- Sri Lanka and China partnered up to build a brand new City off the coast of the country. China completely funded this incredible project putting up $1.4 Billion Dollars to get the project going, although it will cost much more to complete the entire project. The new city is being build directly on the ocean floor. A massive artificial island is being constructed to support the city. Since the project began in 2014, there have been many delays and tensions rising between the two countries in charge of this massive project. Sri Lanka thought that having the Chinese assist them in creating this massive city would pay off in the end, when in reality china is taking a large portion of the land available for their own personal gain.

Dubais islands are sinking and they are just in a small sea, imagine Sari Lanka in the Indian Ocean that has Tsunamis.
The one which they sold aren't sinking, the one they left to degrade and sink in the ocean are sinking.
Because they’re poorly made. Who tf thought a pile of sand would survive the ocean? They need some sort of erosion resistant shore from rocks or coral or something
It's obvious what Chine is doing, but in a more subtle way than USA did taking Hawaii, Texas, militarily and California from Mexico.

Another main reason for the man main islands in Dubai was to expand the length of total beachs in Dubai from 80-90km to 800km. As the Demand for beachfront property was insanely high

You make the Chinese seem like bad guys but Sri Lanka let them do this. What did they expect when the Chinese investment completely on the port city. And the land isn’t really Sri Lankan because it’s artificial and dredged from the ocean. It’s an island made by Chinese. Really if Sri Lanka gets any of it it would be strange. Considering they didn’t pay for any of its construction.
It’s weird that China is doing this and it’s obvious they want land near strategic locations. I hope China stops thinking they own South China Sea.

I think you don't watch NEWS. Sri Lanka is on verge of Economic collapse, due to that Hambantota project. Inflations rates are very high, due to low forex reserves, they don't have enough money to buy essential commodities. There is a humanitarian Crises going on in Sri Lanka, So do you think, these projects funded by China are creating more negative impact on Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka is literally in the path of world's busiest trade routes
Each year $3 trillion dollars of valued trades go through this region, whoever controls it will have a geopolitical advantage & Americans are also building ports in Indian Ocean to control it.
In India most Coastal Areas in the Southern Areas don't have any High Rises cause the Location is Tsunami occuring areas. It's better to be safe than sorry. Unfortunately it looks like the Government in Sri Lanka completely forgot the Thousand year factor that Sri Lanka sits in a Tsunami prone area. High Rises are better built inland and not in the coasts. Even I wouldn't have some Dubai like Skyscraper in the coasts Considering Climate.
If a Tsunami hits the whole coast line including the city of Colombo will be affected. So unless you build an inland city no where along the coast is safe including the new city and cities along the coast of India.
When this project goes bankrupt someone will be able to buy it up for pennies on the dollar. It is still Sri Lanka sovereignty.

Too early to put a clear answer if it's good or bad. Stating that it only benefits China is quite the contrary, it should help the citizens in Sri Lanka some way, shape or form. Being connected is a good thing, especially the port in the future. In terms of ownership - it's the same as the government owning your land and buying the land is actually being leased for 99 years.
except for the fact it makes you fall into a debt trap which means ownership of the city will be transferred to China eventually
