My husband who was a true rocker at 71, but he loved Mark's music.
I played this song at his bedside while he lay dying In ICU. .It seemed to bring him peace and settled his heart rhythm so he could pass in peace.. Thank you Mark.
    RIP MY love..

Still, I wish you only the best. Stay safe….and sleep well, friend. There are good men and women out there, in uniform, standing watch, to ensure that you can. It brings back memories of uncertain times of despair and war and what the future might bring, but mostly and most tragically the loss of innocence. My wife always tries to convince me not to listen to it because as she says it's difficult to console me, nevertheless she always does it. She's an angel! This will be my reflection song during the showing of a life well lived when I'm dead. At almost 73 years of age and with a grandfather who served on the Somme in the Light Horse, my Dad in the RAAF and me missing the " American War, as the Vietnamese people correctly call it, by one day, I totally comprehend the futility of war. Just look at where the world is now. Enough said. So, as family and friends head for a wake to be long remembered, " Going Home " from Local Hero shall send them to craft beer, exceptional wines, non-alcoholic beverages if required and to finish off, a selection of exceptional single malts. I just wish I could be there. And to you Mark Knofler, what a wonderful legacy you have bestowed on people who appreciate, respect, and absorbe the brilliance of your special gift of composition and sharing. I took my oldest daughter, who is now 40, to see you at the Sydney Entertainment Centre before it's was redeveloped. A wee tear slid from my eye when you sang two of my three favourite compositions.

I was very young when I often went fishing with my father. We drove to a beautiful spot outside the city we lived in. During the ride he played a mix-tape with songs of Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Toto, Dire Straits, The Cure and Pink Floyd. I loved it, but as I child my mind could easily switch into other subjects. Years passed by, I got older and developed my own taste in music. Suddenly these artists and songs came back. We went fishing when I was 6 or 7. I got back to these songs when I was twenty or so. And now, at the age of 38, I listen to these songs over and over again. Thinking of those days. Of my father back then. Being there for me. Always. And he still is. Now I'm a father as well. Hopefully my kids will have the same memories when they are older. Memories about me. The current days. Their childhood. And the music they hear.

Yeah, whilst he's absolutely schooling that guitar, he isn't over playing it. That's what i love about him and Gilmour, both of them play in a manner that lends itself to the song rather than making it all about their skills. Nothing worse than what would otherwise be a good song is ruined because the guitarist makes it all a
bout them, and starts shredding and other nonsense.

    "Brothers In Arms"
    Dire Straits
    These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
    And always will be
    Some day you'll return to
    Your valleys and your farms
    And you'll no longer burn
    To be brothers in arms
    Through these fields of destruction
    Baptisms of fire
    I've witnessed your suffering
    As the battle raged high
And though they did hurt me so bad
    In the fear and alarm
    You did not desert me
    My brothers in arms
    There's so many different worlds
    So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell
    And the moon riding high
    Let me bid you farewell
    Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
    We're fools to make war
    On our brothers in arms

You taught a kid with no confidence to even express physical pain and agony to express his feelings through his instrument. You taught that kid what heartfelt music was... Truly a beautiful song. Sometimes pain can be reminiscent of times we long for. When I was young, too young, maybe around 10, I gravitated to this one, possibly my favorite of all time. Not knowing the meaning of brothers in arms, I misunderstood for the literal visual - brothers in arms, or hugging my brother. When this song released, my brother turned up missing. Our family was destroyed by this. I longed to hug him and have him home. 4 long years later, we found out he was killed a long ways from our home.. brutally by someone on this planet who is unknown, that has to sleep at night with their memory of what they did. I’m 46 now. My road to forgiveness hasn’t reached its destination yet. This song makes me freeze every time. Remembering that year.. soaking my pillow, later his casket in tears. He’s with me every day. He was my big brother. We were supposed to build a life together. I’ll settle for his memory, which is so much better than nothing. He was my protector with a huge heart. I now tell my kids and wife about him. I always want to tell the world about him. It’s amazing what a song can do. Thank you Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits. My misinterpretation of the songs meaning, gave me one that’s perfect for me. Thanks.

Sweet Lord above.... the main word that comes to me to even ATTEMPT to put words that might even come close to describe Mark's incredible talent is: SENSUAL. If he played me like he plays his guitar, I would die one incredibly happy woman!!!!😊❤
