This is a test of the 125 gr 1.5 Hybrid Broadhead by Sevr.
Here is summary of my 2024 Testing Procedure & Scoring w/the scores of this head posted in parenthesis as well.
1. Flight Forgiveness (20%, 22 pts)
I'm using a Killer Instinct SWAT X1 crossbow, mounted to a BOG tripod, shooting a 670 gr Bishop Archery GOAT bolt (300 fps) at 30 yds. Field points consistently hit in the 10 ring & bullseye. I use the exact same bolt to shoot the broadhead. The only difference in the two shots is the broadhead's flight forgiveness vs that of the field point. A bullseye gets a score of 11/10, or a score of 22. The 10 ring gets a 10/10, or 20 points; a 9 ring gets a 9/10 or 18 points...& so forth, with each wider ring being 1/2" farther from the bullseye. Mechs are also given 1 Bonus Point for extra forgiveness.
2. Cut Size (20%, 16.82 pts)
The more tissue being cut, the more lethal the head, all else equal. The entrance cut, total cut, & width of the cut (a crucial variable for bloodletting) are all scored:
The entrance cut size is compared to a standard of 2.5" then that fraction is weighted to 7% of the score. (1.5"+.7" = 2.2" = 6.16 pts)
The max cut size is compared to a standard of 2.5" as well, then that fraction is is weighted to 7% of the score. (2.2”=6.16 pts)
The max cutting diameter is compared to a standard of 2.0", then that fraction is weighted to 6% of the score. (1.5" = 4.5 pts)
3. Blades (20%, 19.3 pts)
Initial sharpness 9%, 143 grams = 10/10 = 9 pts +.57 bonus = 9.57 pts & Edge Retention (9%, +15 grams = 9.7/10 = 8.73 pts) are measured using the Edge On Up Sharpness Tester. The pressure needed for a blade to cut thru a copolymer wire is measured in grams.
Edge Retention is the loss of sharpness after the head is shot in Penetration Test 1, thru 1/2" MDF & 2/3" rubber foam mat & Clear Ballistics FBI gel. For every 50 "grams" of sharpness lost, 1 point is deducted from 10.
What are some sharpness scores for common edges?
A butter knife takes 2000 grams of pressure to break the co polymer wire.
A new high end cutlery edge: ~ 375 grams of pressure.
A utility razor blade: 200 grams.
Based on the many broadheads I have tested, here is my scoring scale:
Out of the Box Sharpness:
0-200 gr: 10
201-300 gr 9
301-400 gr: 8
401-500 gr: 7
501-600 gr: 6
601-700 gr: 5
Ease to resharpen or replace blades is judged & given 2% of the score. (5/10= 1 pt)
4. Penetration (20%, 16.34 pts)
There are 2 penetration tests:
Pen Test 1: 1/2" MDF, 2/3" rubber foam mat, Clear Ballistics FBI gel. Depth of penetration is compared to a standard of 9" & weighted to 10% of the score. (9" = 10 pts)
Pen Test 2: Layered cardboard. # of layers penetrated is compared to a standard of 70 layers & weighted to 10% of the score. (45 layers= 6.43 pts)
5. Durability (20%, 19.88 pts)
Each head is shot thru 1/2" MDF 3 times. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 12% of the score. (10/10 = 12 pts)
If a head survives that, it is then shot thru 22 ga steel plate twice. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 5% of the score. (9.75/10 = 4.88 pt)
If a head survives that, it is then shot into concrete once. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 3% of the score. (10/10 = 3 pts).
Steel plate & concrete are certainly not "realistic" mediums, but they do reveal the outer limits of a head's durability.
Bonus:
+1 Blades lock open on impact
+1 Blades lock closed for practice
+1 Mechanical flight bonus
-1 Kind of a pain to close the blades
Total Bonus= +2 pts
TOTAL SCORE: 96.34 pts = 10 Golden Arrows

Just commented on your New Tru-Glo video asking you to test the 1.5 Hybrid and, well about 10 minutes later this published! Thanks for what you do. I wanted to see how the bleeders held up. Sevr is the only mechanical I shoot these days. Gonna have to stock up for hunting season this year.
Nice. Thanks for sharing that.
Man I appreciate and respect your testings. Your testings is what pushed me towards sevr’s. Between my son, daughter and myself we harvested a lot of deer last year with our crossbows using sevr’s. Great blood trails. We love them and ill never shoot anything else
That's great to hear. I used them with a crossbow a month ago on hogs and they worked excellently--they fly SOOO well.
Another winner from sevr! Can’t wait to see if they add a hybrid version of the larger cut heads. A hybrid robusto or 2.0 would be amazing for the high energy crossbows!
They're having a hard time making room for that added weight.
@@LuskArcheryAdventuresI could see that at 100 grains but at 125 or 150??
Really hoping they make 150 grain version !!!! I'd buy them instantly
@@devinboyle7800 absolutely
I am looking for a Ti Robusto about 140-150 grains and 2.25 to 2.5 and hybrid is acceptable for a crossbow.
Just a fantastic video. Wow. I really love these videos. Your sevr testing is what changed me over to using sevr
I couldn't be happier. Very tough very lethal heads. Great video.
Great to hear that. Thank you for the comment.
IMPRESSIVE results! Thanks for sharing! 👍
Yep. Thanks for watching and commenting :)
Love it! Great testing, and great results…. 😉👍 I will be giving them a try…
They were impressive.
Thanks John for the great video!
Thanks for watching!
I hope this thing is good as the others love the content John.
Thank you
Great video. Keep up the testing! Every bow hunter should follow this channel
I got so excited when SEVR did their reveal. I've had many successful hunts using them from the 1.5 to the 2.0s. Wild Boars and Axis deer in Hawai'i. I've seen no issues with arrow flight and the damage is crazy. Thank you again for another awesome broadhead review!
You’re welcome. Thank you for the comment. Much appreciated. Good luck.
Thanks for sharing, can't go wrong with sevr!!!
Yep.
Wow very impressive John!!! Cannot argue with those results!
Yep. I was impressed as well.
Impressive! What a game changer! Definitely going to try these out

@@LuskArcheryAdventures thank you so much. Already have and they will be here tomorrow
That’s just yet another awesome head from Sevr!!
Yep.
Can’t wait to try them!
:)
You just made my day… once again! 😂 I’M ordering these as soon as I can to add to my Hyde’s that I also ordered thanks to you, In our previous correspondence I said I love the Sevrs performance but just not comfortable with a 2 blade after years of 2 blade sub performance IMO over many years of use with my traditional bows, next thing I know, SUPRISE, here is Sevr with a 4 blade, that makes them near perfect in an imperfect world! Once again, thanks so much for your channel! God Bless! 😃
Nice. Thanks for the comment. Good luck!
Glad to hear that. Thank you for sharing that. Good luck.
Ooooh these looks real nice!
I will say, I had a little wing of my 2.0 break off inside of a Rinehart 18-1 broadhead target when it caught the nylon rope handle inside the foam. Sevr sent me a replacement broadhead no questions asked. Also, Rinehart sent me a new target for it too! Both stand-up companies.
Wow Rinehart sent you a new target just because the rope got cut?
@@greekmaster1001 no I hit the tag end inside the target. They said they try to design it so you never catch the nylon with an arrow. They also made the good point that it shouldn’t be shot at now with a piece of steel stuck inside
Man, I hate those rope handles and connection point on that target.
John, I’ve been a big fan of Sevr ever since you introduced them to me a couple years back I believe it was
I started with the Robusto, which I still use, I have the 2 inch 100 grain titanium and now it looks like I’m going to have to start looking at these
Excellent job on the review as usual!
Thank you for watching and the comment. Good luck and continued success.
I’ve stayed away from mechanicals since I started hunting 25 years ago. I gave the 1.5 a try last season on a doe and I was very pleased with the results.
Good to hear.
That's a good broadhead. Great video
Yep. Thanks
Just bought a 3 pack, thanks for the testing and the 5% off
Nice! Good luck
Dang you Sevr! Nice head to add to my Sevr stash.
:)
Ok, watched your review and now have 3 on the way! The first thing I check when I see an interesting broadhead, if if you've done a review on it and how did it do? Thanks for the great information.
Glad to hear that. Thanks for watching!
Slow down sir the deep breath’s are very loud .
That drove me crazy. It was because of the position of the mic. I had it at -10 but it was too sensitive still because it was too close to me.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures I wasn’t being mean atleast that was not my intention
I think he heard my hard breathing, big upgrade.
I had a one shot harvest on a P&Y muledeer last year at 106yds using the 1.75” and getting a full pass threw 👍
Sevr never disappoints
That's awesome 👌
Indeed
Yep!
I like made in USA, the quality of materials, and the results with the Ti- 125. Price and package is very good also.I suspect the negative posts are trolls or competitors. Besides, if you list that many bulls, maybe you shouldn't be using archery equipment at all! Thanks for the testing!
Thanks for the comment.
One of the best of all-time!!! Enough said.

Yes. Impressive.
Well, I would say I was surprised, butttttt it’s Sevr. 👊🏻
:)
Great improvement adding the bleeder blades. Now if SEVR will do that with the 1.75...I'm buying!
Yeah, that would be nice. They are having a hard time allowing for the weight with the longer heads.

@@JohnLuskOutdoors why my comment missing
Hey man thanks for your great reviews. After being inspired by your videos I decided to use the sevr 1.5 on a nice bull moose in northern Ontario last year. I’m heading back up this year. After your testing would you lean towards these new hybrids instead of the 1.5s for a large animal like a moose?
Good question. It largely depends on your set up and shot distance. It takes more oomph to drive it deeply. If your goal is maximum penetration, the 1.5 is best. If you have plenty of momentum, then the 1.5 Hybrid would be great.
Thanks. The last moose was a 51” I hit him with my compound at 20yds and 50yds. Dropped in front of my eyes within 30 seconds. Neither shot passed through but lodged in the hide on his opposite side.
Only issue I've ever had with sevr (have taken multiple big game with them, pronghorn, elk and mule deer) is they seem to put less blood on the ground than other comparable size heads. This fixes that one problem for sure!
I found that they swing over and or close up while inside the cavity then open back up when they exit. That’s why sometimes you don’t see slot of blood.
I’ve really not seen that as an issue. I’ve heard people say that, but I’ve taken about 30 animals with them. It is much more of a function of shot placement than anything else. I’ve had some of my shots produce a downright bloodbath. And I’ve had others be a lot more of a trickle. But it all depends on whether clip an artery or not. Even with a seemingly good shot, if you do not cut an artery, you will not get the same amount of blood. Or if you hit a little bit high in the lungs, you will not get as much blood.
Fantastic mechanical, I would love to use them its a shame I can't get them shipped to Australia
Sorry about that.
Awesome test. Unrelated, but would you ever use a beast 2.3 on a Whitetail? Or is that too big of a cut
lol yes
I would, out of my set up. But I’d be more comfortable with the 2.0 for larger Whitetail bucks, especially out of a tree stand.
I just ordered a couple of them.
Nice. Good luck.
Looks like a great Broadhead. Don’t like bleeders but I would try it if they made it in the 1.75”!! That’s what I shoot now and I love them!!
Love the 1.75s as well.
Ugh, I literally just got all new 1.5s a few weeks ago for this year’s elk season lol.
Those are excellent heads as well. I’ve taken a lot of animals with them. They are the best penetrating of all of the Sevr heads.
I’m curious should I try the reg 1.5 or these for Elk this year?
i think you did the right thing.
What an awesome head. Just a little extra insurance on an already great design.
Yep. That’s a great summary.
Wow these performed very well! How do you think they compare to the evolution outdoors hyde?
I'm thinking EO will make a bigger hole, Sevr may fly more accurately and do better Angling. Both will blow through deer. Gotta take a pick on what you want haha. I'm indecisive myself.
@@trevorslifka7449not a bigger entry hole
Sevr definitely make a much larger entry hole, due to the rear deploying blades. And they have less exposed blade in flight. Let me sad, I also like those Hyde heads. They are very good as well.
Since the ironwill 100 grain wide is new and unlike a lot of broadheads could you do a test on that head?
I just tested the 125 grain iron will wide. It is posting this coming Monday. July 1, 2024.
So as far as the “lock open” part do they collapse forward when you pull it backwards? In my state the blade have to fold forward to not be considered “barbed” and thereby legal to hunt with.
Yes. They are not barbed, just like every Sevr head, if you are familiar with them.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures ok great! I appreciate the response!
John, curious why the 6 “edges” of the tip didn’t count towards the total cut? You’ve included these on another BH before, I believe maybe the DeadX Bloodflow?
I know. Nice observation. It’s because they weren’t as pronounced as the BloodFlow; they were much smaller. And 4 of them were already in the same plane as the main blades or the leading blades.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures gotcha, thanks. I believe only 2 of the 6 could be in plane with either the main blades or the bleeder blades. But doesn’t matter anyways since they’re not counted.
Oh wow, I was just thinking my the other day how awesome it would be if they had a small bleeder. I hope they make this in the 1.75”.
Nice. We’ll see in the days ahead. They’re having a hard time make up for the extra weight with the longer models.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures A little more weight would just make FOC even better. I’d actually love to see a super beefy 200 grain titanium version with even thicker blades, and a ferrule larger than the arrow diameter to reduce friction on the arrow shaft. Not that their heads don’t seem durable as they obviously are from your tests, but err on the side of caution and make amazing even better. Keep up the great work John. I always look forward to seeing a notification that a new test has been done. I’m waiting to see the slick trick 150s.
John, do you think this head might replace the standard 1.5 in your quiver? I know you probably haven’t had time to try them yet.
It depends on what I’m hunting. For deer sized game, yep. For much larger animals I like the penetration of the 1.5.
Iron will came out with the wide single bevel in 100 and 125 grain if you could test them soon. I’m wondering if them cutting the weight effect the durability.
All done. It's posting Monday, July 1, at 11:00am
John do you have easy access to a 60y range? It would be interesting to see downrage velocity, using a lab radar to get velocity, then add that to the comparison, you should be able to quantify drag in a way doing that were we can see how each broadhead effects downrange velocity.
It's not perfect since you would have to normalize for atmospheric conditions, but might be good enough.
Yeah, that just is much too involved and time-consuming for me to do, with 60 or 70 tests a year. Perhaps when I retire, I can do that kind of testing.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures understandable
I have a Excalibur mag 340 crossbow will these work with that crossbow? Thank you in advanced John!
Definitely will buddy!
Absolutely. The flight test in my video was out of a crossbow. All Sevrs are some of the most forgiving heads in flight-including these.
did you leave the bleeders in place for the initial accuracy test against the field point or did you remove them?
Why would he remove them?
I did not remove them...they fly extremely well with those extra blades.
hopefully they make the option for no pivot on the blades.
I don’t think they will. That’s part of the design and what makes them unique. I’ve only had it proved quite lethal for me, after shooting a lot of animals with it. And the extra bleeder makes up for anything lost by the blade that pivots closed. I recently used the 1.74 in Argentina. They made a great initial hole, and pivoted well after one blade cut through the rib and the other swung closed, then pivoted back open immediately after that and stuck out the far side. I was impressed by how quickly they pivoted back open and also for the cut of the rib while one blade was open and one was closed.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures
They work for sure I have around 12 or 13 animals with them and wife 7 deer. And over half had the small exit hole where one blade was close hitting rib. Makes for less blood. Love the toughness of them and how well they are made. Since they went hybrid I'd hope they were going to start to make other small options and changes. Like add no pivot option. I personally don't need the pivot to help with penetration on my bow specs, but like it for the wife and her specs. I didn't think sevr would go part fixed head since they were unique with no fixed heads. They are working their way to a fixed head so I'm hoping they will work their way to none pivot blade option but keep the option to pivot for ppl that want that option.
Ya I’m with you. I found the blades wouldn’t open back up sometimes while traveling through the cavity.
Is there any added noise in flight vs the 1.5’s?
I did not notice any; like I shared in the video, those blades are the same length as the deployment arms, and in the same area. So turbulence is already created by those deployment arms.
John, this is off topic from the post, but not sure where else to ask.....What is the address/PO Box number to send heads for testing? I would like to send a set of heads to you for testing.
The address to send them is 2502, Sun Grove Road, Melissa TX 75454, United States. Thank you
Kinda off topic Mr Lusk. I was wondering for you North America Hunting your bow and arrow set up? Bow Draw weight, length and Arrow length and weight?
For my compound, the total arrow weight is around 500 gr. Draw weight is 68 lbs and draw length is 27”. Arrow length is 26.5”.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures Thank you sir. About what I am using also. 460gr, draw weight 63lbs draw length 27 1/2 and arrows are 27in. Thank you for responding. I love your videos. Last yr I shot big 10 and I was using the Maxone 100gr. For inexpensive broadheads they work wonderful and you did a good review on them. Thanks again.

Yep. Feel free to use my Discount Code to save some $ as well
Hope they do this to the 2.0 also
Yeah, but it’s hard for them to make up for the weight of the extra blade.
Like I said, the weight is the biggest challenge.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures hey 125 grain or 150 grain would be fine with me. And most guys would probably use it as a crossbow head so the extra weight wouldn’t effect them that much either
Impressive. If they made a version without orings that would be sweet.
The O rings do not hurt the usability at all.
As much as those O rings can be a pain at times,, I do find they are the most reliable way to secure the blades and have them open so quickly on impact. Rear deploy blades often have challenges, when they are not using those kind of rings.
orings are the most reliable, no nonsense, cheapest, most abundant, easily obtainable, and easily replicable way to keep heads closed. and you dont have to replace tiny internal parts that can only be ordered from the manufacturer. simple orings are a HUGE bonus to most hunters. i hate when companies try to fix non-broken things that are simple and perfect with unnecessary complications.
You are not pushing straight down on the edge for sharpness testing. You are slicing at an angle which skews results. A slice will always read lower than a straight push.
How many braodhead tests have you done?
I try really hard to be consistent. Sometimes due to the angle of the blade that happens.
As an audio engineer, the "huh" after everything you said in the beginning drives me crazy
I know!!! I had the mic at -10, but as I was doing this test, and was looking downward to the broadhead, it was too close to my mouth. It bugged me as well, but was too late to re do it. Sorry!
All good brother, love the channel. Long time follower. Keep up the great work!
I only wish it were single bevel across the blades. Might be about perfect for me then.
Why do you think that? There wouldn't be any rotation with those those sized blades, and they are about as sharp as blades come already.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures if all four blades are single bevel it wouldn’t rotate?
I'd buy it.
Yep. Me too. And still a good price, especially with my discount code.
Mr John are you alright because the way you was having to catch your breath it reminded me of my preacher god bless I hope you are alright

@@LuskArcheryAdventures I have a dozen of the Robusto. Amazing head. I just wish this hybrid offering was 150gn aswell.
They should make the whole tip a small single bevel.
What is your thought on what that would accomplish?
@LuskArcheryAdventures honestly I have no idea. Maybe best of both worlds. Bevel the mechanical blades too. Do not know until you try.
Tip looks blunted to begin with.
Yeah. It’s for durability.
I have a hard time believing Eastons claims that adding the bleeder blades doesn't matter for flight because the other blades are already there.
Well, they sure did fly great for me. Just just like the other heads.
@LuskArcheryAdventures flies great sure, but there has to be added drag, there's more surface area.
Two different issues.
100% correct, i couldn't believe a broadhead manufacturer would expect us to believe that non-sense, we all know for a fact that more exposed blade equals more surface area/drag in flight.

adding a tiny bleeder just seems like a a gimmick, why wouldn't one just go with the 1.75" if they wanted a little more cut than the 1.5" ? more exposed surface area in flight is NEVER a good thing.
Well they fly exceptionally well. Did you watch the video? The longer the blades, the longer the head. They have a hard time adding the weight to the 1.75s. That’s why they’re only in 1.5 and only at 125 grs.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures yes i watched the whole video, we all know for a fact that having more exposed surface area in a broadhead is not ideal. i have never seen a difference in flight from using a shorter head vs a longer head of the same weight. but i have seen more surface area heads mess with flight like everyone has. this one is still small enough to fly well, but we all know that the original without the added bleeder will fly better over long distance and in wind. there is no way to deny that fact.
Really think they missed the boat on this one. It could of been a COC, however they just added a blade🤦♂️
Did you see the performance? Best score of over 300 different broadheads. Hard to say they missed the boat.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures yeah I watched it. I’ve been waiting for them to come out with a COC hybrid. I think penetration would be much better if that blade was the leading edge similar to the Evolution, or the Tricecta designs.

well you sure can't blame the head for your loss.
Sever got a good high score the 1.75 and from what I’m hearing they don’t perform well on animals
The 1.75 has performed extremely well for me in the field--taken multiple hogs and even a nice Red Stag with it. Made great holes and flies like a dart. You can see the vids here on my channel.
Shot placement is key with any broadhead.
Who cares what you are hearing. If you don't have first-hand experience its worthless hearsay.
