Like I can’t read a schematic to save my life and I have no clue how all those transistors, resistors, capacitors, and diodes come together and make what appears on my screen. How those millions of electrical signals traverse and send and receive data and everything. It’s rly mind blowing to me and it’s been one of the biggest frustrations throughout my life. This is amazing, you gained a follow. Any way to fix the SD card issue?
There's alot of evidence supporting the idea that the SD card reader fails due to poor solder joints on its corresponding IC. Reflowing this IC can bring back the dead SD reader.
@@SlickBuysModsandRepairs That makes sense, people on Reddit with newer models reported their SD card still works. Despite having exactly the same hardware.
This is a widespread issue for Ally owners, if you could make a video for the community on how to fix this, we would really appreciate that.
Get an xgmobile. Comes with an SD card slot
Damn where do you go to learn something like this??? Shit like this is crazy! And I work in IT too and I consider myself pretty computer literate. I can build pc’s, repair them, and use them really well. I taught myself how to code in python and am learning C++ rn, but doing somethin like this is just 😱🤯.
I learned the foundations of what I know from my dad who was a wiz at all this stuff but he died when I was like 12 and I never got to learn soldering from him.. and I kno there’s SO MUCH more to it than that too, it’s really the whole electrical side of things that has always baffled me. I really hope I’m able to learn this someday!
Cool mod I wish the bios supported this out of box. It's what stopped me on steam deck too. Might have to sell my steam deck and just buy an ayaneo kun since im paranoid about warranty and long term life.
wouldnt count too much on ayaneo customer service. If your device bricks you have basically a adamn expensive paperweight
Fantastic job
Thank you
Thank you
OMG your work is amazing!!! I have a question... If an ASUS BIOS update arrives, should you skip it or can you update without problems?
Thank you! I recommend to my customers that they skip Asus updates so as to avoid overriding the edits I make to the bios.
@@SlickBuysModsandRepairs what would we be missing out on by not doing bios updates after this?
It would revert back to only using 16 gb ram @@ZionRanch
This is great! And, now i know i will not be doing this to mine 😅
For complete improvement, there is not enough battery with increased WHrs and cpu boost ,and change the thermal paste
I don't understand what you're saying. The boosted memory clocks have a marginal difference on overall battery life. The Ally uses PTM as it's cooling solution, thermal paste would be a downgrade.
@@SlickBuysModsandRepairs stanks, I didn't know of this
hello. Do I absolutely have to remove the bios chip to flash the bios? Or is it possible to modify the HEX value in the bios update deployment program?
Thank you very much for sharing your efforts for everyone.
At the moment the bios has to be modified via hardware. A software method hasn’t been done yet.
oh thank you for your kindness.. i have to buy one thing 😢

I'll also be ordering a Custom Upgrade from you for Both the Ram AND Battery 👍🏽

I'll pay overnight shipping for both ways, I'm just anxious to know about the price so that I can start some financial planning for everything including your services 😀.
Edit: Almost forgot to mention, I'll be playing it on my 165Hz 1440p LG Ultragear monitor, would it still be capped at 120HZ? (I'm Sorry for the long comment and questions).
Thank you very much for your great teaching. I have another question, you wrote in the description that before we start everything we have to turn off Bitlocker and Secure Boot, I would like to know whether after everything, when Windows will boot up again with 32GB Ram, we can use Bitlocker and Secure boot again switch on, or they always have to stay off.
Thanks so much
I don’t see any mention of disabling Bitlocker in the description?
amazing job . but what i wish for is someone can covert the xg mobile connector to work on other egpu
I would get this in a heartbeat if it was easy to update the bios.. is there a socket that can be fitted on the allys motherboard, for easy removal into a programmer if needed?
I’ve been mentally thinking about how I could extend the bios chip to a easier to easy access spot, so you don’t have to totally disassemble the unit. Though if you’re able to dump, edit, and flash the bios then chances are taking apart the unit wouldn’t be an issue for you.
@@SlickBuysModsandRepairs taking it apart isn’t the issue, unfortunately I developed a bit of Parkinson’s in my hands and just can’t solder like I used to
But have you done before and after performance testing? That would be lovely
Not on video but I did do some quick comparisons. Games ran smoother and I saw a slight FPS increase (5-10).
Run star citizen. I get a thrashing issue because the ally doesn't have enough RAM.
Hi ! I can see that a lot of people in the comments requested a gaming performance side by side if possible, there are a few guys that offer this service and charge big money ( as they should being that it is an extremely niche market and complex process) but at the same time for that expensive product we should see a difference in performance and since you are the only one that can do this and have access to the upgraded model i think it's a missed opportunity not to show us the difference
Donde puedo conseguir un backup de la BIOS de Asus Rog Ally, y que programadora usas?
I have Micron memory on my ROG Ally. I ordered Samsung memory chips. What additional steps are needed to replace Micron memory with Samsung chips? I have read that a resistor needs to be moved...
Yes, you will need to swap the location of the strap resistor. You can email me and I’ll send you the location of said resistor.
Hi, can you tell us about perfromance gains please.
What's the performance like? Anything noticeable. A video would be cool.
Significantly improved 0.1/1% frame averages and a bit of an average frame boost. 5-10 frames from experience.
@@SlickBuysModsandRepairs Thanks! I was wondering because apparently MSI's new handheld will have 32gbs of RAM and I was wondering how much of a difference that would make. Right now with 16 GB it feels like we're juggling system RAM and vram around depending on what game is being played but if you have enough RAM for both I figured performance would improve.
@@SlickBuysModsandRepairs 5-10 frames is nothing
I wish I had 32GB haha nice work you did ♥ I don't know why they just put 16GB inside and then even shared... That is just too less the 16GB RAM in shared mode.

mad MUSIC and skills by the way
Battery life is the same. Thanks!
I'll just wait for their next model when they up the ram lol
Quick question. If i sent my unit over to have this done. How could i go about in the future to update the bios? Would it be done via a repackage of their bios updates on your end? That or could we do it etc...
Ideally you'd forego the BIOS updates, so as to not override the custom BIOS I make for the unit. You can always download a new BIOS and ship the unit back out to me to reflash if a BIOS with a feature you want ever releases.
Can you upgrade the Legion Go as well?
Can you upgrade the cpu? can’t imagine a powerful gaming handheld but possible
No
How much ram can you allocate to the GPU after this? Will updating the system mess anything up on the chip you flashed?
@@ClassicGamer78 technically somewhere up 32GBs. Only BIOS updates will overwrite the custom BIOS flashed onto the chip.
woow amazing can u benchmark this new ROG Ally
Great video, I would love to do this to my ally but what about the updates ? There’s constantly new updates coming up.
Same would love a performance boost, but might miss out on important updates. I guess that's the risk
This is definitely an impressive work but probably unnecessary. Any Asus update would override the bios rendering the memory invalid.

i think asus would do well making this an option, i mean 16gb of ram is ok for most computers with dedicated gfx , but when u are dedicating 6-8 gb of ram to the gpu in an apu, it really gimps the operating system . i have 6gb set to the gpu in mine, and it doesnt leave enough room for the os in alot of cases . im highly interested in this mod, tho i would hate to spend the coin to have it done, and 3 or 4 months later they release some bios update that allows some new features or better gpu performance, and not be able to use it. i am very interested tho, thank you for the upload, you have my attention hard buddy. are you doing this all by yourself? i cant imagine you having 500 of these units show up at your doorstep one morning lol, any rough idea on the turn around time for this service?

If a future BIOS update is released from Asus, will the boards need to be sent back to be flashed again?
If a future BIOS update is downloaded, yes

So in terms of updates…you only give up the future OEM BIOS updates and not the windows/asus software updates correct?
Yes, unless Asus packages a BIOS update with a firmware update. Thought I'm pretty sure they don't.

I tried to flash the bios chip without desoldering. I did it in the bios and menu Ez Flash V3 with two different sufixes (bin and 337) but every time I get an error. select file is not a uefi bios. but when I do with original file there is no problem and these errors are not shown.

is whether the same code or path can also be used for new version Bios 337? And My next question is if the BIOS update happens by mistake in the future, there is a solution to update the BIOS modded code without removing the BIOS chip from the main board. Did you transfer it with a USB cable?
