For all the love I have for open wheel cars I'm ashamed to say I've never driven the Indycar 😅 I need to give it a go as you're another I've seen who speaks so highly of it.
Please do! Would love to see it on your channel. That car is such a joy to drive! It’s oval for this week, but back to road course next week at Mugello
I tried it in test drive, it feels mich better on street tracks than the SF23. I'd say SF23 is better on everything Grade A, while Indycar can handle the bumps, hugh curbs etc better
I've started watching your channel quite a bit and I am surprised you haven't driven the IndyCar! DRIVE IT DRIVE IT DRIVE IT you gotta try it out! IndyCar is in a huge boom period on iRacing ever since they re-established their license with the series; there are three weekly series, a year-long full-length race series that follows (as closely as iRacing can) the real schedule, and of course the Indy 500. I would love to see you try out the oval side in particular. But regardless of track type, I think it's the most rewarding car to drive on iRacing; really makes you feel like you've truly earned your result at the end of a race. Also, it has a great community around it. I'm always a bit disappointed in how toxic some of the drivers are in F4, F3, now Super Formula Lights... You'll hear fewer shouting matches over voice chat in IndyCar.
I started iRacing expecting to get in to the sports cars, turns out I was going to prefer the open wheel cars so much more. They're very fragile, but they take up less space, they turn on a dime and they feel so connected to the road.
Been on iracing for over 3 years now and first time trying the IR-18 this season. Instantly fell in love with it and looking forward to the oval racing this week.
This is very helpful. I've been focused almost exclusively on GT3s for the last couple of years and thinking of dipping my toes into formula cars. This will help me focus on one series.
Your opinions are correct, sir! Especially regarding the IndyCar. Although people shouldn't be so quick to stop with the old F3 car. Its still a great car to drive and race. If you own it, no reason to stop racing it!
I've just started playing with the Super Formula light, great car and a worthy upgrade from the old F3. That and the F4 will be my open wheel gotos for now.
Great video! I recently went back to Iracing and still haven't done a single race on it. I just got lost in all the content and did not know where I should focus on. I do GT3 on ACC and I am also on LMU and AC for other classes, but I wanted to do some open wheel racing. This video helped me to understand what content to get
Great video! I’m new to the channel at how you only have 10k subs?! The content is great! I also was on the straw on wether buying the super formula light but now I think it’s worth a try. Thanks!
At the entry level, still nothing beats the old good USF2000. It is very agile, not too much downforce so it requires a delicate touch and good feel. and smoothness Unlike the F4 and even more the SFL, where you can just throw the car around hit the throttle all the way, and the grip and downforce will almost always save you. Plus the driving standards in the USF officials are pretty decent.
I've just returned to iRacing and I've gone and bought the F4 because the FF seems to be cursed with rain so far this season. I am in love with this car! New car, new track and 15 laps in I'm 4 seconds off the pace at Mugello. I can feel the car has so much more to give. I'm excited to get to know this car and the racecraft it will teach me
I know it's super old, and participation is not huge, but the skip barber is still an all time favorite of mine. And I'd mention the ff1600 as an even more entry level option before f4. I know it doesn't have any downforce, but it is still classified as formula, and it's also already hosting ranked sessions in the rain! Otherwise, agree with everything here! Keep up the great work Ben!
I agree. The Skip Barber has slipped in participation because of all of the newer formula cars, but it has a loyal base and the racecraft is above-average.
Man the new super formula light is a lovely car to drive. So intuitive and stable. I can control it better than the F4 or F3 cars even with very little time in it so far.
FF1600 is super fun on smaller tracks, especially in VR. I regularly do the rookie series for that reason. On bigger tracks like those in D class it tends to get boring imo.
People that like formula style dont usually rank FF1600, Vee, or Skip barber because while they are formula style they do not drive like the faster formula style racecars. If you follow F4 to F1 then there is a gradually similar progression. Same with Open Wheel D (USF 2000) to IndyCar. However if you go to FF1600 or Skip Barber then to Formula Lights then it is basically alien.
@@mikel8812 hey buddy - the new season starts tomorrow, so all series official races will appear then. This is week 13 which is an off week between seasons.
Little correction: Indycar is not quicker than the Super Formula. SF23 is the second fastest open wheeler itw right now, behind F1 of course. Also the closest it comes regarding driving style, Indycar is.. Indycar, different breed, more geared towards street circuits and ovals. I'd recommend the Super Formula to everyone over the SFL and Indycar. It's the closest you come to racing an F1 car, incredible fun, high potential for a skill gap due to the throttle control, only car that is truly nimble allowing insane moves. SFL is also fun but a bit boring compared to the SF.
Hey buddy - unfortunately it’s been so long since I drove either I couldn’t really say. My sense is the numbers of drivers participating is much lower though.
hows the F1 car series? i havent played in well over 2 years and enjoyed indycar series back then, but ive seen they have released a f1 car since then is it dead or just not mentioned? im thinking of comming back into sim racing
the official F1 races are totally dead. There might be some hosted seasons available. The car isn't bad but I think everyone seems to be in Super Formula for top open wheel formula.
The sprint series are pretty dead, but the Grand Prix Tour (the full length races that follows the real life schedule) has a couple splits in every timeslot.
I wish the W12 still had a series running it. I go back to that car and the laps just flow man. I start off saying I’ll just do a five lap stint and next thing I know I’ve been driving it for two hours.
F4 would be a fantastic series if it was at least C class. My A license is at risk after a weekend of racing in it, it is MISERABLE. iRacing has got to make people learn basic safety before graduating Rookies. That isn't too much to ask.
Open Wheel D and C have more road than oval, but C is harder to drive than IndyCar though you can always crank up downforce regardless of if you want to be on pace. Better to first finish than not finish at all.
Hey buddy - so I own it and have driven offline, never online. Obviously I’m sure I haven’t been driving it quickly but I actually found it ok. One to take a proper look at in the future!
f4 sucks cuz the car is too tough which leads to everyone racing like a moron because there is no consequence to just running over people, its a shame because the car itself is a lot of fun
For all the love I have for open wheel cars I'm ashamed to say I've never driven the Indycar 😅 I need to give it a go as you're another I've seen who speaks so highly of it.

100% agree - those are exactly the reasons I love racing them too!
The thumbnail got me freaked out because I love the Super Formula Lights and think it's one of the most fun Formula Cars to drive
Been on iracing for over 3 years now and first time trying the IR-18 this season. Instantly fell in love with it and looking forward to the oval racing this week.
I have to drive the IndyCar more - a lot of good people are praising that car, quite interesting to see your opinion as well!
This is very helpful. I've been focused almost exclusively on GT3s for the last couple of years and thinking of dipping my toes into formula cars. This will help me focus on one series.

I also started to run some Indycar for the first time this season. Love the car! And we will see each other on the grid in LoA Prime.
Great video idea, even more pertinent now they're splitting the Road category!

I agree, love that car, love the Mazda too!

FF is getting guinea pigged for rain; iracing staff said something like this on the forums
I know it's super old, and participation is not huge, but the skip barber is still an all time favorite of mine.

Agree with your picks, but what about the ff1600. My fave! Keep up the great work love the content especially your racing coverage! Cheers.

Will try the SFL tomorrow . I wish Interlagos featured more in track scheduling.
I dont see any offical races for the f3 or super formula lights? how can i race them ?

Any thoughts on the US specific junior formula cars? (USF/D class, USF Pro 2000/C class)
They're mostly dead with the occasional full single split field
@@drchtct Not according to the seasonal average heatmap on the forum. Maybe just not in your timezone.
If no one talks about the F1 series, it will never be populated.................
Great video tho, thank you !

Ooo thanks man - I thought it was marginally quicker but stand corrected! Definitely a good point re SF and the similarities to F1.
USF2000 is the best sim car ever made IMHO. Perfect connected feel with full VRS kit and VR.
Where would you place the USF2000 and the PM-18? Are they just dead now?
Hey buddy - unfortunately it’s been so long since I drove either I couldn’t really say. My sense is the numbers of drivers participating is much lower though.
Love the USF2000! One of my favorites.
Crazy putting the Super Formula Light car above the Super Formula imo, driving the light takes zero skill and is like living in a slow-motion replay.
More people should drive Grand Prix series!!!
IR-18 is definitely up there
hows the F1 car series? i havent played in well over 2 years and enjoyed indycar series back then, but ive seen they have released a f1 car since then is it dead or just not mentioned? im thinking of comming back into sim racing

Can we get a guide to the other half of open wheel cars?
I wish the W12 still had a series running it. I go back to that car and the laps just flow man. I start off saying I’ll just do a five lap stint and next thing I know I’ve been driving it for two hours.

iRacing has got to make people learn basic safety before graduating Rookies. That isn't too much to ask.
What do you think about Mercedes W13 ?
I like the Ir18 but dislike the fact that half of the schedule is oval racing. I wished one of the series was road only.
Open Wheel D and C have more road than oval, but C is harder to drive than IndyCar though you can always crank up downforce regardless of if you want to be on pace. Better to first finish than not finish at all.
Never tested Lotus 79, the most challenging formula car in iRacing?
the Lotus 49 would like a word
😂 This car I haven’t yet tried!
Hey buddy - so I own it and have driven offline, never online. Obviously I’m sure I haven’t been driving it quickly but I actually found it ok. One to take a proper look at in the future!
What about the ray, vee and skippy?
Great video but you missed the f1 cars, though I think I know where they would rank…
You forgot Formula Vee!
f4 sucks cuz the car is too tough which leads to everyone racing like a moron because there is no consequence to just running over people, its a shame because the car itself is a lot of fun
That car has a halo AND a screen?? Tf
iR-01 😭
You forgot f1
Any car i drive ends up with driver aids
In options, uncheck brake and throttle assistance mate It's on the first page
