You are very right. But they are still 9-10 years old. A lot of kids will learn about the dangers of certain activities but sometimes will not fully grasp the dangers of it until they get hurt doing it.
Unless you know what you're doing. Apply the gas to the area you want to burn BEFORE and then make sure no open flame is near or gas or any flammable residue on you such as a little spilled gas, then stand back and throw on a match.

This story reminds me of a friend who i never felt comfortable asking what happened to him. My BFF and him dated and though hes a deadbeat hes the father of her kids. He had messed with a junker truck his dad was fixing or something but he was burned and scarred all over from his graphs. He was around this boys age when it happened. And it also depends on the patients condition. If the patient has a really low blood pressure or they aren't breathing effectively for example, we are going to worry about fixing those life threatening problems first, and worry about pain second.

Thats what I did. When my oldest was 4, we moved into a new house. I was 6mthd pregnant and couldn't clean the house as well as I wanted to before getting out things in. My son found a lighter in a closet that was left behind from previous owner We had only stayed one night when he found it. I had noticed a burned straw, a balloon, and a small area on the changing table meant for new baby. After I figured out what happened I showed my son images of burned children... not the completely bad ones but bad burns on arms and such. He was only 4. The way they set this up was so realistic, dirty clothing and grubby fingers, like every little kid at that age, it is important to teach kids about fire and flammables, you can teach children as young as 2 about fire, I think they should have every school from daycare to grade 8 about fire twice a year
