🔥🤘

    RJO - Great to see you back on YT. I've missed your videos! I am thinking about picking up a new Spyderco in the near future... Para3, PM2, Manix 2, Military, Sage, Native 5, Lil Native... I'm not sure? Looking for something a little more premium than my Delica4 for EDC. I am looking for a steel that is solid all-around - good corrosion resistance, not impossible to sharpen and holds an edge very well, so I am thinking M390, S30V or maybe S110V or S90V? What are your thoughts? I was considering Maxamet or CruWear, but I don't know enough about those and heard that one or both of those will petina and rust pretty easily from fingerprints. I like to play with my EDC blades, especially when it's got something like the compression lock, so a steel with that characteristic wouldn't be ideal.

    • @rangerjonoutdoors6429
      @rangerjonoutdoors6429  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lagotto Operator hey man sorry I just saw this I’ve been offline for a while! If it’s not too late, I’ve actually come full circle myself lately and I’m all about the knife as a total package for the dollars you spend vs. getting caught up in blade steel frenzy. I’m all about high end blade steels, but it’s got to be a knife I love and enjoy using and something I’m proud to own and show off. For that purpose no matter what I try, I keep coming back to my S30V PM2’s for edc users. The Sage 2 is an all time absolute favorite too. Phenomenal knife. The Spydiechef has been next on my high end list for quite some time now it’s just a work of art, yet also can serve a solid function especially here in Florida. Id say go for the knife platform that makes you smile the most. Another phenomenal knife to check out is the fox tur in elmax. Crazy good value.

I agree about how slim they carry, construction quality, and function. I have noticed a hot spot (XL sized hands) where there is jimping on the RIL release relief when gripped for hard cutting on these particular versions (especially fluted titanium ) . Have you ever had issues with mili or PM2 because of the fine tip?

    • @rangerjonoutdoors6429
      @rangerjonoutdoors6429  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey John great question I forgot to mention that in my vid but NO. I think people make way too much out of that. The fine point on these knives has been amazing as a tool for doing fine things with it. I’ve put a hurting on the tips too. No issues. However if you try to pry up a big staple or something like that they’ll definitely snap, but lateral force like that will snap the tip off even some more robust “tips” on other knives. If you just use the knife to cut things and don’t pry on that tip or try to use it as a screwdriver then I don’t think you’re going to hurt it. Haha actually though I HAVE used the fine tip as a screwdriver for my eyeglasses many times so there’s a good example of it’s usefulness and obviously the tiny eyeglass screws aren’t going to hurt anything. Rock on ! 🔥

      Yeah! I LOVE k390. Anything over 4" is illegal to carry here in FL so I have to stick with my Millie's, otherwise I'd have one for sure.

    This is good for slicing chip bags and apples, and other mild edc taks… it’s way too thin for its length and with the hole it’ll snap with any lateral force, it’s not for any para or military use

    Sal has such intuition and guts in how he makes his design decisions. It's so evident in the tip-down carry of this knife. No matter what the tip-up ideologues say, tip-down is correct for this knife.

    Not everyone immediately understands this knife. You need to grow up to it. After I bought myself a Military, this knife displaced all other knives from my pocket. And I don’t really want to use anything other than Military. Military inspires confidence, calm, and reliability. This is one of the few knives that can be the only knife for life.

    The military is awesome. I’d get it in S30V, for a little more edge durability over S110V. It’s a cool knife for sure!

      Stephanie Santelmann S110V will have better edge retention than S30V.

    Holy crap this is the knife I have lmao. I bought a Spyderco from some back woods knife shop and the owner didn’t know what it was. But this knife felt amazing. This is coming from a dude who owns every Chris Reeves knife+ a lot of mid techs and customs over $1200 and up. I knew it wasn’t a pm1 or 2 but there was no other Spyderco knife that looked like it other than those two. So I just concluded that someone modded it to have a linear lock rather than the compression lock. Which wasn’t a bad thing imo. I have the same view about linear locks. If you’re beating on the back of your blade...you’re either very well misinformed on how to use a knife or you just need to go an get a fixed blade already and stop breaking your knives lol. Anyways thanks for clearing this up for me man. Glad i own such an awesome knife.

    Always wanted one, but refuse to buy liner locks that cost even close to that much.

      Well you're doing your self a serious disservice. The military is literally the only good, strong and reliable liner lock on there if you ask me. And im a triad lock guy, usually only carry my recon 1's or custom demko AD 10. Do yourself a favour and buy one, one of the best and comfy cutters you'll ever own.

    spyderco is a hyped brand that is not really worth the money. Firstly, at the beginning, the production was apparently good in terms of the quality of the goods, not to say that it was super, but the goods were good. Today, it is beyond insanity in the sense that on some products one metal liner is installed, respectively, the blade fastening on one side is held only in the G-10 plastic handle, but this is not the limit, pay attention to the blade stop, or rather, what the blade rests on the metal stop is not even a screw, but just an stop that is not inserted into the metal liner, but simply into the plastic handle, at the slightest increase or slight pressure, this pin will fly out and break the handle at best. I assume that in the near future spyderco will get worse and worse in quality and reliability. In the end, the knife must be at least a little reliable, which unfortunately cannot be said about spyderco at the moment.

      The barrel spacers are riding on stainless liners. The liners are like that of the bugout, bracing surfaces are metal.
      With the tension of the screws on the pivot and body, that stop pin will not fail. It’s called a floating stop pin, and actually provides longer life. A screwed in barrel spacer as a stop pin will eventually shear at the fastener.
      Also, spyderco heat treats all of their steels probably the best in the business. If there’s a steel that has a working hardness of 58-60 hrc, they’re going with 60-61. They have proven themselves to not cut any corners. They really made me take a second look at benchmade and their value.
      Spyderco provides the best value. You can get a delica k390 for $115.
      That’s a 9% vanadium, 65 hrc, tool steel ground to sub 15 thousandths of an inch.
      For benchmade to provide a 9% vanadium steel, double the price. For spyderco to do it, add $20.
