To be honest, I didn't know that Coop played in Italy after the NBA. This video shows that he was so much more talented than people give him credit for. He could be a legit playmaker on a team without GOAT playmaker.
Yeah, he didn't want to play for another franchise besides the Lakers and received a good offer in Italy and they assign the playmaker role there. Sometimes people talk about that What if, the 91 finals vs Bulls, Cooper defending Jordan, he wasn't at his prime but still valuable for that task.
Without Coop, Lakers didn’t just lose terrific defense, a big-time spark (and even leader) off the bench, decisive spot-up shooting, great energy plus athleticism, clutch play... but also a very important backup playmaker/passer/ball-handler (primarily while Magic was off the floor); and - in my opinion - that was a considerable “hole” for the 1991 Lakers.
