  • In this video series, I am installing a vintage style radio into my 1977 Chevy squarebody C10 truck. This head unit is made by Retrosound and it is a direct bolt-in for this truck. It is completely digital and has RCA outputs for an amplifier and subwoofer. It has built-in bluetooth capabilities that work with Android and Apple iOS smartphones. This radio also has a USB connection for older MP3 players and iPods that do not have bluetooth.

The reason your volume and selector knobs are flipped, is because you have mounted the display upside down on the radio body. The stickers on the radio body MUST face up, so the unit get proper cooling. Now you can see the green board inside is on top and blocks the hot air from getting out! Dismantle the radio again, flip the front display 180 degrees on the body and plug the shaft cables back where they was the first time.

a little note on this that may help, The Bezel he is using would go onto the radio face first and then the dash panel would go on. This would give a more flush fit and not require any filing. The bezel is tapered to fit in from the rear not from the front.

I think on the first few pages it tells you the "Retrosound," script needs to be on the top

Thats pretty cool, lost my radio delete plate so this might be the best cure. If you really enjoy tunes while you roll, an amp powering a sub under each seat is an amazing addition, add a 6x9 behind each seat would drown out just about anything : ]

Since you have a manual the little gear shift window for the auto in the bezel is a great place to mount that little mic. It is directly in front of you there, just make sure to put some sound deadening behind and around it.

Great video work...stills, etc! i enjoyed watching all three of them. You are a good dude!...an engineer for real. i liked the thorough explanations of how you did everything. i'm looking at a Classic Car Stereo USA 630 for my '66 Chevy Caprice...and you were a big help in explaining the wiring, which will be very relevant in my hopeful / future project. Thank you very much! henry

Very nice! Did you encounter any alternator whine? I have a Custom Autosound USA 630 and there is a lot of whine even though I have replaced every body ground possible.

Flip the radio over, the retro sound sticker goes up. Remount the face and put the knob wires back the way they were. Should be right then.

Thanks for this series! I do have a question if I may. I'm almost done installing my Retrosound Hermosa and got everything hooked up and working, but I'm having issues with the included dials and knobs. There seems to be a gap between the dial and the knob, causing the dial to just sit there loosely. Any tips on how these are supposed to be installed?

I like those radios. I just wish the area in my 83 K5 Blazer wasn't hacked up for a CD player :(

+Binks72 Just looked. Didn't see anything for a Chevrolet in 83, much less a squarebody.

Im about to order the retrosound for my 1980 c10. So will i have to file down the edges on mine because my truck is all original and i was really hoping not modify anything to put it in. But it looks awesome so i guess its worth it. Thanks

It's possible you'll have to file the bezel, but it's very little. Maybe a 1/32" on all 4 sides. Minimal.

+Dat Tepo I'm pretty happy with it to be honest. There are better out there, but they don't have that factory look to them.
