Good advice here. It's easy to think other licenses have cleaner races, which isn't always the case. Learn to dodge the mistakes of others in the rookies and don't sweat your iRating.
Definitely David - and totally agree re iRating!
Anywhere north of 1.5 K should for the most part offer cleaner racing regardless of series
You can’t dodge them all. Just get your rating up and out of the lower fields.
Couldn't have explained it better myself! Great guide that everyone on iRacing really should watch
Ah thanks Reece buddy!
This advice is absolutely correct. I race the IndyCar and Super Formula now, but I learned almost all the fundamental skills for them in the FF1600 series. Those earlier series are so crucial for learning foundational skills like weight transfer and spatial awareness.
Nice video and I would agree. I rushed thru the oval ranks to A and was very slow. Went back to D running Late Models and ARCA to learn the car and get competitive. I do think that focusing in on a car and track type that you enjoy is the best way.
Thanks Sam and for the ongoing support buddy! Hey you’ve reminded me that I’m overdue dipping back in to a bit of oval…
I would always recommend some oval racing. Worth checking out the ARCA series which is basically an early 2000's NASCAR and very very tricky to master @@Ben_LaBroca
Strongly agree with 100% of your advice here. I don’t know that it can be explained any better. This should live within iRacing’s core instruction videos.
Ah thanks man - really appreciate it
i resubbed this week to iracing for the first time in about 8 years, and was pleasently suprised to find that im B license for ovals and road.
I'll be moving to road license A at the end of the current season.
Dont Rush is the best advise. I improved massively by taking a step back once I got to A and learnt again from bottom up
Cheers Tom - hope you’re well buddy!
I started over month ago , I’m a c in sport cars , b if I do my mrp races , but Ferrari gt3 races is where it’s at!
I can’t wait for season 4. When it goes live, my road license should go from B to A and I’m looking forward to seeing what opens up for me. It can be frustrating, but it’s always a lot of fun
Good luck for the new season Emily - hopefully see you on track sometime!
@@Ben_LaBroca Thank you! Good luck to you as well! I’d be so stoked to see you on the track
Most guys I know started loving this game to now consumed by IR and SR and pay little attention to the actual racing. This has made playing with them almost impossible.
I went through this too - to the point I didn't want to race too much in case I lost rating. I've now consciously moved on from caring about it at all. It's just a tool to match you with other drivers of similar speed - the racing is what matters!
I agree it helps to keep the idiots from diving or trying things they wouldn't I just don't like how it turned some friends into IR junkies lol
What is IR and SR?
When I came over Xbox ACC my priority was speeding through the licences to unlock the GT3. It was a year or two later I discovered some of the free cars are actually very good, and if you get a free car/circuit combo, you’ll get some decent grids too. I’d also say don’t ignore the TCR’s that usually gets decent grids. In fact I’d go as far as saying the TCR and GT4 series go well together, and they often share the same circuits.
Yeah totally empathise with this Ian - I ended up going back down through the classes too! And great point on TCR - really enjoy watching your races in that series!
Set yourself a goal. That's the most important thing. Whether it be a lap time for every race of the season or your place in the standings at the end of the season. Practice Practice Practice. With the amount of information available to you, there's no excuse for sucking so bad. If you're coming into this with a 'it's just a game' mindset, you've already failed yourself and the drivers around you.
Great vid, thanks. I'm fairly new to Iracing and there is not a lot of content giving actual "career advice" (feels weird calling it that!). I've just purchased the Super Formula after running F4 the previous month. GT4 is also tons of fun and very challenging, considering how "easy"GT3 racing is on ACC. I would highly recommend the GT4 endurance races. In those you are racing your own will and concentration more than the competitors, a great challenge!
Thanks man! GT4 is one of the best classes in iracing full stop I think - huge grids, great racing!
Agree 100% that people focus too much on getting out of rookies. I would just add that you don't have to "move up" at any level. Some of the best series and cars are in the D and C license classes. Just enjoy them and learn. I went all the way to A road, and then made my way back to TCRs. The slower stuff is more fun to me.
Very good point Dave - especially as there is great variety in race formats for some of those cars - 15 min fixed, 30 min open, Michelin Pilot Series etc
I've played iR for some time now, but this made me realize that in the future I'd like to take part in more shorter races. Long races are cool and all, but if the ir gain at the end will be the same no matter the race length then I'd try to get away with running as short of a race as possible until I have so much irating that keeping on running those races will not result in big ir gains anymore
why do you care about the irating that much, any benefit to have a higher irating?
@@gtertgvsdfv4904 just more swag
Some cracking advice once again Ben!!
You definitely become a better driver by specialising in a particular area as each has its own niche skill elements.
Great video. Right now I have hard time to win races in f4. My goal running a full lmp series
Thanks Daniel! I found just surviving F4 races was often a challenge! 😅
For beginners in Rookie class. Learn the map. Ride as many equal times as possible without pushing the edge. Don't chase the fastest lap. In the Rookie class, front positions are more of a disadvantage. Usually someone will dive bomb you in first lap. The most wins I've had after qualifying in 8th place (I deliberately screwed up the qualification) was when I just ran constant times and avoided everyone by a big arc. Most people can't fully concentrate for ten laps. So if you do all the laps with almost no mistakes. You'll have a good position at the end and a good safty rating.
Couldn’t have said it better myself
The temptation to just skip all the juniour formulas after racing GT's because of Super Formula, after watching this you brought me back to reality, not a fan of the Ray1600 or the Vee so might have to try the F4 car after this season.
Ah sorry if I thwarted your purchase plan! There’s no doubt F4 will teach you the chaos of open wheel racing on iRacing though!
@@Ben_LaBroca Common sense would have got me anyway.
I’m going FF1600 / F4 / Super Formula…who’s with me.
Very nice road map!!
@@Ben_LaBroca Thanks
Perfect video ❤❤❤ for Iracing progression
was waiting for this, thanks :)
Great video loads to think about with the way to go in my career
Iracer some 2009, and classe A since very long time, the série i didn't most time right now is the gr86. Getting in the fastest cars is not necessary to have fun. May be even the opposite
good advices Ben :) nice video buddy :)
Thanks Bogy mate - hope you’re good!
@@Ben_LaBroca ❤️
A pairing you might consider at the D level is the Skip Barber and Mustang Skip Barber. They run the same tracks and at opposite ends of the hour. Giving you an open wheel and tin top with one set of track purchases and two cars.
That’s an awesome tip Kevin - thanks mate!
Nice video mate👌 good advice for sure
About a year ago, I rushed to a C license. Haven’t raced road class since. I’m wanting to now learn how to race road better. Should I go back to rookies or spend time on the Ferrari fixed?
My goal is to get to a decent GT3 and F3 level.
Thank you for the guide
@@Tymonello ah you’re very welcome buddy. Hope you’re enjoying iracing!
@@Ben_LaBroca today no, as my last two races ended on first laps by other people mistakes, but in general I do, this is my first online racing experience, and it is amazing
@@Tymonello ah sorry to hear that buddy - hope you get better luck. Feel free to join our discord - lots of new and experienced sim racers hang out there 👍
The D series F4 and USF2000 are so much better then rookie. I’m still on my first month and find rookie so ridiculous because of the lack of etiquette most in rookie have. I got my D license after a week in rookie and haven’t looked back.
I got out of rookies in one day with 3 races. Just make all of your turns clean and don’t care about going faster than you should
I literally did 4 races. With incidents; 4, 2, 9, 1.
Now I'm at 3.68SR in rookie. So it's free to get out of Rookie
i spent a total of 3 days in rookies, when i bought the game less than a week ago. Im already D class and got hit with a -0.11 instantly
I would had love to see the class A F1, good vid tho
Just started my iracing career and loving it, any tips for understanding the ui?
Top split rookie is very clean
I’ve never gotten into those races but I’m tempted to experience it now!
Unrelated, I downloaded your paint for the SF and I won my first race in it, coincidence??? Haha
Ah mate!! A La Broca livery has not won a race in my hands for a long long time!! I’m glad it’s brought someone some luck! 😂🏆
@@Ben_LaBroca it’s pretty simple in SF. Don’t die on the start. And stay away from people 😂 follow me for more tips and tricks!
@@the_real_beaker_ 😂😂
@@Ben_LaBroca got one in the P cup at Montreal too and lmp3 at Aragon as well 😬😬😬 want to make one for the caddy gtp? I could use some extra luck there 😂
@@the_real_beaker_ better yet, I’ll just give you my log in details!
it's also an opportunity to realize i would rather have a boat than pixel tracks
Im mainly a formula driver and just got my D class liscense. I have no idea what to do next, i rushed not gonna lie but i wanna know what tracks and cars should i buy for somebody who is an idiot
I just got out of rookies after like 3 mazda races but I definitely feel I moved up too quickly
The F4 cars move around so much that if either I or anyone around me so much as brakes 2 metres too late or has a tiny bit of lateral load in the braking zone, both our cars crumple like tin cans.
As someone who has done plenty of sim racing at a high level (just below professional esports) in leagues in other sims, but still a beginner in iRacing, does anyone have any advice in how to improve my control over circumstances in cars that move around a lot like F4s and FF1600 etc?
In class b....better super formula or lmp2. Thanks
if Im playing class d while i have a class c license and when i get the 4.0 sr will i get promoted to class b or do i need to race in class c to get promoted to class b
This game is so expensive man. I've spent like $100 and only raced 3 road courses.
I agree
Cheers Ewen!
Naah, i will jump from F4 to SF23 next season, i don't have money to spend on another car
Yeah that’s totally fair enough buddy - the SF is faaaaaantastic!
dont know! its not writen on book you win even you pro. there other players that crash bump you off lol
The gt4 was a waste of money for me. Super boring to drive
tip don't do it. avoid iracing
So am I understanding correctly that you cannot just hop first game ever full throttle in an F1 race ? You have to progress up to higher tiers ?
im too broke to continue playing iRacing
Get to the work
Sorry to hear it chief - there’s definitely cheaper options out there!
i would NOT recommend the gr86. it is barely faster then the mazda and has very minimal feel which makes it more like your driving to a formula sheet then by feel.
Great advice! Taking time is key 🤌
Thanks buddy!
