A few months ago I picked up this 2004 Hyundai Tiburon GT. This is going to be the first car I ever mod! Having owned about 6 cars at this point and never following through on the mods I wanted to do, it's about time we start wrenching on a car.
I picked up this car for a whopping $1,500. It gets better...
I bought this car from the original owner
I have every maintenance record since new
The car has approximately 80,000 miles on it
I even have the original sales receipt and window sticker
I scored big on this one! At least, I did on my opinion.
Now I understand what a lot of you are thinking. "It's just a Tiburon, what's the big deal?" Well, the goal was to create a fun summer car that wasn't going to break the bank. With car prices nowadays, that's damn near impossible I think we can all agree. But the Tiburon is different, it's unique. You don't see many of them around and when you do, they are usually clapped out rust buckets because people abuse them! I love the look of this car. The lines and shape remind me of a sports car that just screams early 2000's. I don't care that it only has 175 horses from the factory, it's exactly what I was looking for. It's definitely not a car that enthusiasts are raving to get their hands on...but I think one day these will increase slightly in value. Maybe I am wrong. But I didn't buy this car for that reason. I bought it to have fun, and fun is what we're gonna have!
Since ownership I have done about $1,000 in basic maintenance to make sure we were ready to mod. Brakes, oil changes, passing inspection, etc. With all the boring stuff done, it's time to mod!
Here in part #1 we do the most simple bolt on you can do, an air intake. I purchased mine from eBay for around $50. All the parts that came with mine are in the video! Even though this won't give us any power increases, it will hopefully help the car breathe a bit and free up some space under the hood. And let's be honest, if we can get a few whoosh whoosh noises then I'm in!

The Tiburon was my highschool attainable dream car. I never got to own it but I still have a crush on it. I used to be able to draw the whole front end from memory haha. Gonna start binge watching your series now! Subbed!

As an 03 Tib owner myself I cant wait to see the progess, theyre neat little cars. Mine needs a new door handle too lol. The previous owner's 4 year old child ripped it out.

I have an 04 Tib with 85k miles on it as well that's in lovely condition. I wish you lived close to me in FL to help me figure out how to mod this thing because I really want to make her look pretty and amp up the performance. Always a pleasure to see other Tibs on the road that aren't beat the hell up.
Oh hell yes! Ik brother, I wish I had fellow Tib owners close by so we can help each other out. have many plans for this car, I just have to stay patient and not rush things. Especially for my wallets sake ;)
Dude you guys are so lucky. My Tiburon is a 2008 with a 2.0 and 229k miles and it was in multiple accidents. It has an air intake and now I'm working on the exhaust but she looks so rough, the right fender got sideswiped and the door fitment is a little off as a result

Good to hear from another Tib owner! I was able to snag this in the Fall. Good time to look is just before winter imo. That goes for any sports car or motorcycle. Many don't want to pay for storage especially if they are just gonna buy a different one come next Spring. So I imagine it was a combo of the season as well as the older gentleman I bought it from. He was a pretty cool guy who didn't necessarily need the money!

It's a good looking car that should be faster than it is. I wouldn't mind getting one some day and work on it since I've very little experience in car modifications, so I think a car like this would be perfect to start considering you probably won't really lose much out of it.

Tiburons will usually throw a code after installing CAI/SRI, have to get it re-tuned & it's good to go
Good luck dude. I have an 06 GT same color. The paint is beautiful when polished. In the last year I had to replace all the door handles inside and out. Painted the outs and the tank door. Those are the first to chip. Unfortunately I just dropped it off at the shop because I couldn’t fix the ABS and Check engine light being on. Scanned it, replaced the trans temp sensor and wheel speed sensor. Still on… that’s the extent of my auto knowledge, had to take it in to check for a short somewhere😑

Hello! I'm sorry to tell you that's a bad idea. There it only gets hot air. I have the same car and I put the filter all the way down, between the bumper and the wheel.

What currency is 1500 😵💫 cheapest I been looking at in NZ is 3500NZD for a legal one, goes around 5-8k here for a decent condition tiburon haha

Was never a fan of the later versions of the Tiburon. In my eyes...the first gen Tibby was the only one worth getting. The first series had the best look by far.
I had a 99 and loved it, despite it being a beater. Went looking for another first Gen but ended up with an 05 GT and love it even more.

I think what he means, and I suggest the same : change your short ram intake for a real cold air intake, for the good of your engine.
(I own a GT V6 too 😉)
what is the main difference between the stock intake and what you installed in this vid? is it just the sound, or does something happen because of the new one's design? i am completely car stupid but I just got me a 08 tibby and I'm trying to decide what to start with first lol, also, subbed! :)

Yeah agreed. The short ram is pointless, I will be getting a true cold air soon
This is a bad idea. The intake is not at a good spot. It needs ran down further to be able to gather COLD air. At that spot it will gathering hot air and hurting performance overall. I ran mine all the way down to in front of the drivers side tire where it will gather cold air. This mod is not an upgrade, it's a downgrade done like this
