Which mysterious ruin in Hyrule fascinates you the most? 🤔
My favorite is Gaponga Village ruins
not much of a mystery, but i find this to be so cool. in “creating a champion” on page 394, it talks about mabe village ruins (and to those who don’t know, it’s the village from LA). it says “watching this town disappear in a flash of light from across hyrule field must have made it seem like a fleeting dream”. that’s so cool.

I think the wagons were actually people fleeing from the calamity but were killed by monsters, we don't see them in AoC but they are there in BotW
Or had to Flee and leave their stuff behind on the way

Could have been people who were traveling when the calamity happened and abandoned their cart
All of the unnamed small ruin pieces in Gerudo desert! Sometimes think about stuff like ruins in desert areas and the possibility of them being hints of a really beeg ancient kingdom

I really enjoyed playing Hyrule Warriors Calamity to see some of these ruins in their original form. One of the ruins I’m glad you mentioned, the circuit near Hateno was in that Hyrule Warriors game. They appeared to be some kind of outpost.
It’s really amazing the amount of depth and detail Nintendo put into this version of Hyrule and even more so with TOTK.
I always thought the Hateno ruins were simply the original Hateno Village, and that they relocated the village higher up the hill. Lately, I have begun to think that they could've been a Hateno garrison.
I find the depths very interesting. The mines, coliseum, labyrinths. But I really wish they had done more to show how the depths were once a distinct civilization. Like, you could have helped Robbie find old ruins and artifacts. Much like you do with the ring ruins.
There is a small ruin on Death Mountain's east side. Almost directly west of the Spring of Power and east of the Momosik Shrine. It's not very big, but the fact it is so remote was interesting to me.
I can definitely imagine the Hateno Circuit originally being used for military and horseback training, given the multiple ruins scattered around the area. Not to mention, you could earn a Korok seed by breaking all of the targets around the track in BotW, adding even more evidence and credit towards its possible horseback and/or archery purpose(s).
In terms of how these ruins came to be, Creating A Champion explains it was due to a lack of funds, resources, and knowledge. Since many of those skilled in stonemasonry were wiped out during the Great Calamity, along with the knowledge of how to repair stone structures, the people of Hyrule (especially the survivors in Hateno) had to prioritize rebuilding their lives rather than attempting to rebuild or restore structures that were falling apart.

I didn’t miss those ruins. I’ve been deliberately avoiding them because the last set of abandoned ruins I stumbled through got me chased by the slurping nightmare known as Gloom Spawn!

I genuinely liked this video, and appreciate the sentiment with which you approached this. We used to call this the 'Atlantis' or 'King Arthur' factor of lore. The concept that this was built... was part of many people's every day lives, first kisses, etc; but that the location might contain secrets of an arcane nature is just fantastic. Things are not just OBJECTS, they're history, and containers of time and experience. When a game can capture that it's absolutely wonderful.
That hamlet on the side of Death Mountain with the Fire Wizrobe. I forgot to check that place out in TotK.

I am loving this series! If you can find more unmarked ruins to continue with, I would love it if you did. The little corners of Hyrule that don't get much attention deserve some love.
I imagine another use, in addition to the possible trading hub, for the Hateno Circuit. Considering the targets around the circuit and the stonework that indicates it could have been for military use, I think it may have also been a mounted archery training area.

I think that the wooden structures that are attached to any settlement are like cabins in the woods that people built and left behind for others to use and keep up and stocked for anyone to use on their travels. No one owns them they’re just for public use

I do wish they had some npcs or showed some rebuilding in the ruins. It would send a clearer message that totk is no longer a desolate Eastland disrupted by the calamity, but a hurdle that’s really rebuilding

You know, Aonuma has been pretty adamant in interviews that the team is done with the BotW/TotK setting, but they're really leaving a lot of potential on the table.
For instance, how cool would it be to have a spin-off game centered on rebuilding the kingdom?
Core game play could be based on a new iteration of the Purah Pad with a combination of both Shiekah and Zonai tech.
The engine already has basic versions of all the needed systems for custom buildings, farming, mining and other forms of resource gathering.
Hateno could be the hub for acquiring tools, seeds, and tech.
There could still be some combat since I imagine some monsters may still be around and the Yiga Clan could still be an issue.
Maybe the main playable character(s) could be Hudson (Construction) with other characters being recruitable for specific missions like Soldiers and Knights for monster control and farmers and scientists for development.
Damn, I think I just hyped my self up for an imaginary game. :P
Funny you should mention how fun riding through the Hateno circuit is. Back in BOTW the circuit was part of a horse back archery challenge.

There is a sign at the entrance of "Hateno Circuit" which calls it something like "old equestrian center". I don't know what the exact English translation is in the game.
These ruins are a different style from the usual Hylian stone buildings we find all over Hyrule. They seem much older. There are only a few spots where we can find these types of ruins which are: the Firly Plateau, the old equestrian center, Eventide Island, Samasa Plain, the Forest of Spirits, Ash Swamp, Robred Dropoff, the Lost Woods and the Ranch Ruins.
With the exception of the last one, I think all the buildings in these locations were already in ruins before the Calamity 100 years ago. Because unlike in the other styles of ruined buildings, and the Ranch Ruins, we can't find any remnants of furniture or anything to indicate that people used to live here in a recent past.
Something you missed about the Samasa Plain ruins is that it was built around the Sheikah Shrine that stood where we now find the monster camp.
I just came across your first location today while heading for the coast. I briefly thought about it being tucked beside the top of a hill with a nice view of Hateno across the way and the road running below the hill.
Thank you for being maybe the only Zelda creator who hasn’t abandoned ToTK and is putting out amazing content about it
You know, this is basically how archeologists reason their finds, contextualizing with surrounding sites, with known history of the area, and of course looking at the nature of the findings!
I've been wondering why nobody tried to invade Hyrule during the 100 year lull between the Great Calamity and Link defeating Calamity Ganon, but to be honest, the evil permeating the land might have kept the visitors and conquerors at bay. Ganondorf, especially, is so hooked on Hyrule being HIS LAND that I just imagine a round ball of the Earth with this one square area of map that is a no-travel zone that everyone avoids, because Here Be Demons (And Dragons). XD
I will be getting TotK later today so I will come back to this video later today or possibly tomorrow and edit this comment to add my choice though before actually playing TotK the various ruins in the Depths do fascinate me.

4:15 the stone nature of this ruins had me curious, now I’m thinking if perhaps, these ruins are older than the great calamity?
Just a thought, I’m really enjoying these videos as it presents the information, then allows us viewers to draw our own theories and ideas of what happened, and then discuss them with one another. I’m hoping that with the “burnout” as of late in totk theory crafting, perhaps we could do this instead.

10:17 perhaps you didn't check properly but these ruins are actually named in ToTK. Don't remember the actual name but it was something related to horses. You need to read the sign on the fork on the road to Hateno Village.

The Hylian ruins northeast of Death Mountain! There's two but its easier to check out in botw, both in game and map-wise. No one talks about them and I wonder why the Hylians built them in such a strange place. Why did Death Mountain need that guard tower?
The hateno ruins may have been abandoned even before the calamity. It is basicly a bowl and they may have been flooded out.
You can also find similar ruins near the fort Hateno, the Great Plateu, the West side of Death Mountain and at the entrance of the Lost foods. I tryed to find out what the symbol on the columns is, it seems like a trident. Happy new year anyway💜!

This is why I would have been so happy to see a third game set in the same version of Hyrule, with a fully restored kingdom. How amazing would it have been to wander around little rebuilt villages and outposts like this?

i was just thinking, perhaps you could go back and check ''Age of Calamity'' as the Ruins were all up and together at that point before The Calamity attacked!! and compare each Ruin? just a thought!

Now that I have finished the story, completed all the shrines, discovered all the caves and well, found all the armor and paraglider fabrics, and completed the compendium 100%, I can now fully explore this wonderful overworld of Tears of the Kingdom. Love this overworld as much as I did in Breath of the Wild. Maybe even more now since the additions of the sky and depths. I can't wait to see what the next overworld will be like in the next Zelda game. I just hope it is as varied as both BOTW & TOTK. 🎮💙

Theory: The Sheikah technology was abolished after Zelda informed Rauru of the series of events that unfolded prior to TOTK, hence why the Sheikah technology was nowhere to be found in TOTK, and why the divine beasts are absent. The blood moon has no effect on the resurrection of the Zonai construct, they applied their new technology, from their mistakes.
