The real takeaway from episode planning. Designate one place for cooking to create a controlled environment. Then, make it off limits to kids, pets, and anyone you don't want to get hurt. Kitchens and any place you designate for cooking is not a playground for kids. Put protective barriers and gates if necessary to prevent little kids and family pets from running in and causing an accident. It takes seconds to zero seconds for a child and pet to get hurt. Many don't mean to do it as they're only children playing. But you can prevent this tragedy.
For anyone watching this, DO NOT put ice or very cold water on any burns. It will cause the blistering to be worse. Lukewarm water only, until you can get better help. A simple burn cream or ER, whichever fits your burn.
The footage of E.J. near the end is inspiring me. All too often I had not felt like a kid, And it doesn't really matter what possessions I have or what food I eat in order to be that way. My mom knew a couple little boy who pulled a pot off the stove on top of him, burning him badly. I used to live in the UK and I worked for the NHS. Chip pan burns (from frying French fries) are still shockingly common over there; usually it's not a deep fryer but just a regular cast iron frying pan. Children grab the handles and pull them down onto themselves. It's literally one of the most awful things imaginable.
I once (At age five) was hanging on to the side of a shopping cart that was full of food. Can you see where _this_ is going? I ended up being caught under the side of the cart since I toppled it on myself and I could not pick it up to get out by myself.

Getting burned with scalding oil is no joke. One time, I had deep fried some plantains to make into plantain chips. I wasn't thinking when I moved the pot off the stove in the kitchen. I grabbed the pot handles, but I moved the pot too quickly and some hot oil splashed on my hands and left side of my cheek. YEEEEOOOUUUCH! My first instinct was to drop the pot and onto the floor, but I didn't. I put the pot of hot oil into an empty sink to let it cool off. Afterwards, both my hands and my left cheek was doused in ice cold water from the sink tap. My hands are okay, but I still have a faint scar on my left cheek from that incident. Now I'm little more careful when it comes to moving a pot of hot scalding oil. So even if you're in the kitchen and you're working or cooking with oil hot, be very cautious with it.
I wonder how EJ is today. EJ, if you are somewhere out there and if you read this, I was very touched by your story. I hope you are okay, and I hope your grandma was able to forgive herself because it was in no way her fault. I remember how it felt as it ran down my face and chest, and the way it burned when I tried to breathe. Mom thought I drank it, but the hospital confirmed I didn't. I know how it feels to get burned I got burned on my fingers and it stings very much even if its very small.
When my neice got burnt there was so many babies that had burns cause from pouring teapots over them
This one always stuck with me. I don't use anything with cords unless they are up on counters.
Why couldn't they just cook those on the stove?
More modern deep fryers have the cord release, of course.....
I have had cooking oil splashed in my face numerous times and do not want to imagine having a large amount being dumped on me!
EAT WITH THE KIDS. NEVER PUT THE WOK ON THE BENCH. SHE WOULD NEVER WATCH MY KIDS AGAIN
When I was a kid my dad was cooking very very hot oil. I ran around the kitchen when I was 3 and tripped over the cord. The hot oil missed me about an inch, I would’ve been severely burned throughout my body and I got so lucky
The grandmother, Myrna Johnson House sadly died 4 years after the accident on November 11 1994
My mom is a medical assistant and she said that if you get burnt that bad you’re supposed to put butter or egg whites in the burn and cold water can make it worse.
I'd feel so bad if I was that grandma. I know it isn't hers or the toddler's fault but I feel for her :(
It's her fault. She left the oil there and knew the plug was there. That poor baby.
The pain.... cant imagine
Stick with soft, steamed tacos. Equally delicious.
I like tacos too, but not with cooking fat. If I eat tacos made in oil I feel like I have a bowling ball in my stomach.
Hot oil is even twice as worse than hot water.
Burns involving used cooking oil can be incredibly dangerous because the oil could be full of dangerous biological contaminates which can cause serious secondary infections.
Mparvel Euro, pesos correct oil retains heat water doesn't
11:57 I really wanna comfort that grandma and tell her “no no, don’t beat yourself up! Don’t do that! You did nothing wrong, don’t blame yourself at all! It’s just one of those things, it could’ve happened to anybody even you. You did nothing, absolutely NOTHING wrong.”
The space of the stove from the outlet caused the accident.
