  • To celebrate 2nd year of the channel, I selected the best blocks from all the highlights I collected during this time. Tough to choose and make a list but the point is to showcase Cooper's defense and athleticism and enjoy with some spectacular plays! Which was your favorite?
Do you have any Showtime Lakers complete game that is not on TH-cam already? Feel free to contact me, so I would be glad to get Coop highlights.

Here more blocks discovered months after the video was made that should have made the cut:
Block on Alvin Robertson dunk: th-cam.com/video/9YOPierPSAM/w-d-xo.html
Block on Bill Walton jumper: th-cam.com/video/Rh9mobBpKx8/w-d-xo.html

Is there any other player in history under 7 foot that can claim highlight blocks against Jordan, Bird, Wilkins, and Larry Nance? Coop was always my favorite Laker. Nice to see people haven’t forgot about him. Nice video.

Thank you, nice statement, I would add to this top 5 blocking the leading scorer of the 80s, Alex English, with that high-release jump-shot: twitter.com/CooperShowtime/status/1253408693900775425

Cooper worked hard on defense. A student of the game. He never stopped trying to be a better player.
He was eventually a very good point guard behind Magic. Then ofcourse the 3pt shot became a big part of his game.
For blocked shots though ill always remember one on Dale Ellis to win a game. Coming around a screen. Ellis had one of the quickest releases in the game.

The one against Ainge is filthy. He's BACKPEDALING! My favorite Laker growing up, and now he's bound for the Hall. Time to hang another jersey in the rafters!

Wow, fantastic video! My favorite is the one against the Jazz when he stopped 4 on 1 fastbreak. Of course the first one against Nance is classic.

Thank you! That play was huge, even better with Chick Hearn noticing the 4 on 1. I think it deserves a separate video, I'll upload it.

Larry Nance was 6’10’’ with a tremendous wingspan, a freak athlete, huge paws, could jump out of the gym, strong, very explosive, one of the GOAT dunkers... I mean, he would posterize ANY bigmen and such. Then you got Coop, who was like 6’6”, 175 lb... coming up from behind Nance on a fastbreak, to block his dunk face-to-face; that’s just unreal!

    • @CooperShowtime
      @CooperShowtime  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@BasketballJones48021 Yeah, for that reason I have it at number one. I'd like to add that also he comes from the back and went to the same direction of Nance so I figure some physicist can breakdown the play but it was amazing as the inertia makes him went away from Nance so it loses the strength and positioning but it was a magnificent ability, blocking very high, and no fear, tenacity. I know many people talks about the Dr. J dunk when Cooper's named and I understand cause it was a phenomenal dunk but this block on Nance was the other way around, deserves to be mentioned too and there isn't even a good quality clip haha

CooperShowtime - Michael Cooper Highlights Yes, great choice! And also very true what you’ve added about that particular block. Yeah, wish there was a better quality clip of it, with even more angles and such...

That block at 4: 23 takes the cake. BLOCKING the shot even though there was a screen. My goodness.

So many don't realize how good he was. And he wasn't a one trick pony by any means. He contributed in all areas. Excelled in some.
Frankly, he had more value than some who were All Stars. Especially in a team sense.

One of the best shot-blockers ever for a perimeter player. Just legendary the way he would size you up, find the right angle, come out of nowhere, and even when he used to recover his position... to make a spectacular block. That takes tons of defensive awareness and fundamentals, athleticism, and just pure will and hustle, never giving up on any play. Also, he could be glued to his defensive assignment, which of course, no matter how good you are, leads to getting blown by more... but time and time again, players would think they got the best of Coop (due to that), and - at the last second - he would be there blocking their shot. Amazing! Thanks for the upload.

He blocks so effortlessly with tremendous athletism and he can sprint also. Wondering why his jersey hasn't been retired by the Lakers.

I remember being fascinated watching cooper play as kid. He could run and leap better than everyone back in the day and always coming up with big defensive plays.

What I loved about Coop is the way he angled himself, to not foul. His timing was impeccable and unlike today, where guys block shots and send it out to the fans and the opposing team still gets another shot, Coop was old school. Tried to keep the ball in play so that his team would get the ball. It is a lost art what he did. Amazing player. He was like a ballet dancer. Smooth, precise and no movement was wasted.

This puts Dr. J's famous dunk on Coop into significant view. Given how many times Coop had blocked so many great players on a drive to the basket, who knows how many people actually thought Coop would've blocked the Doctor. Even more impressive on the Doctor's part that he did slam it home on one of the best defensive players ever to play the game.
