Used the Motorola tlk-100 4g lte handheld in the past! just use a cell phone! Old push to talk system, no cell service, no radio also. Analog radio is still King (Free too) great video.
Generally speaking, no different than using a phone, they work in a similar way with a cellular service, SIM card, you can text and make phone calls with them and the run Android operating system with Android apps you can install like you could on your cell phone. But the difference I guess would be if you wanted a dedicated device for cellular push to talk service such as Zello or others and not have your actual phone tied up in the mix of using.
Yeah, our ambulance service uses this type of communications. And I’m not sure the Comlins is proprietary, but very possibles it’s what TID advertises with their newer line of PoC products.
They are cool and easy to is but if you're on a talk group, surely you need to register with a callsign.🤔 Dunno, maybe I missed something but I guess it's great for anything that is not needing critical comms. Probably way cheaper than that RF/4G Rfinder.👍
Not with these, your not sending any signal across Amateur Radio bands in this setup. Now in my future videos I’ll be showing ways to use them that will require the use of your callsign. 😎
Yep, pretty much like Zello in operation, but their software is a more geared toward industry and businesses, which I guess would be more related to zello work. I’m going to be showing some tricks with zello soon with these though😎
That’s correct Steve! No FCC license required out of the box using TID’s applications, my future videos on these jewels will lead to needing a Amateur Radio license 😎
These radios do not work when cell / internet data is down or offline due to a power loss. HOWEVER... they WILL reliably transmit text and voice with almost no bars. I've successfully used them overseas with no visible bars of cell signal. I consider them to be another decent and reliable backup comms option - and thats what being prepared is all about.
Questiin 1. So quick question assuming or nased on if someone new your "Group Name" what stops anyone else from randomly joining or at least attempting to join your group. Question 2. Hello Wayne, 1. You Control the administration of the group. No access unless you give. 2. As I’m not using sims, I can not verify, but generally dual card systems is designed to do just that, fall over to available network. 3. The HT last me 18-24hours 4. $65-$90 as seen on alibaba 5. The same battery life as standby as your not producing RF energy like you would with a traditional two way radio, Radio is only transferring WiFi or cellular data. 6. I did not Time charging time besides putting it on charger overnight, was ready next morning. Does come with two batteries though so you can swap for charged battery. 7. Bands, these are strictly WiFi or cellular. Support 7 different types or Cellular bands, Bluetooth, 2.4G & 5G 802.12 a,b,g,n wireless. Hope this helps, 73
Unfortunately tid-china (not confused with tidradio aimed at individual consumers) sales are aimed at business and organizations rather than individual consumers, therefore they don’t advertise a price on their site, usually in these cases it’s because the price changes depending on the number of units that are purchased. You can contact them through their site and inquire, I have had a viewer state he contacted them and was able to purchase what he wanted through communicating with their sales rep.
That’s a personal choice. I personally prefer to have a dedicated device like this running echolink ,as an example , freeing my phone or watch up for other interest. 🤔
Looking forward to your future videos on these devices.
Thanks, I had ideas, and they worked, that’s when I get excited to show others too!

Appreciate your comment! Oh yeah, legacy (analog) is still great stuff. But these are new toys to play with. 😎
I dont know whats the difference using a cellphone??

Another radio I want to buy! I’m definitely gonna have to get me a couple
Oh yeah, they are a neat novelty for your collection. Just wait till I get my next videos out on these showing them used ham related😎
Very cool system!
It’s a pretty cool system, you can tell it’s a pretty cool system because of the way that it is, it’s cool, and it’s a system, it’s pretty neat.
Very cool! Good demo!
Thanks James!
Looking forward to seeing how these get utilized. Thanks KE0CDU
Thanks Mike, I’ve taken some time to explore some possibilities with these, anxious to show that soon.
I keep waiting for these to be used regularly in public safety. Looks like that comlin app is proprietary to the tide radios though.

Wait, a new video??? Nice!
You never know with me!
Well I’ll be dipped 👀
Dipped you are! Me too!
That's an interesting radio system. I'm curious what you come up with after tinkering with it.
😎 you know I’m going to think up something.
You still use the tidradio poc handheld?

@@K5YVY ah okay, that's good for general use and not needing to be licensed.
I'll be watching for more info. ;)
Interesting. Like a network radio but doesn't rely on Zello

Almost intriguing isn’t it 😎
@@K5YVY yes! Fascinating (in my best Spock voice) 🖖

Do I have to pay for the app? How much per user?
You will have to refer to the vendor. Either at tidradio.com or www.comlins.com/web
Price ?

TID TD-M6 Plus?.
Yes the mobile touch screen version is the TD-M6 Plus 👍
Why wouldn't I use my smartphone or my smartwatch for that? 🤔
