Maybe Missy seems to become more "normal" when he starts liking her because he's an unreliable "narrator". Maybe the movie is be set from his point of view and she seemed completely insane to him until he got to know her? Vice versa for Melissa? Nah... Too smart for a Sandler movie.
the one thing i remember about this movie is that lauren lapkis' character sexually assaulted david spade's character twice and both times it was played off as a joke because i guess a man that's "weak" enough to get raped by a woman is sO hiLaRiOuS. so not only did it have toxic masculinity that hurts women, but also toxic masculinity that hurts men. gross movie overall.

Oh thank god someone said something! I stopped watching it because it was so gross. I was kinda annoyed not many people bring that up. Like, that was a really fucked up scene.

Literally just financing a vacation for the entire Sandler family and they can write off their personal spending on their taxes as work expenses, Adam Sandler laundering that Netflix coin into his family’s pockets, I bet he overpaid all of them for those short appearances. Kind of smart tbh. I don’t think Happy Madison even cared if it was a good movie, just cash grabbing w the lowest possible effort put into it

She loves to improv a lot of wacky characters, so this role makes sense for her. Chelsea doesn't really go all in with the craziness. If you watch Lapkus in "The Characters" another netflix show, you'll see it.
They do look alike, but their comedy style is very different. Lauren is far more absurdist and Chelsea would not do this role with the same insanity. Lauren did an incredible job.
I genuinely passionately hate When movies give us a clearly less attractive (and by that I mean really unattractive) male actors than female actresses and then try to pretend like it's totally normal. I cannot be the only who knows that's completely unrealistic.
Late to the comments but I agree with you man ! I wouldn't know myself, but I kinda feel like it messes with boys heads growing up - say they're impressionable, watch a lot of stuff like this and assume this is what the world is like : and end up awful people who are terrible to women being biitter that things aren't as they were lead to believe. Idealistic thing to want, but think it would be great instead if the male characters are shown to actually make an effort, go through growth and have passions of their own - ground it closer to reality! Be a decent person for sake of being a decent person without expections, taking care of yourself because thats healthy and doing something that makes you happy outside of having a partner do that for you type thing.
I agree. Not even them looking bad They just make them disgusting and horrible human beings and then give them supermodel GFs. It's honestly insulting to women because we have standards y'all-
Damn they REALLY didn’t want me to know about this stupid movie at all, did they? I’m the 3rd person to say 3rd times the charm, so you’re extra charmed
my parents got mad at me cause i left during them watching this movie and apparently i had to stay or i'd miss the funny scene ??? anyway i didnt stay and now i know i missed absolutely nothing.
I love Lauren Lapkus so much. Her female improv group Wild Horses is real funny. And her 87 podcasts are hilarious, too. I knew she thought this would be her big break because of the names attached. But.. eek.
That magical, pixie, dream girl cliche... I feel like it is written by men about girls like me. "Crazy", "quirky" and "illogical"... no, you just don't see women as people... our decisions are perfectly logical thanks.
Exactly!! They just gave her a bunch of stupid gags to make her look dumb even though half of her decisions make sense. Guy you know texts you and says he loves you, why not go meet up with him? You go on a spa day with a woman who's being treated like shit by her husband? Why not tell her it's okay to leave him?
Or they're not crazy but delusional and insanely hot dream girls. Like as soon as I saw that gorgeous girl at the airport hit on David spade because they what...were reading the same book? I was like ok thats ridiculous. Then she hooks up with him in the janitors closet and I'm like okay that's insane. Then she doesn't get to go to Hawaii and so she flies to Hawaii to meet up with a guy she fooled around with in an airport janitors closet for three minutes which means she had to BUY HER OWN PLANE TICKET TO GET THERE. That was when I couldn't even...process information anymore.
There are some analysis videos on TH-cam on the manic pixie dream girl trope that go into depth, they’re interesting, but yeah, they’re largely the things you said.
I watched this movie a month or so ago and I actually didn’t even consciously pick up on the sexism because all the characters were so artificial and detached from reality that I never felt like watching actual humans. If the last scene before the credits had showed them all with red Terminator eyes I’d probably have been “huh okay, guess that makes a bit more sense now” The only impressive thing about this movie is that Netflix has once again managed to beat the bar of how bad their movies can get. Whenever you think the bottom of the barrel of Netflix movies has been reached, the Netflix homepage seems to say “hold my algorithms”
DestinyKiller Netflix certainly won‘t lose me over a bad movie, but the middling quality of many of their productions is troubling. Especially when you consider the quality that the competition like Apple is delivering.
@Hunter Bradshaw last I checked, loads of people don’t find it funny and some can find it triggering because of trauma. Personally, I too don’t find it funny either, because what’s really funny about a man being put through trauma?
When I saw this movie I thought to myself. Rob Schneider must have some serious dirt on Adam Sandler.... Like, they murdered someone together or something. There is no other explanation I can think of for him allowing Rob to continually playing this horrible horrible HORRIBLE characters in his movies. 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️💩
I love how David Spade figures out that one haircut in his 20s and decided that yep, that’s the haircut forever. Definitely works on a man in or pushing his 60s.
It's just feels so weird about not only these weird and outdated stereotypes of women, but also using suicide as a plot device in the way they do. Especially if that previously suicidal character ends up in multiple near death scenarios caused by their own "savior". Edit: oml I just got to the part where she was just bungee jumping. I don't know if that's worse or better. I hate it here.
This is why it's been like a decade since we've had genuine, young, talented actors finally getting a break. These older actors are so entrenched, that they become the only thing we ever see.
It wouldn’t be so bad if they were actually good actors. But they aren’t so it’s twice as bad. I never understood why the horrible ones always get the longevity.
This movie felt like they combined "Just go with it" film with "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" except they just tossed a crazy women in it with seemingly no backstory or characteristics except being quirky. I guess it also goes with the manic pixie dream girl trope as she manages to "change" boring Tim who clearly didn't give a fuck about her to begin with. ALSO can we talk about the unconsensual sexual scenes where Missy just casually does stuff to Tim while he is sleeping?! Imagine the roles were switched and a crazy man just stuck his hands down a girls pants on the plane or started having sex with her while she sleeps EVERYBODY would be appalled. It's not funny at all and just makes Missy look like a sex-crazed molester. I'm disappointed because I actually do like a lot of Adam Sanders movies (even ones considered bad admittedly) but this movie was just a big, desperate mess of an attempt to scream at audience "WE'RE STILL FUNNY!!"
Lauren Lapkus is gem of a human and I'm honestly so happy for her to be in this film. I didn't like the plot story, but I could watch her be insane forever.

I honestly love adam sandler movies but on GOD, they've gotten awful in like the last 10-15 years. David Spade could have done this movie back when he did Tommy Boy You know, Back when he was closer to the actresses ages. I used to think he was cute back then so I could have bought it.
Just a small note here, when they did the establishing shot for the office building with the whole “3 months later” thing that was actually shot in Hawaii; I literally went to high school like a 5 minute walk from that statue. They do look alike, but their comedy style is very different. Lauren is far more absurdist and Chelsea would not do this role with the same insanity. Lauren did an incredible job.
Sandler said he wanted a mostly unknown actress and he worked with Lauren before and liked her.
It's honestly insulting to women because we have standards y'all-
@@ellietheunicorn7706 For real! And then they go throw absolutely no growth. Just like... no.
I mean if you look at her behavior, I can see why someone looking like her would have to settle for David Spade.
It’s hypocritical and sexist too
Adult equivalent of those movies parents put on to babysit their kids = perfect description of Happy Madison in recent years
“Anyway here’s an image of a woman violently getting injured”.
If you're drunk you're actually more likely to survive a fall from a 2 story building because you don't tense before hitting the ground.
Same theory on why drunk drivers usually survive unhurt, because they're drunk and don't tense against the crash
I learned this from American Dad
I love Lauren Lapkus so much. Her female improv group Wild Horses is real funny. And her 87 podcasts are hilarious, too. I knew she thought this would be her big break because of the names attached. But.. eek.
At least she's getting that Netflix coin!
Lmaooooo at “her 87 podcasts” that is so accurate. She deserves so much better than this tragedy of a movie.
Facts
There are some analysis videos on TH-cam on the manic pixie dream girl trope that go into depth, they’re interesting, but yeah, they’re largely the things you said.
I watched this movie a month or so ago and I actually didn’t even consciously pick up on the sexism because all the characters were so artificial and detached from reality that I never felt like watching actual humans. If the last scene before the credits had showed them all with red Terminator eyes I’d probably have been “huh okay, guess that makes a bit more sense now”
The only impressive thing about this movie is that Netflix has once again managed to beat the bar of how bad their movies can get. Whenever you think the bottom of the barrel of Netflix movies has been reached, the Netflix homepage seems to say “hold my algorithms”
Once the r@pe happened I turned it off (and it happened more than once!) - not for me homie
DestinyKiller Netflix certainly won‘t lose me over a bad movie, but the middling quality of many of their productions is troubling. Especially when you consider the quality that the competition like Apple is delivering.
@@Halbmond oh yes. There's more and more streaming choices with their own original shows that they need to compete better.
First of all how did you know about my secret red Terminator eyes
Oh my god that princess diana wig roast sent meeee
I can just hear Adam Sandler screaming at his tv, hands on hips “ITS A MOVIE!!” Lmfao yeah but it’s terrible. So.
She literally sexually assaults him in his sleep!!! Last I checked, sexual assault isn’t funny 🤷🏻♀️
Last I checked comedy is subjective and I found that scene hilarious.
@Hunter Bradshaw last I checked, loads of people don’t find it funny and some can find it triggering because of trauma. Personally, I too don’t find it funny either, because what’s really funny about a man being put through trauma?
It is for the guys that made the movie...
@@hunterbradshaw1995people laughed at lynching, if it’s morally wrong, ur heehee haha opinion is utterly irrelevant.
"people who made this movie are trying to play 5th grade level intelligence people who are also adult men"
So... You mean... adult men?
😂😂😂
My exact thoughts 😂
Adult str8 men. Gays can point out when something is cheaply pandering to them 😂
that is literally word by word what I scrolled down here to say lmao
Who hurt u? lmao
That poor aloe plant really sums up my feelings about this movie
hahahah
that plant sums up my current situation in life to be honest
Nick DiRamio pls it’s wilting
@Luna M He got a little plant stand for it and now it's safely in the corner.
I think they confused weed with hemp, which can't get you high
"zooey deschanel if she went to public school" i cried laughing
Honestly I’m so glad the algorithm finally decided to show me this channel, you’re funny asf.
I’m so glad too!!! Thank you so much 😘😘
When I saw this movie I thought to myself. Rob Schneider must have some serious dirt on Adam Sandler.... Like, they murdered someone together or something. There is no other explanation I can think of for him allowing Rob to continually playing this horrible horrible HORRIBLE characters in his movies.
🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️💩
I think Adam just has bad taste lol there’s only like one of his movies that I kinda liked...but I only liked it because of drew Barrymore lol
I love how David Spade figures out that one haircut in his 20s and decided that yep, that’s the haircut forever. Definitely works on a man in or pushing his 60s.
holdawn WHY WERE U ON THE SHARON OSBORNE SHOW
Right?? We need more information!
I need to know!
th-cam.com/video/_qXypUig97A/w-d-xo.html here is his commentary on the situation
Nothing better than a man standing up against misogyny ❤️💪🏻 I love u so much more now lol ✨✨✨
I watched this movie with my parent and felt so uncomfortable. God that was bad.
I mean these two little girls literally have Adams face
Yeah, that guy's not his son, I gotta find out who he is. Brother?
I'm disappointed because I actually do like a lot of Adam Sanders movies (even ones considered bad admittedly) but this movie was just a big, desperate mess of an attempt to scream at audience "WE'RE STILL FUNNY!!"
this review is as excellent as the movie is terrible, and I will keep saying so as many times as it takes for the video to stay uploaded
Hahaha thank you Jacob you the real mvp
Agreed
David spade withiut facial hair is another level of cursed
😭
You must be super young because he only wore facial hair late in his career. It's weird to see him with it for me 😅
When has he ever had facial hair?
Lauren Lapkus is gem of a human and I'm honestly so happy for her to be in this film. I didn't like the plot story, but I could watch her be insane forever.
Same she’s so fun
After watching your video, I think this type of dry comedy just isn't for you, but I don't think that makes it unfunny though.
Oh man, looks like I'm gonna have to watch this again, for the THIRD time. Starting to think you're behind these "takedowns" because you know how much we love you, and therefore are more than willing to spend ANOTHER 40 minutes hanging out with you. I'm on to you Nick....I'm on to you.
Hahah I promise I’m not that clever but I am DEEPLY grateful! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Well now you just gave him the idea
It is so boring how men literally put in the least amount of effort in their appearances and its accepted, yet woman are always expected to turn up as a bare minimum.
adam sandler and amy schumer content has the same energy just flipped
Oh that's so true
and thats interesting because, yes, its 100% true but like amy schumer is so much more hated??
@@coal1818 That's unfortunate because they deserve equal panning. Actually, Adam Sandler deserves it more because he's been making shit comedy for decades now
@@coal1818 because she’s a woman
@@annevanity3922 it doesn't always need to be about their gender... Amy Schumer is just more annoying to me, I don't think anyone cares about their gender here. They both do equally bad work. Adam Sandler has never been a comedic genius but he had his good moments in the 90s and Amy has always just been intolerable to me.
I love how you call out the sexism and talk about how they could have done things a different way to actually make it good while also cracking me tf up with your jokes. You are so genuinely funny ❤
Terrible movie.
I laughed so hard when you said “whoever this guy is” regarding Hurley from Lost. 🤣
This whole movie just has me thinking "ok pack it up Lele Pons". I don't know why she wasn't casted as Missy
I love how you actually give suggestions on how the story could be better. It’s like a script doctor almost.
I honestly love adam sandler movies but on GOD, they've gotten awful in like the last 10-15 years. They're all the same movie clichès, all have a female lead 20 years younger than their stale male lead, demean/sexualize female characters, and reuse the same lame characters that never change from movie to movie. Everything produced recently have pondered to middle age men who love white dad jokes and humour that's no longer a little edgy and just blatantly rude.

‘It’s like screwball comedy for people who’s brains are dying’ i almost spit out my drink
one the main reasons me and my best friend started getting close was because we realized we thought david spade was sexy 🤣🤣🤣 i dont know why and i cant explain it, but hes hot to me 🤷🏻♀️🤣
hahah i do not judge you for that, I feel that way about lots of character actors
Honestly I can see that. He looks bad in this movie but in general he looks like a charismatic middle age british dude (even if he's not british) a bit like Simon Pegg or Martin Freeman. It's a type.
I wash crushing hard on him in 8 Simple Rules.
Vile
No, he is, but I'm An Old so maybe my opinion doesn't really count 😅
The number one thing this so-so movie was was a deserved career move for Lauren Lapkus. Thanks for empowering her, Netflix.
finally, i get to consume the forbidden content
hahaha as is your RIGHT
:Zooey deschenel if she went to public school"....holy shit I have never been described so....so PERFECTLY!
Lauren has done a lot of improv and she is HILARIOUS! This movie did her dirty
I feel like Adam Sandler’s whole family was in this movie just so he could give them a free family vacation 🤦♀️
Just wanna point out that Jared Sandler is not Adam Sandlers Son, he's Adams Nephew. Other than that, Yes. I Agree with everything :D
“Chubby Dude With an Attitude 😎” should be on a bumper sticker
I’m surprised you didn’t mention how she sexually assaulted this guy two separate times?
You act like she is a real person who raped a guy...dudes wrote this movie, be mad at them.
I was having the WORST day yesterday, so much was going on. I was so happy to see a new video uploaded, it really helped me get 40(ish) minutes of stepping away from the chaos and having a good laugh.
I’m so glad the video helped give you a break from a tough day! I hope today is worlds better 🤗
my soul goes "wah" is now my favorite quote
the best part was when she fell off the cliff tbh
Lol I laughed too but how did she survive does she have a cartilage skeleton
Nick DiRamio my mom was like “but she hit her head the entire way down. is she a damn ghost now” 😭😭
I take GREAT comfort knowing there is someone out there that also buys two types of flavor, one now one later! A coworker told me to watch this movie but I’ve been putting it off then saw you uploaded 🍿 I’m here for it
I had the hugest crush on David Spade as a child…I still kinda do. We’re all allowed to have our kinks
Yasss feminism thank you for pointing this out, I've always felt this way about these movies. Like why are gorgeous women always with men who do not match them at all. Not saying looks are everything, but the male characters also tend to be just not funny or have anything special about them.
Side note, have you ever been told you look like Flula Borg? He was the german guy in Pitch Perfect 2
No, but I could see that!!
“I look down to you! Look at your shorts, they’re huge!” I ALMOST SPAT OUT MY DRINK
Nailed it with that "princess Diana's wig" comment
David Spade could have done this movie back when he did Tommy Boy
You know, Back when he was closer to the actresses ages.
I used to think he was cute back then so I could have bought it.
“it’s like screwball comedy for people who’s brains are dying” absolutely sent me
I love how you didn’t mention that Vanilla Ice was thrown in there
Hahah I was too excited to be done with the movie lolll
understandable 😂
Was he one of the many old men in this movie who'd need help carrying two briefcases?
I said it two other times, I'll say it again. Hell yeah good job my guy
lol thank you for all three times!!
All the dislikes are from Adam Sandler family members
"That's not a laugh, that's an embarrassed chortle."
I... sir... you...
"Zoey Deschanel if she went to public school" 😂
Yo idk why you re-uploaded this but thanks cuz it wasn’t loading for me yesterday ❤️
It got copyrighted twice, I think 😂
Just a small note here, when they did the establishing shot for the office building with the whole “3 months later” thing that was actually shot in Hawaii; I literally went to high school like a 5 minute walk from that statue. The entire time they’re talking about the whole trip to Hawaii thing feels absolutely hilarious to me when they used scenery and shots from Hawaii to establish non-Hawaii locations.
Can you do the movie “work it” on Netflix? It’s so awful I was screaming watching it.
I love that you don't just bash the film but you have ideas and critiques for how they could have made it work.
"Also, Phil Collins? It's like, okay boomer."
* Goes on to reference Bettlejuice and The Brady Bunch. * 🤣
It’s the fact that they were all in the movie grown ups for me
16:43 That's Hurley from Lost (Jorge Garcia). He's not whoever. 😫
He's forever one of the goofballs who can make no mistakes. 😅
lmaoo i must have been desperate during quarantine cause i sat through this whole movie
THIRD TIME IS THE CHARM... I hope.
Exactly what I said! 😂
I LOVE your reviews! They're always so funny, even if the movie you're reviewing isn't.
Watching it again, again. Feeling for you, hope this stays up! Great breakdown as per usual :)
You're the best!
"Adam Sandler, you don't get to talk down to me, I talk down to You. LOOK at your shorts, they're Huge"
This movie is incredibly similar to Man Up starring Simon Pegg and Lake Bell that came out five years prior. Coincidence? Hmm
