Flying Solo for the First Time! 12/23/2023 KLNS

- On December 23, 2023 I had my very first solo flight in a Cessna 172S. As a young kid aspiring to be a professional pilot, nothing made me more excited, then hopping in a plane all by myself and flying it around with just my knowledge and judgment. It all started back in January 2020 when I had my very first discovery flight, I loved it so much and knew I wanted to fly. As time went on, I was busy with school, sports, and family and didn’t pay much attention to flight school. I then started back up about five months ago really grinding out ground school and getting those hours. Hard work and dedication is what got me here today (aswell as a bit of $$$) but to say the least, I had a blast, and I’m really looking forward to what the future holds.

I don't think anything will ever beat what the first solo feels like.
I remember this surging of child-like excitement and freedom after takeoff. Once I was over 1000', it dawned on me that I was alone up there and felt this weight falling on my shoulders, then just total focus after.
Seeing the right seat empty really hit me..."it's all up to me now" I thought.
I felt the exact same way, as soon as I saw that altitude rise I was like “HELL YEAH ITS JUST ME”
Yep
I've always heard this, but my first solo was "just another day a the office." I was way over-prepared for it.
My instructor said I was ready and was pushing me to solo with very few hours... 7 or so. I wasn't feeling it. He kept pushing and I kept refusing. No self-confidence whatsoever. I ended up flying 3 different types of aircraft including a taildragger before I was finally willing to solo. And it was... completely underwhelming. Even with losing both vacuum pumps on my first solo lap, it was all just routine. I did my laps, then taxied the plane to the maintenance shop for the vacuum pump issue.
In hindsight, my instructor was 100% correct. Skill-wise, I was very much ready to solo at 7 hours. I just didn't know it myself.
Now, my first long cross country was a different story. I flew to my girlfriend's town 2 hours away for lunch, then flew back. Now that felt like an accomplishment.
Congratulations on your Solo! Your airspeeds were very good. Landings too. If I may offer a few suggestions: 1. Never Never play (heads down) with things while taxi / takeoff roll. All it takes is a second or two of losing your situation awareness to kill you. 2. Your bank angles were too steep. 3. Remove that checklist from the glareshield/window. It blocks the view you could use while flairing and also could dislodge and cause distraction. 4. On touchdown you are relaxing the controls. Fly the plane all the time, even on the ground until stopped. Again, you've done great, keep at it.

Some of the best cessna landings I've seen!
Nice job👍
Nothing beats that feeling of being PIC for the first time, did mine in August. Congrats bro!
Yessir thanks man
Hey I did mine in august too! KFXE in south Florida
@@derrick2251 heck yeah man
I'm a new student pilot and I can't wait for my first solo. Congrats on this hugeeee accomplishment!
Have fun with your flight training. I finished my long solo cross country yesterday! Oh man it was a great feeling
@@miguelrobb5719 thanks dude, i just finished one of my first flights two hours ago and it was amazing
Good success with your flying career,
Pilots are my favorite people!! I’ve flown 30+ years of business travel to 60 countries, logging 4,000,000 air miles. Flight crews get me safely to work and home again. I adore them. My uncle had his PPL. And a plane. Flew us often from the time I was little. So stay safe. Stay strong.
Thank you sir🫡
I want to learn how to be honest…. Buts it’s a bit frightening. Is it much more affordable to travel if you own your own airplane? Have you had any crashes or malfunctions in your 4,000,000 hours?
@@tommymc7535 try 50 hours and no I’ve not had any issues. This isn’t for Leasure I want to be a pilot when I’m older so it’s not like I’m throwing money away for a hobby it’s ganna be my future. Make sure to subscribe!!!
@@Aviation_777YT I was actually asking the commenter has he seems to have a crazy high number of miles in the sky.
But stay with it!! Being a pilot is a great career!

Very well executed. Congratulations and keep up the great work!!
Thank you! Will do!
Awesome job bud. What I wouldn’t give to be in your seat. I would fly with you anywhere. Congratulations

@@Aviation_777YT I sure did subscribe, first thing. I’ve always loved planes. But all I’ve ever accomplished is Microsoft Flight Sim and X-Plane. I feel I’m too old now, but man, I wish I had started flying lessons and went all the way.
I do have a real cool story, which is true. I grew up in the Quad cities, Moline Illinois to be exact. My father was the manager of a local dairy and ice cream plant. He was also on the chamber of commerce. Every year the Quad city airport would have an airshow , and among the annual flight teams, were the blue angels. My dad came home one night after work, and he had been given the job of accompanying the blue angels around in the evening and making sure they went to dinner, and had all of the hotel accommodations they needed. Mind you, I was 14 years old at the time and seemingly afraid of everything. He asked and I quote, how would you like to go up for a plane ride with one of the blue angels tomorrow? I was so afraid, wanted to so bad, but the chicken in me said no. That was way back when they were flying the F4 Phantom. Instead, about eight weeks later, I got a cardboard tube in the mail. Inside was a poster which I unrolled, and it was a picture of the flight team, all of them, with their autographs. On the top, it said to Mark, Future navy fighter pilot. I still have it framed, and hanging on my bedroom wall. I have regretted that decision of saying no every day for the rest of my life since. Please, always follow your dream. But also, please always be safe. Thank you for reading this, but I figured you might find it interesting. Take care.
Smooth!!! You were meant for this!!!
Yeh I was so stoked to do my solo last winter and lived the adrenaline since it was a crosswind for me but it was one of the best feelings after the third landing! Now having my ppl it’s a whole new freedom to enjoy!
Congratulations on your solo! Great job keeping your cool and talking yourself through the processes. After 700+ flight hours I still remember my solo! Get used to burps and the other thing, especially the higher you go! Again, congratulations and look forward to your content. Remember, Aviate, Navigate and Communicate - fly first and let the content take care of itself :) New sub!
Thank u man I really appreciate the kind words and the sub!!🫡
Yessir! Good luck with the rest of PPL
Thanks man!
Congratulations! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Congrats! Take as much time as needed, and most importantly, fly with as many pilots as you can. It's amazing how much you can learn from the right or back seats. Even if it's what not to do. Also, don't pull a TNFlyGirl... put the cameras down (no TH-cam) and learn to fly. I've always flown with a GoPro over-the-shoulder, but I use it for flight reviews and a poor-man's black box, not social media.
Congratulations my boy!!!
Ye boi the channel is blowin up

Great center touch down!
Forgive me for being so late, but WOW dude. You did so amazing!! You seem so confident and fearless. Along with that, your personality is gonna take you a long, long way in life. Plenty of pilots I’ve been around have very humorous personalities, and it seems like you’ve nailed that aspect. I don’t know the first thing about flying planes, but what I do know is that with a ton of hard work, dedication, and focus anything is possible. As an aspiring orchestral conductor and concert pianist, I know what it takes to reach the top, and you have to work tirelessly to get there. They say “nothing easy is worth doing.” Very true. Anyway, congratulations. You deserve to be endlessly proud of yourself!!
@@andymilstenmusic8520 thank you I really appreciate that
@@Aviation_777YT Ofc man. One more piece of advice, never stop learning, and always be curious for more.

Yessir I lucked out it was only me and one other dude flying!
I used to live near to the York airport KTHV and I went to an air show out at KLNS. Such a cool small world. Well done on your first solo!

I flew to Lancaster for a night cross country a year ago out of TTN, where I do my training. Good job! This is the beginning of where the REAL fun is. In fact the first solo cross country was a lot more fun for me!

Haha I was thinking the same thing when I said that🤣
Congratulations. Nice job. Keep an open mind to learning and always have a Plan A, Plan B and sometimes a Plan C.
Thank you sir
Loved every minute of this video - took me back 35 years. When he started singing AOK on the base to final turn on landing 2 was the best moment. All of that awesomeness said, as well as congratulations. 2 minor criticisms, first I would gently say I noticed he hyper focused on the instruments, not sure if that wed just the edit, but not a lot of time spent looking outside from the looks of the video. Second minor criticism, the Dallas Cowboys did not in fact win the Super Bowl, so that must mean this young man doesn't have very good prediction skills!

I found out I was about to do my first solo when I was about to add full throttle for take off. My instructor said wait a minute and opened his door and got out. He just said you're ready, do three take offs and landings, closed the door and walked away.
Hahahaha that seems like something Joe Pentz would do!!
I remember it well… thinking..geez this thing climbs better without him….
Well done dude!
Thank you
Ay nice job! Hoping to solo sometime soon 🙏
Have fun!
Sensacional.

Terrific!!!!!!! You could not have looked more excited. Were you flying out of Lancaster County Airport? I used to teach at Lancaster Country Day School and took lessons at the airport. It was a super place to learn. My good friend graduated college four years ago as an engineer and then, I helped him decide to become a commercial pilot. He is flying now and starts with Alaska Airlines in the spring. Go Go Go!!!!!! Your future looks really exciting.

Young man consider forgetting the video world…focus on flying the aircraft
I thought I did pretty well, didn’t really know the cameras were there half the time.
Also I feel like talking through the things that I’m doing helps me learn and having a camera there to talk to (u guys) gives me someone to explain it to. So it helps me out a lot.
He isn't looking at the cameras at all though? He is literally just speaking himself through what he is doing which has nothing to do with the camera. The cameras are simply there.
Young man. Listen to Walter!
Aren't you scared of what could happen if the plane fails, even of something as simple as metal fatigue which is often undetectable? Aren't these planes maintained by overworked and underpaid mechanics? I want to be a pilot but there are too many hands in the kitchen and people are unreliable.
I see what ur saying but it’s a small flight school that only has so many planes and has very good mechanics
