  • Watch this Peloton Bike+ Plus Auto Follow Digital Resistance demo and learn how the Auto Follow feature on the new Peloton bike works.
    Auto Follow is a new feature on the new peloton bike+ but a lot of people are having a difficult time understanding how auto follow works on the new peloton bike, so I made this quick video showing exactly how the system works and what you can expect from it when your new peloton bike plus arrives at your door.
    We selected a Climb style ride because it has a lot of resistance changes to show you examples. So you start the ride and within a few seconds the auto follow feature pops up, and you just tap the lock button to turn on Auto Follow digital resistance on the peloton bike plus.
    By default your bike is placed in the center of the resistance range. And there's an interval timer circling the lock icon so you can see how long until the Auto Follow digital resistance changes.
    In this first example I won't change the resistance at all. As you can see the called out range is 25 - 40 and my bike automatically set in the middle by default which is 33 in this case. When the countdown timer ends, the next resistance level is announced to be 30 - 40 and Auto Follow makes my peloton bike plus jump to the center of that range, which is 35 in this example. Now what happens if you want to move up in the range to make it more difficult than the default center of the road resistance? From the look of the slider bar I thought you'd able to slide the auto follow digital resistance on the peloton bike+ left and right within the target metric range, but during this demo ride that's not how it worked. This slider bar does appear to sometimes respond to touch though, and I'll show you my observation on that in just a moment.Since the touch screen auto follow resistance slider didn't respond to sliding my finger on it I simply used the red resistance knob to adjust the resistance.Since the touch screen peloton bike plus auto resistance slider wasn't working for some reason we just turned the red resistance knob instead. We went just past 40 by accident, but turned it back to 40, which is the top of the range in this example. You can see that if you do leave the suggested range it won't automatically turn off Auto Follow on the Peloton Bike Plus.As you can see The interval is just about over, and were at the top of the range now. The next interval range is 31 - 43, so the bike is automatically set to the top of the new range at 43.The peloton bike plus auto follow screen slider started working momentarily for me when I went to adjust the resistance down, but then it stopped working again for some reason. So I just manually turned the red resistance knob to bring the resistance down to the low end of the Auto Follow digital resistance range. In this case I did not bring the resistance completely to the bottom of the range, rather I brought it to just 1 point away from the bottom. In this specific case the range is 31-43 so I put the resistance to 32 to show a slightly different example. As the interval changes to the next range, which happens to be 40-50 in this case, the Auto Follow feature on the peloton bike plus sets the resistance to 41.So intuitively you are automatically set to one point up from the minimum suggested resistance. Now lets say you want to ride extra hard and go completely outside of the suggested Auto Follow range completely. In this case the suggested resistance is 40-50, but I used the red knob to turn it up to 57. As this interval ends the new resistance interval is called out to be 45-55, so Auto Follow puts you at the top of the range, not a few points outside and above of the top of the range as you might expect. The Auto Follow feature on the Peloton Bike Plus may be updated in the future to work a bit differently and allow you to Auto Follow outside of the suggested range, but for now this is how the feature works. On the opposite end of the spectrum, lets say you want to take it easy for an interval and you turn the resistance down well below the suggested range, which the range in this case is 45-60, and I set it all the way down to 26.At the time of this recording Auto Follow does not work for live rides and the feature is being added to rides shortly after they are added to the peloton database. From the look of it you might expect to be able to use your finger to slide the auto resistance up or down within the target metrics called for, but from all that I could see the only thing that it would do is reset the resistance to the center of the target metrics by touching the slider bar area. If anyone has any additional information on this please share with us in the comment section below.Anyway, hope this helps, please click like, see ya next time.

    It is called auto FOLLOW not auto do whatever you want. I think it works exactly how it should. I am glad that if you are working at the high end or low end it will keep you there and not take you back to the middle ever time. Auto follow is one of the best new features and I can't wait to try it out when our new bike arrives next week!

      Lol! I like that, "auto do what you want"... I totally agree, excited for the bike to arrive! Thanks for leaving a comment and sharing your thoughts! Did you upgrade or is this your first peloton?

      @@TailHappyTV our first. We had ordered before the new one was announced and decided to upgrade instead of taking the discount for the old model

      @@sycamorefarms5612 nice. We're in the same boat... had an echelon bike, bought peloton, saw the new bike announced, upgraded. Cheers.

    I'm glad to see that if you go outside the suggested range, auto-follow doesn't turn completely off. Seems pretty intelligent and intuitive! Thanks for the demo :)

    Great example. I was intimidated by the auto-follow. I feel more at ease now. Thanks

    Very helpful. Thank you for that demo. Still dont know if the plus is worth the extra $$$ but you did answer this question that I had about the auto follow that Peloton did not on their web site.

    Thank you for a break down on this. Peloton support agent seemed to not know you could change their tier within autolock :/ . I thought you could drag too it but good to know the resistance knob is how you can change it within the tier. I hope they make that as an option though, since currently my resistance knob doesnt work and I have no option to only ride towards the middle :(

    I think I prefer the way Peloton has implemented it. In my case, I am usually at the hi point of the resistance range. Occasionally I will add on but for short intervals. So my feeling is, for the vast majority of the time, I will use it just as Peloton envisioned.

    I agree that the auto follow would be better if it stayed at your preset range +x or range -y numbers and did not default to range max or min when auto changing..

    I wish it would auto-follow outside the range, so that if you always ride +5 from the top for certain instructors, that it will auto follow +5 from the top at all times.

    If you want to ride so far out of the range simply don’t use auto follow. Right??? Makes sense to me!!

    • @TailHappyTV
      @TailHappyTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely. It'll be interesting to see if they update the software to allow you to Auto follow more loosely and hold on to the suggested range but have the software automatically put you outside of the range as well as inside of the range if it can see that is how you are intending on following the ride. Auto follow seems like a great feature and I'm guessing that they are going to make it even better as time goes on.
