Modern knives are far better the problem is when traditional knife companies try to make modern knives they suck like case buck and gerber make terrible modern knives but their old stuff is good try other brands for modern knives like Kizer Civivi vosteed for the cheaper knives if you can afford to spend more the options are limitless
My use and review of the Westline is about as enthusiastic as this. I carried it for 1/2 day and decided to put it back in the box for trading fodder down the road. About only thing I liked was blade steel and looks. I then tried Kershaw Blur. Liked it better but it still doesn’t get carried much either. If I were picking between them I’d go Blur for less than 1/2 the money. My handle name should define my allegiance's but just my opinion on the 2 I’ve mentioned.
Love my Ozark Trail(s) fake Benchmade, etc. Sharpen easier and i can be more reckless and not afraid of losing, messing up somehow. Got over the "nice" knife bug about 2 yrs ago. Market is ridiculous now; just reiterations of the same hundreds yr old concept.
First off, I would suggest that you stop buying knives that you haven't held before, from online stores. That spot that you say is hanging up when you try to close the knife, that is the ball detent, not the over travel stop on the frame lock. Case is fairly new to these more modern style knives, so you should really handle them before buying.
I found a ozark trail that looks just like that knife at walmartial for 3.28. It was in a box which I've never seen with them. To me that case knife looks cheap.
Ive got a drop point version. The ball detent on mine is what catches. Every reviewer that mentions it says the same. Definitely has hot spots. Mines collecting dust.
I bought a drop point Kinzua when they first came out. Later on I bought the Marilla. Between the two, the Marilla has a much smoother action to open and close. I don't carry either. I only EDC a fixed blade but I collect folders. I wasn't impressed with my Kinzua but I chocked it up to an early example of one. The Marilla showed me that Case could do better. I can't comment on the hot spot because I never use it. I want Case to be a contender in this genre and I want them to succeed but they definitely have to smooth these out. Your reaction validated mine, for me.
Well thats a real bummer. My Kizer Begleiter 2 tanto 154cm has great action. Not a flipper just a thumb stud and made in China. Though Im not sure they are available anymore so im appologize for mentioning it. Hope you get you money back John!

Well John we all get a bad one now and then right? At least you'll get your money back from SMKW. May take awhile with Christmas but you'll get it. It's a shame really because it is a good looking blade on that knife. You'll find another one👍🏼💯
@@MountainManKnives64 it is a shame, I really wanted the Tanto blade shape this has, if there was a way to “mod” the knife to make it work I would. Been trying to find another knife with this kind of blade on SMKW but nothing yet….
I won't buy a case online anymore. Their quality is up and down you never know what you're going to get. I hate to say it but sometimes a Chinese knife has better quality than a case knife. I wouldn't be happy with that if I owned case brothers company. There's not that many American knife companies out there we should be the best not the second best. Especially on slip joint knives that we have been building forever. Case needs to get back to their roots like they were building them back in the day. Thanks for sharing brother 🤙
@JohnKlahr yes and they should have caught all the hot spots. The only thing I can come up with is that they don't spend enough time with their designs. Carrying it for a while using it. And time with QC to catch the problems. I still like CASE I just have learned to keep an eye on it before I purchase 😂😂😂😂
I love Case knives. Even when I'm carrying a modern knife I still always carry a Case in my front pocket. Also being from PA almost everyone I know has a Case or knows a family member with one. I wanted so bad for Case to succeed in the modern arena. This knife just never appealed to me and your review confirms my doubts. The one that looks the best is the Bridgeline and that one has a dangerous faulty liner lock. I believe the westline won an award but at the price point I can get much better value at some other brands so I guess it's traditional from Case until they get the kinks worked out.
It has become comical watching youtubers bitch about knives. I have 3 of the Marilla's and they're great for everyday abuse. I highly recommend the titanium version. Use it for a week or two and the action will be great. Two of mine came tight but were fine after using them.
The more I see new knives, the more I love my vintage ones.

That should smooth out with use. If you have spare screws maybe you can put countersink screws on it? Or return it?
