      This isn't anything new with Tesla doing it. You're supposed to get used to it and get better with the touch screen as they say, but overall is cost-cutting. Go rent one and see if that happens. Else, go for something like an Ionic.

    I have one and like it. It drives great, and the minimalism suits me. We wanted an electric hatchback and this is basically that, it's more or less the size of a Golf. There are very few options available in Canada when it comes to electric cars in a smaller hatchback form. The space in the rear isn't huge but hey it's a hatchback. We do use the back seat a lot, and it's fine though if you prefer to drive with the front seats pushed way back it will definitely cramp the rear seat passengers. We really didn't want a big car that wouldn't fit our garage, so a model 3 or a model Y to us is worthless as it's just too big and not what we want. For me the Volvo interior quality is really great, I don't know what they mean by comments about hard plastic, we have a Fiat 500 now that's a car with hard plastic everywhere. The Volvo is much nicer, the 'hard plastic' isn't really that hard it has a nice touch and I love that it employs a lot of recycled and natural materials. The main drawback is really the software maturity, even though it's been on the market elsewhere in the world for a half year or so there are still a lot of software bugs though Volvo has been issuing software updates somewhat regularly. I'm also not crazy about the keyless entry system. The entire idea of keyless entry is solving a problem that never existed in the first place.

    I feel like they've lost a lot of momentum on the EX30, and admittedly the tariff situation was out of their control. Was excited for a smaller more affordable EV, but for just a little bit more you could go for the refreshed ID.4 Pro S. The Kia EV3 is for sure now something to keep in mind, but looking at what happened with the EX30, how the future shapes up is never really certain.
    Also, the lack of driver's gauge cluster is a deal breaker. I remember that Toyota Echo with the mid-mounted speedo... it was my Young Driver's learner's car and i hated it. Nobody who went to driving school with YD decided "oh, that was nice, I really want an Echo."

      Hyundais don't stay solid and strong and last the way Volvos do over the years. Don't be fooled by what may seem like nicer materials. Volvo is into sustainability and recylable materials are big on all of their cars, including the most expensive ones. What people don't seem to realize is Volvos were always understated and this is just an updated version of their understated type of interior.

    • @stuntmonkey00
      @stuntmonkey00 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@benjaminsmith2287 There's understated and then there's cost cutting with fancy words. Volvo is cost cutting with this model by shoving everything into the screen and eliminating door speakers... it cuts down on the amount of wiring harness components and reduces steps during production. Except it sucks for the end user. Go up a step to the XC40... that's what "minimalist with nice materials" is like, not the EX30. This is woefully cheap interior for $57k CAD.

      For better or worse, the Model3 is the price benchmark in Canada at the entry level. If you price at the same level as Tesla, you better have higher quality interiors and actual physical controls, because that's Tesla's weak point. If you are going for the Tesla-like minimalist interior, it had better be priced under the Model3, because the customer is going to just going to go for Tesla by default if the pricing is similar, not to mention the SuperCharger network.

      In Canada you want your hockey gear or your groceries, in the warm part of the car! Not in a cold trunk. You also don't want to be out wiping off your back window all the time. Those things are essential in Canada. A flat insulated roof that fits racks is a bonus.

      Battery degradation is over hyped. In the past few years alone, battery technology has improved substantially. CATL (Contemporary Amprex) is building batteries that are guaranteed to outlast the life of a typical gas engine or the frequency of a major repair to an ICE vehicle. EV batteries are presently legally required to last 8 years or 160k km, and by 2030 we should see EVs with range of 800km and lifespan of guaranteed performance over 8 to 10 years or 500k km. Solid state batteries already have been shown to be able to recharge in 15 minutes and last longer than a gas engine, in addition to being lighter and safer. EVs will have a higher resale value than ICE vehicles because, in the near future repair costs (including battery replacement) will lower than ICE vehicles.

    Thanks, guys! I s'pose I can see why you compare the EX30 with Tesla's Model 3 because pricing of the two is fairly close in Canada. But the EX30 is smaller, being close to a subcompact in 2024 (cars seem to have grown a bit in the last 10 years). It's a 2+2 where the Tesla is a 5 passenger (in a pinch) car. I had a deposit on the EX30, but the tariffs made me rethink even before Volvo cancelled its import plans & I'm leasing a Polestar 2. It is very nice having a display with speed, battery & driver assist status in front of the driver with audio or maps off to the side! (How did you like the sound system BTW?) Also, there are a few buttons & levers in the P2 plus lots of room in the hatch, but interior storage is poor (it has a transmission hump housing extra batteries). Although the Polestar 2 is comparable to the Tesla 3 in size, it's not easy to parallel park for me, coming from a Volvo C-30. Steering & 1-pedal drive are excellent in the P2. I'll need to see what's available in 2026 when my lease is up 🧐.

    I actually like the style of the interior. It’s fun and unique and not just another boring black and grey one. But let’s be honest, it’s all just cheap plastic materials with some marketing to make them sound better. The Honda civic touring hatch has more premium materials than this at almost half the price. This car should probably be priced around $45-50k cad. An electric powertrain doesn’t justify such a steep cost increase from a hybrid when considering value, longevity, convenience & reliability.

    Tesla gives you the option to customize the steering wheel button. I've set the one on the left to pop the glove box open when pressed in, no more going into the screen. It makes me chuckle when screens get so demonized in cars. Most elements in the car can be left on auto not requiring any interaction. Tesla also makes the voice commands dead simple and easy to use. Press the right steering wheel button in and tell it what to adjust. I'm sure this has something similar with Google integration. Oh ya and Zack, one pedal driving forever! Time to move into the future buddy ;-) Not only is this a superb way to drive an electric car but also a safety feature most people don't consider. With one pedal driving the vehicle starts to decelerate as soon as you lift off. You can actually stop the car quicker in an emergency situation this way instead of taking the few seconds to lift off the accelerator and move to the brake pedal. For the price, model 3 all day long...
