    Just got one. Gonna compare it to my Revolution, Venus, Fiend, and FreeNight.

    I have 2 BSD Revolutions and find their performance to be impressive after trialling various free coasters over the past 3 decades that all shared similar technology to one another. I love the new clutch system Planetary came up with and it's great to see Colony have adopted their tech. Love the RRP you guys have set but wish it also came in polished. Keep them cones tight, boys!

      Thanks mate, glad you're stoked on the hubs.

      Unless I’m mistaken the technology is not by BSD. The research, engineering and development is by Free Knight. BSD adopted the tech just the same.

      @@NeilLB7 Planetary, which I mentioned, IS the Free Night, lol.

    • @NeilLB7
      @NeilLB7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FreeNight (the company name) makes a planetary coaster called “Planetary Coaster”. Named so because it uses a planet gear arrangement in the clutch mechanism. When you wrote “planetary”…I read that as the style of gear arrangement found in the clutch…not a business name. Either way…all good. I hope I like them. Been wanting one for a long time.

    Great video! Also important is to align the clutch's outer "spline" inside the hub shell before inserting the driver.

    Sweet hub, we need a 16 tooth cog ⚙️ to run 44/16 on the older bikes. Would buy it tomorrow if it had a 16 tooth driver.

    I’m building a new 20” which will be my 5th BMX as a 49 year old rider. A planetary has been in my sights for some time. And since Colony did such a good job explaining the hub disassembly…I will order a Colony Swarm and a Colony Wasp front hub for this build. Good job.

    What is the factory lubricant? For
    Future maintenance; should the internals be cleaned up and coated with either a Teflon or silicone dry lube?

    How long do I need spokes to put colony swarm in the rim of GSPORT BIRDCAGE ?

    • @ColonyBMXBrand
      @ColonyBMXBrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When lacing this to our Colony Pintour/Contour rims in 3 cross, we use 182mm spokes on drive side and 184mm non drive side. So it's most likely the same but you might have to compare the rims to see if there is much difference but probably not.

      The o ring needs to grab the axle so the whole clutch unit doesn’t move when you go to pedal forward. I’ve never seen the free knight internals and bsd revolution either so idk about those

    • @nightriderbmxshop6768
      @nightriderbmxshop6768 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It means there is too much friction, so it's OK to use a bit of chain lube. No need to take apart the clutch itself, just remove the driver and spray a little on the clutch.

    I appreciate the video. But there is a major contradiction. One I've seen before. Don't grease it....but it comes with grease. And when you clean it....don't grease it....even though it came with grease. So which is it? Why are there little gobs of grease on there if we're not supposed to clean it? Yes, there can be residual dirty grease after wiping it....so is that supposed to be the plan? Never properly clean it, and let it run with the dirty residual grease? I'm fine with that, if those are the instructions....however, that is not clear.

    • @aurteekay6339
      @aurteekay6339 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a tiny amount of grease on only the pawls and then a dry lubricant on one single piece of the clutch to help with friction which is why it looks like there’s grease on the inside near the clutch it’s dry lubricant like tri Flo and usually only a drop is used

    When the guy says having "Any grease, or too much grease will mess it up". 🤣🤣 Too much grease falls under the same designation as ANY grease. Once you've said "ANY" there is no more need for additional designations like a lot, too much, too little or ANYthing.else because ALL quantities of grease recommended, have already been addressed in the statement "ANY". Its just how English works.
