  • Hello friends!
    I’m Elisabetta, an Italian watercolor artist with a passion and a curiosity for art supplies and pigments.
    Today I am continuing the exploration of Quinacridone pigment family with Quin Orange PO48, a pigment that seems to be on the way of being discontinued just like PR206. Should you buy a tube from the remaining stock before it disappears from the market?
    I will be swatching and comparing paints by Daniel Smith, M.Graham, Rembrandt, QOR and more!
    I will also try, as usual, some mixes!
    In this video, I’m using my beloved brush Unico Infinito by Borciani Bonazzi. You can find it at Momarte here: www.momarte.com/prodotti-per-...
    Hereafter you can find the link to the introduction to the Quinacridone family: • Quinacridone Quintet b...

    I buy my art supplies on Momarte, my favourite online store which always has sales and special offers: www.momarte.com/?aff=44 (they ship internationally and are very helpful and kind). This is an affiliated e: link that will support my channel without costing you any extra money.
    Also, if you appreciate my videos, don't hesitate to like and subscribe to my channel, that would be amazing.

    thanks for this video! I only found it now (02/2024) and coincidentally last week I bought a Rembrandt Burnt Orange (PO48) 20ml tube. I had the Daniel Smith one already, which I find more reddish. I stay away from mixes, as it can get muddy fast if/when I mix. I tend to follow pigment numbers rather than names, as manufacturers get a bit creative sometimes and it is hard to have a clear idea of what colour contains which pigment. So sad to see colours disappear...but maybe it is a door to explore other colours as well. I really enjoyed your mixes at the end. This colour might not be as easy to use on its own, but mixing it with blues, greens, reds and yellow it is a real gem. Grazie, Elisabetta!

    Oh wow. Now I'm going to have to check to see what I have in PO48. I'd hate to see it go! I love the Rembrandt in the video, and of course the Sennelier. I know I have the DS and the QOR in my stash. I guess this pigment game is a lesson in non-attachment and flexibility, and being open to new possibilities. Ha! Hard to see such a beautiful single pigment go! The emerald mix is almost a raw sienna with a green umber tinge. Very nice.

      I love your philosophical deduction! I think 2 or 3 tubes should last for a few generations :) .... I really love the Rembrandt as well and I think I will buy it again....Have a nice day!

    Thanks for these swatches. I enjoy seeing the comparisons. Have you made a video about your studio palette already? I am not sure if I have seen it. If you haven't it would be interesting to see what palette it is and what colours you have in it.

      Hello Alexa! No I haven’t…I only have made a video about my travel palette… my main studio palette hasn’t been renovated since a while so the truth is that there are colours which I never touch and new colours that I really am impatient to introduce….but it’s a great idea actually and it could be a good moment to freshen it up!! 😊 thanks a lot for your very kind message. Daniel Smith has said they have a 20 year supply of PO48. Still, I expect prices will start climbing in a few years (especially as other manufacturers had no huge back stock of it so more artists will be buying the Daniel Smith version). I've been stocking up not just on PO48, but some of the mixes that DS uses it in (quin gold, undersea green). I too, use a lot of QBO! Nice comparison video, thank you.

    My favourite homemade mix for burnt orange is with PBr 25 (a deep reddish brown, the one I use is Royal Brown from Rosa Gallery) and PY 150 (Nickel Azo Yellow). I don't know how it compares to quin burnt orange, but in any case I can make gorgeous shades with this mix.

    I’m glad you included the DS Aussie Red Gold and Sennelier’s Chinese Orange; they’re very reminiscent of a very orange PO49. From what I understand, Aussie Red Gold was first introduced by Spectrum Art in Australia but then Daniel Smith introduced it. I can’t remember where I read this or whether it is true. A Gallo has an almost identical colour.

      Hello awatercolourist! I have Sennelier’s Chinese orange. It came in a good value set of Sennelier watercolors. I didn’t know it was reminiscent of PO49, good to know. I have the DS quin gold hue made with PO48 and PY150. I’m not keen in it because it has such a strong yellow undertone. Do you recall which A Gallo color is similar to PO48? Thanks!

    Hello Elisabetta, thank you again for an interesting video. I have the Qor version and I like it a lot. They make a Quin Gold from this and PY150 which looks a lot like the Chinese Orange. On an other subject, could it have something to do with the paper, that the Qor colors in your videos don’t flow? You mentioned it a couple of times. In my experience they flow a lot, sometimes even too much. But much more so on cotton paper, which for swatching would be understandably a bit of a waste. Thank you again.

    • @WatercolorElisabetta
      @WatercolorElisabetta  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Martina! I was really surprised as well by the low dispersion if QOR, because my experience with this brand is quite the opposite! Great dispersion! Thank you very much for your comment, it’s always a pleasure! Have a lovely week, Elisabetta

    • @heelerjustheeler879
      @heelerjustheeler879 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think, too, that one needs to start with a lot less paint with the QoR to see the great flow. They are very concentrated and high pigment so if you start with a lot of paint, they just can't move. They need to be diluted more. They feel and work a little differently than other watercolors. I really like them but it takes a tad getting used to.
