Spyderco Stretch 2 K390 Long Term Full Review (2 Years)
These are my final thoughts on the k390 stretch 2! Simply astonishing is all I can say. Filmed vertical on accident in 1 take just because I expressed my thoughts and feelings from the heart and honestly and every take I did after just felt too scripted, so I'm posting the original. It was all on the fly so take some of the data points for what they are and enjoy!

I have been wondering for a while just how corrosion prone K390 is or isn't. I couldnt find the answer I was looking for on the forums or youtube so I decided to buy a Stretch 2 and carry one edc at work for 6 months. If you're curious how K390 does on the florida coast and elements, my findings are here. Thanks for watching!

Sharpening BD1N - 600 Grit Cheap Waterstone Finish (see description)
มุมมอง 1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Sharpened up some BD1N steel today. It takes a clean apex readily and sharpens relatively easy, but holds an edge like much harder to sharpen steels. As you can see it will easily cut free standing phone book paper with as low as a 600 grit edge. I highly recommend it for kitchen use, especially for the price. 🥃🤘🇺🇸🏝🔥

Just going over my initial ramblings and thoughts on The Spyderco Sage 2. There are a couple moments in the video where I kind of say the opposite of what I am getting at but I try to make sure I clarify if I did. I added a black S/S bracelet to mine (I have the "G" model gold trimmed bezel - looks sharp). Just don't care for that loose flap of straps. Mine keeps INCREDIBLE time. +1 to +2 seconds PER MONTH! I wear mine for wet occasions: fishing, swimming (including snorkeling), sailing, kayaking. No issues. I also wear it hunting because the large face/hands are easy to see in low light; even without much lume. I'm color-blind but have great low-light vision. My Every Day Wear is a Hamilton Khaki King II (also bracelet) and for working/painting/logging I have my trusty (and also extremely accurate) Seiko Solar 100M. Only a beater because it has 12 years worth of scars.

So I think it depends on the person and climate. I live in a very humid area, and I sweat like crazy. After one use outside doing some landscaping it was already rusting. That being said I love the knife and keep Frog lube on it to help prevent rust. I do have a question for you or anyone who reads this. I like to use my knives to cut up fruit or other foods sometimes. What rust prevention product can be used that's safe to consume? I'm asking because Frog lube is not one of them lol😅

Sorry bout the length of this message, but we’re talkin bout my favorite steel of all time!! Swear to God I wouldn’t trade my K390 Stretch for any 3 knives made with Magnacut. And idc who makes the knives, how much they cost, how hard they are to get, or what the HRC is on their MC…I wouldn’t trade 3 for 1. If we’re being totally honest, K390 blows the doors off MC in every way (except stainless) even when MC is hardened higher. K390 is that good, especially when it comes to edge retention, ease of sharpening, and how sharp it truly gets. And where I live in Cincinnati, my K390 knives don’t even patina even though I use the heck out of them for everything, so they certainly don’t rust. I’ve collected knives for 40 years and without a doubt I’ve found nothing even close that compares to K390 for an overall EDC knife. Don’t get me wrong, MC is a great steel, but most knife customers have yet to see its full potential because not many knife companies’ heat treatment vendors are hardening it to it’s recommended 63-64 HRC. I have a custom EDC in MC @ 64.3 HRC, and again it does not come close to out performing any K390 knife I have, especially up against my Stretch or Delica. And the blade geometry on my custom in MC is almost identical to my Stretch. It may sound like I’m a MC hater, but that’s nowhere near correct. It’s just that MC shouldn’t even be used in the same sentence as K390! 👍👍

Awesome video! Got the Military in DLC S30V in camo G10 in 2022 and just picked up the Military 2. The original Military is placed in my left pocket so the blade stays securely closed against the pocket while the Military 2 is in my right pocket. Both are great knives and can't go wrong with either knife. Thanks for sharing!

Great looking knife there. I just ordered and won a couple Police models on eBay. I got the Police 4 K390 FRN SE from Knife Center, etc. Anyway, I dig all these 'hybrid' models, but I am partial to the all or nothing kind of mentality. Example: Endela, Stretch, larger models of certain Spyderco models (XL versions). The Police is a large folder with attitude that has a class of its own. Nonetheless, I love Spyderco. Was just venting a bit ha-ha! Great video man!

Ive found it hard to buy any other knives after I got the k390 stretch 2. I work as a freight dock worker as a forklift op and trailer hostler. Before the stretch 2 I heavily favored my BM 940 and Demko AD-20 sharksfoot simce they were still usuable with glove but I had to sharpen them about once a month and they arent as usuable as the stretch 2 with gloves. Amazing to me honestly because i bought it since it was a inexpensive k390 knife not expecting much more then experience with k390 but it has been in my pocket when working for a year now and only ever had to hit it with a ceramic rod and strop.... and its hair popping sharp again. Also funny to me since I had myself convinced that my M4 PM2 was going to be the end all be all and I hardly touch it.

I got a little trick it's pretty easy to reassemble now. You almost reassemble the whole knife except let the back lock bar stick out and then you shove it in and push the threaded secondary pivot in at the same time

The whole flexing micarta thing is a complete non-issue for me. Sure, it might flex a bit in extreme situations, but that's a lot different than the entire handle flexing, like in a Bugout. Those steel liners are stupid stiff and confidence inspiring. I've had my Crucarta PM 2 for about a week and absolutely love it. And like yours, mine came stupid sharp! The only knife I ever bought that came sharper was a TRM Neutron 2. That thing was beyond scalpel sharp!

Mine started slightly rusting only after a few days of pocket carry. It would get a little damp from body moisture but that’s about it. I love the edge the blade takes and retention but hate that it starts corroding so quickly. The knife feels like a LW PM2 to me and that’s why I really wanted it. I put a layer of oil on it, stored it away and haven’t carried it in about a year but going to start again. I just have to keep it maintained a lot better than my knives with VG-10, S35VN, M390, D2 and even other Carbon steel blades with a lot less chromium content.

Funny how far off the reserve people that open boxes with knives are. If your actually doing work, chopping carpet, carving wood, skinning game or really cutting anything away from civilization the LAST thing you want is your hand or digits near the blade. Get the wrong splinter or some nasty innards on your hand and that's an unusable hand and toxic shock before you get to a hospital or drug cabinet. That said don't think any knife with gaps on the back is a good field knife and the front better have no bits that cause blisters or bleeding with prolonged use. I get it though I LOVE finger groves and holding blades for craft work and under roof hobbies and reach for a cold steel tuff or tuff lite above other blades.

As personally finding having to adjust the minutes every couple of days for accuracy, the watch always seems to catch putting on a rain jacket or backpack strap. With the rubber divers strap along with the crown being at the 4pm position is a must for me now knowing the reliability with the eco-drive and accurate time keeping..
