    One important thing to remember here everyone is that the planetary gearing is not under stress. It’s job is only to lift the pawls

    Thanks for this. Please ride it for a month and let us know. I'm wondering if when rolling backwards, if you take your feet off the pedals, with the driver moving engage the chain and spin your cranks. As a flatlander, this would be really bad. Also, when rolling backwards, use pedal pressure to engage to 180 hop. Will that kill the clutch? Thanks.

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ohhh I hadn't even considered the implications of the cranks spinning. I will test it for you and reply here

  • @Thescavenger
    @Thescavenger 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well it looks cool. i am little leary about it because of how the pawl lifts. The blind freecoaster that came with my bike, though a different design, lifted the pawls also with a little tab on one side that would catch and lift. i dont know if it was misused or abused by the time i got it, but it would randomly disengage violently. It was the cause of a couple pretty hard crashes because it would let loose while i was pedaling full speed. i think the pawls started to get rounded out from partial engagement maybe. Not a 100% though. Hopefully they have solved the cassette\freecoaster combo and this one will hold up to ware better. Have fun testing it out!

    Almost the same with the concept on a the ezra freecoaster/ cassette.. Only difference is the clutch disc, since ezra doesnt have the gearing on the clutch disk and can be reconfigured to a pure cassette or on free coaster. I think this design would be cheaper and robust than the typical KHE internal freecoasters.

    At 4:33 you mentioned "not peddling forward while fakieing". Wouldn't heavy peddle pressure forward to rotate out of a fakie fit the description here? Will this thing hold up with hard direction changes, etc? I'm a husky dude and break a lot of stuff...

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The idea of a coaster is that you’re not using pedal pressure to roll out of a fakie so ideally you wouldn’t be doing that anyway

    I like the idea but....this:
    "Fast pedal forward movement while moving backwards can cause unwanted and damaging engagement.
    Pedaling forward while moving backwards is possible, but depends on the speed rotation of the wheel."
    This is meant for freestyle. If the above statement is true, it's a guaranteed fail. It will break all the time. Am I missing something here? Nobody rides perfect. Jabs at the pedals will happen, and happen often.

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s okay to be skeptical but I don’t think we should write it off before anyone gets to try it.
      You can’t pedal forward with other coasters without it engaging so this isn’t much different.
