Ligier LMP3 is my top pick. Probably the hardest car to be quick in on the sim but also the most rewarding. Incredible model and sound, likes to spin if you step a toe over the line, and just fast enough to really enjoy any track. I wish there were more series for it though. I think a lot of people are scared of trying it haha
The only 5 you REALLY need are: Ferrari 296, any GTP, Porsche Cup, F3, and then your pick for #5. Spend the rest of your money on tracks. Thank me later 😅
Amg gt4 & the civic type r tc are great picks as well.
Why F3 over F4?
Once the Dallara 324 launches with 2024S2, it will probably overtake (heh) F3 in popularity
F4 also has the new regional stuff, such a great car!
Hey Ollie, enjoy the channel! Every new season of iracing I usually pick a car and series and commit to it. This season I've chosen the Toyota GR86 in the multi class Sim Lab Production Car challenge. 25 minute race every hour which lets you do back to back races with 10-15 minute break between races. Some of the battles I've enjoyed have been epic and , equally, chaotic! Throw in the Mazdas that don't handle as well but have superior top speed keep things....er...interesting. A challenge to maintain IR and SR for sure. A quick mention for the F3 car as well. A very rewarding car to drive.. Cheers!

So glad you said about Dallara at Daytona. That was first track I drove with it and I suddenly felt live a five year old trying to put an IKEA cabinate together. But then we did the Glen 6hrs and it was amazing. But daytona put me off doing the imsa series.
All great choices for the road side of iRacing! For oval racing, I'd strongly recommend the following two for some of best racing you can get:
1) ARCA/Gen 4 Chevy Stock Car. Not only it's two engine packages for one purchase, but you'll have some of best oval racing possible with this car. And it will teach you how to be successful in any of NASCAR series.
2) 1987 NASCAR Stock Car. Just such a brilliant car from the old days of NASCAR and it has a very strong community. Plus, the racing is just fantastic and very rewarding for simple, but differing strategies too.
Agree with the first 3 all day long, I just haven't had much of a chance to get to know the Cadillac or LMP2!
Just got out of rookies after my first 3 races and been looking at the F4 and Ferrari 296, good to see you think they are good entry buys as well

Only Need dirt late model. If you really suck you can start on the limited and move up to supers. Always popular and runs on the best surface for racing!

The Super Formula is a god tier car too. Its also pretty hard to drive fast but extremely rewarding, the first like 2 laps on cold tires are straight up scary. I instantly fell in love with the thing when I test drove it and it moved around like crazy and wanted to kill me at every turn, I love that, it's like a formula car version of the Porsche Cup car which is my other big love on iRacing.
The best car ever is missing!😊 The Skippy is the best open wheeler to learn the skills you need and one of these cars in that you can have epic races as a iRating-driver from 500 and if you reach 9000 you will still have mor fun with it.
Wish I'd heard this before Ollie, last few weeks I've bought cars thinking they'll be good to drive but ohhh dear I've bought some way out of my abilities and I run out of skill very quickly 😮

Check if there are still active series for them to make sure that you can race in ranked races with others. But besides that. Just go with what you like.
I need help.... I do a decent amount of sim racing, and I'm ok on acc.... most of the time, I'm within a second or less of the pros, but when I race on Iracing, I'm way off like 2 to 3 sec in the 296 Ferrari. Like spa, for example, acc I do hi 2.17s all day my best low 217. Iracing my best is a low 2.19. and I find it super frustrating. I feel like I don't put enough input into the steering. I feel like I'm fighting iRacing, but in ACC, it just comes naturally. I use ddpro 13900kf 4090.
I am super slow in the Dallara P217, but it's fun to drive.
Also, your chapters refer to this as the Ferrari P217.

In my opinion I'd swap the gtp car fro something else, like gt4 or lmp3, or maybe super formula if it maintains popularity.

I've finally got a PC capable of running iRacing and am so conflicted about whether to dive down the rabbit hole
if your confliction is the money, its like getting a AAA game every few months or so . Tracks are like buying 6 beers or so. People go out one night clubbing and spend more money than they would ever spend in 6 months on IRacing - At Least in westernized countries. Im aware that a night out in Asia or South America is dirt cheap.
One you have made an initial yet savvy investment on a good amount of tracks and a couple of cars (dont do what i did and buy lots of cars) , you dont spend much at all .

@@thefourfourfour9512 totally agree with you. If you are into sim racing you will not be disappointed. It seems like a lot of money at first but well worth it. Only mistake I made was using the new members 40% discount for 3 months instead of 2 year 😂 but never mind!

This is perfect timing! I just picked up iRacing this month and got to Class D pretty quickly through the MX-5 Rookies, and I'm finding that just having to buy a new track every week to keep racing is adding up quickly, so keeping the car purchases down is actually really important. Literally $45 today just to race in the current Ferrari, MX-5, and GR86 tracks. And I bought Spa for the Ferrari on Monday forgetting that the tracks were about to change, so that was another $15!

Honestly the MX5 is still one of the best series on the service I still race it at A license cause it’s one of the few series that still sees hundreds of people participating every hour so the racing is very close and a lot of fun.
The good thing about this is I don't think you'll regret the purchase of Spa long term. 😁
@@AdrianJSClark oh for sure! I also don’t regret picking up Sebring, considering I just saw my first GT3 race there in person this past weekend and it’s only a couple hours from my house. It’s wild to be “driving” a local raceway like that
@@RyanBecker Awesome! For me personally Sebring is fine, I don't really get on with it though. Might be different if it was local to me, though.
None of my local race tracks are really worth iRacing scanning in my opinion. Qld Raceway is pretty boring (flat, very similar corners all around) and while both Lakeside and Morgan Park have lots of history but are way too small-time/local.
the upfront investment is worth every penny , when you compare it with AAA games like NBA 2 k which is 150 for the legendary edition bs , and then you are forced to pay for VC which is another 50 to level your player up and then theres seasonal passes this year. for 20 a pop.. thats your yearly iracing subsciption paid for and then some (if u use black friday discount offers for iracing renewals) , so every car and track you buy is just a bonus for the future. Especially tracks. When in doubt , buy tracks with multiple uses .. Road/Rally . nOr even road, rally, ovals.

how'd you get the headlights yellow on the ferrari?
Don’t quote me on this but i think in imsa it changes the headlights to indicate it’s a slower class to the other classes at night
@@vincekussy9364 ya it definitely does but I’ve seen people run yellow in the vrs series with only gt3. I just like how it looks so I’d like to run them if I can

Paying fees to begin with, I think it is terrible to make people pay for cars.
I don't like having to pay sub plus content on top, which is not great. BUT, the fact is the sim is simply the best in physics, feeling, amazing racing, and anytime of day or night. I struggle to go back to other sims. Why not give it a try for yourself. Currently motorsport uk are doing a deal where if sign up for 1 year for £25 you also get 1 year iracing membership.
