    After the BotW/TotK map, which was mainly focused around the wilderness and and ruins of a post-apocalyptics world, I think the best way Nintendo could distinguish the next iteration of Hyrule would be by focusing on settlements. Towns and cities everywhere, some returning and some completely new. I think that would be a great starting point for providing a fresh experience

    Not a town or village, but I could see Zelda heading up a memorial park project for the sages she fight alongside way in the past.

      I would also dedicate said park to the first king and queen of New Hyrule who's short-lived rule was marked by tragedy and thus deserve a memorial of sort to honor their legacy (the kingdom itself).

    I think the spot where Serenne stable used to be, right next to the canyon, would be absolutely excellent for a village or Hateno-sized town.
    There‘s LOTS of space for farming and construction, it‘s relatively protected in a very empty area, has a major road (especially useful if the tabantha ruins village is ever rebuilt), and is easily reachable by air from Rito village.
    Plus, the area is gorgeous, and the long path would be much easier to travel for merchants than the standard rocky route, especially with a village or two on the way.

    • @AzurePip
      @AzurePip 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I was about to suggest the same idea. The area around Salari Plain, Irch Plain, and Rowan Plain is perfectly suitable for an agricultural village. There are several wells around the area in TotK, so they have safe access to water. I think a new stable could be built where Serenne Stable was in BotW and maybe even rebuild the Maritta Exchange center (as along as the Gloom Hands are no longer a fatal hassle to contend with now that Ganondorf has been defeated).

    Honestly, I'd have the Lake Hylia Town actually be a Zora location like in the past. Of course meaning, underwater. The fact the Zora don't have a location underwater is a bit disappointing. I get why (you'd have to allow underwater exploration) but it is still disappointing. I think each of the races should have at least 1 smaller settlement each. Maybe with their own Forts or bases as well.

    1. they really should have included a few more new towns in _TOTK…_ Lookout Landing was the only new one, right? maybe they could’ve put two or three more around central Hyrule, to contrast how barren and dangerous it was in _BOTW…_
    2. what if instead of helping Addison simply post his signs, you’d actually help him construct a building? and the reward for helping him is more than some rupees or food, it’s also a cabin with a bed and cooking pot you can use… or maybe as you progress through the game, you help him build out more and more buildings each time 🤷🏻‍♂️

      It's funny how Zelda didn't take advantage of that 6 year timegap to send messengers and emissaries to lands _outside_ Hyrule in order to request assistance in rebuilding the kingdom. By the time TotK happened the ENTIRE kingdom could have been fully revived as many new races and NPCs populate the newly founded settlements.

    Honestly, a Zelda building simulator using both BotW and TotK maps with the various house models available to us from both games would be phenomenal.
    Nintendo could use this as a chance to show us what they intended Hyrule to look like just before the Great Calamity. A full and pristine Castle, Castle Town, the Great Plateau walls, Akkala Citadel, and various existing houses, settlements, bridges, and military outposts.
    Plus a seamless change to TotK’s map similar to Mario Maker between Mario 1/3/World, etc would give us a look at what has changed and why/how.

  • @AzurePip
    @AzurePip 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I think a possible settlement around Fural Plain (south of the Faron Woods by the Highland Stable) and the nearby Guchini Plain would be possible. The climate, while rainy at times, would be perfectly suitable for a settlement. The land is fertile for growing crops, the nearby lakes and ponds could serve as an access to water, and the nearby road leading through the forest could serve as a means of travel and transportation to and from central Hyrule via the Bridge of Hylia for both settlers and merchants alike.

  • @OliviaWood14

    If sea exploration was becoming a thing, Cape Cales would be a good place for a lighthouse. Also, during peace time engineers/inventors could focus on improving transport instead, so maybe something like a chair lift or a simpler drag lift for shield-boarding for Kilsie Village and a gondola-like contraption that would connect Cape Cales lighthouse with ports for oversea travel at Lurelin Village and/or Hateno Village. Also, Typhlo town could go in the direction of many historical tourist spots (currently mainly thinking of Japanese examples): a museum, a big hotel/inn or maybe several small ones, souvenir shops and a cafe, as well as research premises

    I'm not sure that typhlo ruins themselves would make a good place for a permanent settlement, the mud lake surrounding it looks like the place could flood pretty badly under heavy rain, but a come-and-go research base sounds likely.

    Things I’d like to see in general for the Zelda series (sorry it not only covers the topic of your video but also goes beyond)
    1. An Atlantis type town for the Zora (still didn’t get more swimming like exploration)
    2. A game that combines all the best elements from Zelda games…a great sea to explore, a hallow earth-like depths, evil dark mirror world…a triple time travel component that goes far into the past and future…oh yeah add the sky also and natural disasters…earthquakes…tornados…tsunamis…hell just make a whole planet hyrule… put the different biomes vastly far from each other
    Haha…i know this comment is way out of pocket…i was inspired by your creativity.

    My (quick and not at all in-depth) thoughts on the subject, before TotK even came out, were that I could imagine each of the stables locations being prime locations for the first new settlements in a rebuilt kingdom. They're convenient locations on what became the relatively safe trade and travel routes for post-calamity Hyrule. While the threat of the calamity was still hanging over them most people stayed in retreat in their few secure locations that we saw as the main settlements in BotW, and stables were a necessary risk to keep some semblance of a connection with the other settlements. But with that threat lifted they'd be free to get a lot more relaxed and to spread out from those strongholds. I'd see the next step from there being for people to build up new villages at the stables locations. Setting down roots there before diving into restoration projects of any old ruins locations or going anywhere too far off the paths they'd grown used to using. Even efforts to clean up Castle Town / Hyrule Castle would likely want to have a closer settlement to stage their operations out of instead of just working out of any of the secluded settlements. (Which is exactly the kind of location TotK did add by adding Lookout Landing.)

    I think you have a bright future as a city planner. Each idea was wonderful! For my own ideas, one is inspired by living in the Pacific Northwest, and I could see a small town taking shape in the North Akkala Foothills, expanding towards Bloodleaf Lake and probably even down to the Spring of Power. It's rainy and hilly, but very scenic and lush for a settlement.
    Another spot I think would be nice is on Koukot Plateau north of Gerudo Canyon. Because the old road is now a river, it would be ideal for a small village to build on the plateau and have maybe a stairway carved into the mountainside leading down to the river.

    • @tossingturnips
      @tossingturnips 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, and about the settlement on the Tingle islands: they'd have to build some more sturdy-looking bridges, especially when connecting to the northernmost island. My vertigo acted up running down that rickety ramp that was about 100 feet lower than the island before it.

    Hear you on this. One of my favorite quests TotK was the recovery of Lurein Village. And like to be more beach or river towns seeing more boat activity, and Lake Hylia Town sounds like the Lake Town in desolation of Smaug. However, this village or town... Port that's it! A port on Eventide Island. Get nautical side Hyrule. Still a little hurt there is no underwater exploration, but as the survey team can do might as well find more islands or a neighboring continent.

    One thing I’d really love to see in the next Zelda game would be a Termina like town from Majora’s mask. A big, populated town with different kinds of shops and places to eat. Almost like a market town that link could buy weapons and items at, and if that’s too easy then the player could work to get to certain shops (like the Gerudo secret shop/club.) More people = More quests to prolong the game.

    I LOVE the idea of a Zelda game with a list of settlements in the double digits. OoT’s civil war, Clock Town’s slow motion evacuation, TP’s clear decline and BotW’s past Calamity; too many Zelda games take place in a dead or dying world, it’s time to journey through a flourishing kingdom.
    As for mixed race settlements; maybe as Link solves the problems facing Hyrule’s various tribes the members of those races travel, join and establish new villages. Maybe Link-and by extension, the player-could be the reason for the kingdom’s boom in the first place.

    I would like to see new settlements built by some of the non-Hylian tribes. The Tingle Islands would be a great place for Rito to settle if they want to fish the coast. Maybe the Goron build a mine inside one of the Hebra mountains that is volcanic inside, and maybe the Gerudo start a pirate faction somewhere along the coast.

    I wouldn't mind if the next game takes place a few hundred years after TotK in the same Hyrule, but this time everything would be fully rebuilt, Hyrule would be thriving and we would have a new Link & Zelda, maybe even a reborn good Ganondorf and a new villain. Hyrule Warriors Legends gave us new villains which proves that Zelda could do better with a new villain instead of Ganondorf

    Not an idea for a future game, but more of a missed opportunity in this one: The Depths should have had villages. In A Link to the Past, the Dark World equivalent of Kakariko Village was the Village of Outcasts, and that's what I would have liked to see in the Depths. Instead of a mine being directly below every overworld town, there could be a rundown village populated with the descendants of various races who, similar to the Yiga, were cast out of their respective overworld tribes for refusing to swear loyalty to the King of Hyrule.
    The outcasts populating the villages could have easily been loosely based on enemies from previous Zelda games, like for example, the outcasts of the Rito tribe could be a re-imagining of the Fokka enemies from Adventure of Link.
    Just a thought 😁

    @kiwilemontea4622 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think the Rito should make some settlements in the sky islands, the Zora should expand into Lake Hylia and along the coast, the Gerudo need to ex (re-expand?) Gerudo Town into other parts of the desert, the Gorons need to get Gorondia populated again, and of course, Hyrule Field should be dotted with farms and merchants once more.

    Honestly I'd want one more sequel to TOTK but have it be the reverse of breath of the wild. Where civilization has taken back over and there are fewer monsters, maybe monster dens etc. To show the progression from breath where it was basically apocalyptic, tears where it was the recovery, and then the next one where they've brought it back. Since there are less enemies they would have to rebalance the economy system and rework the combat but I would love. One final zelda game in this version of hyrule with THIS Zelda and Link.

    I miss Ordon Village 🥲

    • @MuljoStpho
      @MuljoStpho 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmm, if that could be placed on the BotW/TotK map... Well, TP's Faron Bridge and BotW/TotK's Bridge of Hylia would have to be the same bridge (so what seemed like a simple canyon in TP was actually a massive lake), placing Ordon Village... perhaps at the same location as Highland Stable? Also in this analysis, I suppose we'd end up with TP's Forest Temple being the same location as BotW/TotK's Eastern Abbey (aka OoT's Hyrule Castle.)
      Of course, map comparisons have their flaws. TP's Zora's Domain and Death Mountain are wrong compared to BotW/TotK. TP's Zora's Domain is directly north of the palace, which would put it around BotW/TotK's Great Hyrule Forest and/or Thyphlo Ruins. And TP's Death Mountain is directly east of the palace, which would put it around BotW/TotK's Zora's Domain. Also, TP's Lake Hylia is placed where BotW/TotK has the Ancient Tree Stump near Mount Daphnes. And TP's Arbiter's Grounds would be somewhere around BotW/TotK's Rayne Highlands / Ancient Columns while TP's scorching Gerudo Desert would be BotW/TotK's frozen Gerudo Highlands. Snowpeak and Hebra are consistent with each other at least.

    The idea for Lake Hylia Town gives me Queensferry vibes, except it's a lake and not the river forth. You could even label it similarly as North Lake Hylia Town and South Lake Hylia Town. No idea where abouts in Scotland you are but I wonder if Queensferry inspired you there.

    • @MuljoStpho
      @MuljoStpho 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unless I'm mistaken it actually wouldn't be a new concept within the Zelda franchise. In AoL, the location it called Saria Town was (if I recall correctly) two towns on opposite sides of a bridge. From what I remember it was three screens to get through. Town -> bridge -> town. It (or one side of it at least) was a rundown monster-infested town that you go through if you want to reach the Death Mountain Area cave network that leads through to the tiny blurb of map tiles tucked into the southwest corner of AoL's map that represent LoZ's entire map.
