  • In this video I share my experience with my 2016 Dodge Challenger SXT after 100,000 miles. This is a third generation Challenger that is still produced in 2020.
    -
The oil change shown in this video was performed at 101,974 miles. 6253 miles since the last oil change. Conventional oil used from the beginning.
    -
This car is NOT under a garage or carport when parked.
    -
When getting an alignment make sure they properly torque the rear adjustments otherwise they will work loose and wear out your tires fast!

The internet makes people neurotic perfectionists. "Oh, you need the V12 Z01 Scat pack", but nothing beats a reliable vehicle that makes you personally happy. And being thankful for it, that you even have it. Practice gratitude.

@@MarksTech I drive the 3.6L Challenger, and I've driven the entry V8 Hemi R/T. The only difference is off the line. Also, the Pentastar is a MUCH more reliable and easy to maintain engine. I've seen 3.6L's with 600,000 miles on them. You'll never get that out of a Hemi. You'll be lucky to get 200,000 miles from the V8s. V6 all day man. Seriously.

I have a 2014 Challenger SXT with 90k miles and I’m pretty happy with it myself! I bought it brand new and It’s been surprisingly reliable. I drive it pretty hard and nothing has broken and it rides and feels just like when it was brand new. I do keep up with the service so that’s probably a big factor.

Thanks for the info on the reliability. My wife has been wanting a Challenger for several years. We just pulled the trigger on a new 2020 SXT Blacktop in Hellraisin Purple. She can't get the smile off her face. I have not even got to drive it yet. LOL. A friend at work has a 2015 with 140K miles with zero issues. So hopefully this car will be reliable for us. We did purchase the 7 year 100k B-to-B warranty.

I really appreciate car reviews where the people actually have driven the car. You keep it looking excellent and I am very impressed that a Dodge would go 100K without anything needing to be done. It looks like you made a great purchase! Thank you for providing such great, sincere information about your experience with the car. I am thinking of buying one brand new. However, you convinced me to take a look at used Challengers, even if I feel like it's still a bit of a gamble. I'm going to stay with the v6 engine because it's less expensive and I live in the city, so I do want the better fuel economy.
Although Fiat Chrysler did merge with Peugeot. So, I am kind of wondering what they're planning on doing with the Challenger & the SRT division in the next few years. Great video, thanks again!

2016 Chally - Just had to get lifters/rocker arms replaced. Comparable to the HEMI tick. Set me back 2K. The Pentastar engine has a flaw in its design, so there's a good chance you'll run into that issue as you climb over 100k. Mine happened at 114k miles and I got it repaired before it started eating the Cams. Other than that, my ride has been great. Been having fun modding it for performance and appearance. Definitely recommend taking one for a test drive if you're interested.

The only 2 issues I had and still have with my Challenger (2015) is the track pak option..I pressed the button and nothing would happened..nor could I get the traction control off..so I took the center console apart, unplugged the plugs and when I did that it worked again, so I put some dielectric grease and put it together and its been fine ever since..the other issue is the tranny when cold..seems to slip slightly only from 2nd to third and 4th to fifth..once it warms up its gone and shifts normally...Im not sure but sounds like a solenoid problem, but not sure if this transmission has this set up...

My dodge drives in winter too (up to -26C), so far I had trunk holders replaced as well as front struts leaked twice (replaced twice). Perhaps this car has the worst frontal struts that cannot stand cold temperatures (do you know good aftermarket ones?) Gas-mileage is fantastic (6.9L per 100km on a highway) Great vehicle nonetheless!

Wow, a used rental sports car lasting up till 100k miles, very interesting. Just rented a 2020 Durango with the same engine and the 8 speed (ZF?) transmission. A little heavy but was a great highway cruiser with a smooth powertrain. Was never a fan of FCA products but speaking of powertrain, the 3.6 N/A engine with the 8 spd was pretty solid! Though I would never buy a used vehicle with a rental history, I guess on-time maintenance and a reliable powertrain can go a long way. (though I absolutely hate the flimsiness of FCA interiors)

One problem with buying a used vehicle is that some people drive like maniacs and can wear out everything on the car much faster than normal. So all lot depends on how it was maintained and driven.

I'm on the fence about getting one. I commute about 100miles a day round trip for work. My main concern is longevity. If I were to pick up a used one with a 5yr loan I would put theoretically 100k miles. I keep my vehicles til the wheels fall off. Would I be ok past 100k miles on this v6 platform. I'm also a stickler for maintenance and doing oil and filter changes religiously with full synthetic. All advice is welcome. Thanks

    • @sensiblebabyandreality6804
      @sensiblebabyandreality6804 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Chris
Any vehicle generally speaking, will last a reasonable length of time if maintained extremely well.
The Stellantis ( formerly known as FCA) full size rear wheel and all wheel drive vehicles are very durable and reliable in general.
The 3.6l pentastar, the oil and filter can be changed every 5 000 or so miles, however, on the Hemi v8s, it should be changed every 3 000 miles with synthetic as this will prevent the infamous hemi tick and eventually needing a complete valve train. Although it only affect less than 5 percent of the hemi vehicles.
Another thing you can get is a high volume oil pump to increase the oil flow to the horizontally planed lifters. This oil pump is only available through the aftermarket. Not sure what company it is but investing in a high volume capacity oil pump will increase the durability of these hemis immensely.
Also, if you are buying used hemi vehicles, never buy anything that was used as a fleet vehicle, most particularly police cars.
Aside from that, I would prefer the V6 to the V8, for best all around economy and use. I hope this helps

Thank you for the in depth information. You eased my mind about buying one. I don't see myself buying a hemi but hey money talks. I'm partial to the v6 mostly bc it would be my dd. Could careless about the stigma and the whole why didn't you get a v8 thing. Bc fck you that's why lol. It's what I prefer and it fits my needs.
As far as oil goes I run synthetic. I'm sure there are other cars in that class and price point but looks do play a factor under said reliability. I drive a boring ass mazda right now so anything would be an upgrade really. I know we talked mostly about challengers but I was considering an ecoboost mustang as well again mpg. A friend tried to convert me to the Darkside with vw but I just don't think I can. But I digress. Thanks again

You mentioned the radio replacement was under warranty, are you referring to the Enterprise additional warranty that they offer, or manufacturer warranty? I was told at the time of purchase that the OEM warranty does not transfer to 2nd owners. Just curious. I went with the wheel & tire warranty but not the other one, which was like $80/month.
