Eric Glesser was asked in an interview why the Military's clip is tip down . he responded that the Military is a large knife and it's tip down so that the user doesn't have to re position their hand to open it after taking it out of the pocket .

      @mattkandel2449 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Its pretty true, too. I'd expect that for it it be tip up and not have to readjust the clip would be in an awkward spot and you'd have 1.5 inches of handle popping out above the pocket line.

A true Renaissance Man in our presence: 1800's porn, military-style knife, Bon Jovi shirt, rowing machine, butt crack, Meta Mucil; there are few things that Pete cannot incorporate into a video. While I'm not a big Spyderco fan, this is a pretty nice looking knife. And I completely agree about the positioning of the clip, I'm much more interested in whether it fits comfortably in a tight grip than which direction it sits in my pocket.

The spyderco Military blade shape is favorite. There is something about the non-blunted tip (unlike the endura), longer sweeping belly (unlike the PM2), which gives the quintessential spyderco shape. I love how light it is for how massive the handle and blade is. One handed manipulation of the liner lock is easier than the Police IMHO.
Only gripes: G10 scale material blocks the jumping on the finger choil, spine thickness could be a thinned down to the thickness of the Manix or Autonomy 2 for better slicing.
A compression lock Millie in Maxamet or Rex121 would be awesome!

If any of the people that always parrot this comment actually held the damn knife theyd know how easy it is to mod to tip up, but thats pointless because it carries just fine as is.
Even if it came with tip up, then everyone would complain its not compression lock, even though its one of the absolute best liner locks on the market, which again, people would know if they ever actually tried the knife.

No one seems to actually tear this knife down to its parts, and because of that NOONE ever actually talks about how genuine it’s construction actually is.
The blade rides on a very thick and robust pivot that slots into the handle scales. The pivot screws are only there to keep the outer scales in place and sandwich the whole construction together. That said the pivot screw are not load bearing. They both could come out of the knife, and the knife would still function because the lanyard tube and handle screws would still hold it together. Half if the hardware on this knife could fail and it would still work well. When Sal designed this knife, expecting hard use and neglect seamed baked right into the design. The pivot mech, and overall handle construction is such that I would take it over other any hard use frame locks on the market. If the blade shape wasn’t so fragile, this design seems to really make lots of sense. Oh and the original mid back spacer makes the handle super rigid. I actually added one back into my current Military at the cost of 1 oz just because of confidence it inspired.

I’ve owned a bunch of dragonfly’s from Japan and while the first couple were centered well, the last one I bought (2013ish) has a pretty bad offset. I live near the golden store and didn’t even look closely at it before I left because the first couple had been perfect.
I was recently there again for some Xmas shopping and got a delica for someone.. they had a bunch of “boxless” knives for 45% off. I had to look at four of them before I found one that was centered well.
On china.. the only Chinese spydercos I’ve bought are the bugs. I’ve given away dozens over the past ten years and they’re pretty much always perfect! And I’ve been buying them since they were only $7. They’re like $16-22 now.. more for the black ones.

The Military is tip-down, because pulling it out of the pocket in this configuration puts one's finger right into the hole. Instantly. I have my Police configured identically for the same reason. As for improvements, I have two Militaries: An older model and a newer blurple S110V. Aside from minor physical differences that do matter a bit, the action on the newer knife is nothing short of outstanding. Better than any of my PM2s or Paras. Given a choice, I prefer the Military. A Military 2 is supposed to be released, but I really like this one, even though I'll still buy the new one. It's a fantastic knife that carries and cuts beautifully.

I use lanyard holes for short fobs (?) that allow quick removal from a pocket - here, what is it good for since the hole in at the bottom of your pocket?
edit: it's good for actual lanyard use i.e. around the wrist protection in iffy situations which I've never had a use for.
Great review and thanks for the crack...butt crack that is!

When working in the Canadian bush, I used the tethers in my army surplus cargo pockets to tie my critical gear in so I wouldn't lose it in a bad situation. If you fall through the ice, you have a real need of a knife and a firestarter. So yes to the lanyard hole.
The Military is an excellent EDC. I don't notice the size in my jeans pocket. I wouldn't want to see the lock or clip position changed.

The issue with reviews on probiotics ; is that it's dependent on your own gut bacteria. So something that suits you, may not suit me and vice versa. If you don't already know, Google FODMAP.

I was gifted a gold class Benchmade griptilian with carbon fiber handles and m4 steel that cost him nearly $500 but I have no problem using that because I didn't spend a dime on it. Spend $190 on the military and I'm afraid to handle it without gloves. I suppose it's all just plastic and metal at the end of the day. Best to use and enjoy.

It’s held up well for lots of camping tasks over time plus it’s light enough to take backpacking. After being through a lot mine still looks nearly new. No corrosion or blade chipping. I wish they would make a smaller military or make the pm2 in liner lock or framelock like the military has done. I hate compression locks. I love the military but I dislike the clip orientation. Most people don't buy one cause of its size. Fix these things and make a model for it. Military average size. But spyderco are more interested in making near everything with compression locks sadly. Anyways if your a user the military is great. But it's a bit big for some jobs. And if you take it out in public you may get some looks.
Many people have stabbed there legs including me because of the clip tip down. If you put it in your back pocket or left pocket that won't happen. So this is not a right pocket carry. They refuse to change it because they say it's faster to deploy. Which is dumb unless your using it for fighting.... Something that people shouldn't be using knives for.

Spyderco makes the ugliest knives on the market. It blows mind how popular they are because none of their knives look nice. The weird blade shapes are why Spydercos look ugly because of how they are designed to include the spydie hole. Thats why The Para 2, Para 3 and Miltary are some of their ugliest knives and all the others they make with that similar weird leaf shaped blade.
I dont hate Spyderco, I really like how they offer more steel options than any other knife company out there. Maybe thats why they are so popular, Because it's definitely noting to do with the looks of their knives. But still, I wouldn't buy any.

Typically I really dislike spyderco knives and these models are no exception. Furthermore the name "native chief" is hugely offensive to me and so I now dislike spyderco even more. I enjoyed the video though so thank you.

@@philurbaniak1811 ha. That's funny. But to be offended is a choice. I think you have made a bad choice in being offended by a name. That was a good one though. Len is gonna have to step it up huh?
